With winter approaching, I'm trying to decide if a drycharger (cover for the air filter) is needed for the BWoody CAI. We'll get a couple of big snow/ice storms here in central ohio each year.
Any opinions out there?

I use mine year round for the little added insurance.

It would be a good idea, absolutely.

I have used a cold air intake with out anytime type of sock like the drycharger on past cars and I have had no problem and the the car was lower to the ground too in the winter. Trust me if you hit a puddle that is deep enough then now even the dry charger will help you and you will Hydro lock the motor. There are numerous posts on here of people hydro locking there engines even when they had the drycharger ON and it did not save their engine. Just have to be a cautious and responsible driver when using a Bwoody CAI, if you are not that type of person then this CAI is not for you.

Any idea how much moisture will ruin the motor ? I just put on a mopar cai and drove through a snow storm, stopped and opened the hood to see it and there was some snow on the filter.. hoping by the time it soaked in and entered the tube it vaporized... I am looking to get a sock for it, but don't have one just yet.

Snow will not Hydroock your motor, but submerging your filter in water will Hydro lock your motor. With a Mopar CAI I would not worry about it. The guys that have to worry are the guys running a 4" Bwoody CAI, which goes down pretty deep.

We just got a good look at my motor after it hydro-locked. We opened the throttle and looked in the intake and you could see water just pooling in there. You don't have to go through a deep pool of water, just enough to generate a steady spray stream. My intake did not have a dry charger on it and was placed where Vortech specified. If you are going to have a CAI or Vortech intake down low, I would be very careful driving in rain. Like park it in the garage.

I just got mine, Have the drycharger on it, and plan to keep it on year round. Parking it during the rain isn't an option for me, so just gonna have to take it easy on the throttle when its pouring.
