Is this due to the dreaded "oil in the intake tract" debate? This is what the oil catch can solves? What the heck could cause this?

I believe it is. I have had it a few times. The first time I was like WTF! Sunday I pulled off the pcv hose where it connects to the intake manifold and sure enough it had a little bit of oil in it, and its is dumpin right into the intake. I guess I need to get a catch can.

First of all I want to say Congrats on your winning 1st place at the car show.Your Jeep looks great. The under hood looks great also, but I noticed you have cut into the line that should go to the CAI tube and put a small K&N type filter on the end of a short tube. That is not a good setup as the CAI tube should be drawing the fumes out. What you have now does absolutely nothing.By not drawing the fumes as per oem setup I think that maybe the PVC valve is working overtime with the extra fumes.Just my 2 cents. Good Luck.

Oh...I guess this is what's causing it then? I did that because I noticed Sgt.Stanko did it, as well as the Arizona Speed & Marine setup. I'll put it back and see if that stops it.

Mango:

I'd defer to Sarge on this, but I don't understand why the filter you installed would be the problem. The PCV system is the only portion of oil vapor circulation system that is under vacumm control. What your filter provides is a clean source of air to that oil vapor circulation system. Based on Sarge's prior posts, when he installed the catch-can system, his blue smoke problem disappeared (and he has the same filter as you do). The solution appears to be a catch-can system, and not removing the filter you installed.

Yeah, I'm perplexed by this as well. My Dad's Jeep SRT8, also a 2007 (build date Dec., mine is a Nov. build) does NOT exhibit this blue smoke on startup. Yet mine does. I really don't know what to do.

Congratulations on your first place!

I get the blue puff sometimes as well. Mine is mostly stock.

I am planning to do the catch can mod when I get the time. The General has reported that it eliminates the problem. Here is the thread:

OB,
If the CAI tube ever draws the blowby out by the oil fill location...or if you have blowby coming out of there...look out, its time to trade her in!!

That my friend is the "fresh air make up side".........do this....remove the hose from the oil filler location and put your finger over it for about 5 seconds:eek: .....just what I thought.....now you'll understand what that does.....however when you are at wide open throttle and then let off it can "burb" oil back through that location. So Mango has done the right thing....you may want to study these.

BTW......I dont puff the bluish/white smoke anymore......at least not in the last 2,000 miles.

I remember this same thread from a few months back, did you try a search? I forget what the conclusion was on that one. It could have been on the orange board as well...I drank too much last weekend, no brain cells left!
