I have had my heart set on an SRT8 for a while now while im waiting to sell M3.
How ever i have been offered my grandfathers 05 Grand Cherokee Limited for a rediculous price.
I figured i could buy the jeep and do an SRT replica as far as body work, wheels, suspention, exhaust, and a few other performance mods and be into it for about $15k.
That still puts me about $10k better then if i bought an 06 srt.
I am having a very hard time making the decision of what to do.
Any Comments? Suggestions??
Even though i know you srt owners frown on replicas :fight: hit me with opinions.
thanks

You be better off buying an srt-8 jeep as you would be putting lots of money in the 05 and still have an 05 limited.

It all depends on cash...if you have it buy a real SRT...I have a GCL with the Hemi and love it,I have done alot of Mods.to it and in the long run,you save on Maintenance all the way around, plus I have a spare and a hitch...your money your choice..mine is fine and gets folks looking all the time at it...GL

it will never perform like an SRT8 (unless you end up spending more than you would on the srt8). But if you're more concerned with aesthetic features then go for the limited.

I forgot to mention it has a 5.7 hemi in it.
Figure id be buying the jeep for 7k putting 8k into it and have a 15k srt replica

if you want the srt8 for the looks than just get the 5.7 and make a replica.
If you want performance get the SRT8

What's the point in doing a replica body kit? Who are trying to fool? It will never perform or be the same.

Simple , would you buy an 328I and Replica the crap out of it to look like a M3 ? If you would than go on with your Plan .

Night and day between 5.7 and 6.1- I've had both and thats the difference for me. Performance- buy grandpa's jeep, drive it for a while, say something is wrong with it so everybody doesn't frown on you selling it- try to make a few $ and put that towards the srt. You will have withdraw going from m3 to a 5.7. They are more useful winter or offroad but not that you use your m3 for that anyways...

Buy the limited, enjoy it, save your money.... then get a SRT8 when you have more coins. No point to have a nice car and be broke.

If you can afford it, my opinion is you buy the SRT8. There's just no comparison even with installing tons of replica type parts to the GCL. There are too many items inside and out that go into converting the standard Grand Cherokee at the factory into the SRT8. Seats, interior trim, steering wheel, transmission, gearing, suspension package, etc. And although maybe decent, the 5.7 is not the 6.1. Seems like a lot of trouble doing a replica to not achieve the same result. Good luck with whichever way you go though. Get the SRT!

I think that if you get the LTD you will still long for your original choice, the SRT8! If as other members have said, you can afford it go for the SRT8. You won't regret it. I have also owned both!

Can you afford both? Make the SRT a weekend toy.

Figure id be buying the jeep for 7k

Just buy the ltd. for $7k that is one heck of a deal. Save your money and then buy an SRT8 in 2012 or 2013 when the new one comes out. And you can keep your limited for when the weather is bad.

If you do decide to buy an SRT8, will your Grandpa sell me his Jeep for $7k?

Buying the 05" might save you some money, but you cant replicate an srt8. It doesnt look right if you try and make a regular JGC into an srt8. You buy an srt8 because its incredible and unique. You cant try and replicate something and expect it to be like an srt8.
