: Anyone consider the Trailblazer SS before getting their GC SRT8?
Prjct86Man 05-29-2007, 11:26 AM Im not trying to start a fight here, just curious, I know there has been a lot of comparisons made between the two and regardless of your decision you cant help but give the other props. I do not own either yet, I was pretty much dead set on the SRT but the price on the SS is sorta swaying me. This is how I feel this week, but it may be completely different next week. Just looking for some feedback if you considered the other before making your purchase. Thanks.
c24p13 05-29-2007, 11:31 AM im at that stage right now. But my friend raced a gcsrt8 and his trailblazer had a tune and everyone bolt and still could not touch the gcsrt8 and at about 80 or 90 the blazer started to inch ahead
umchemeng 05-29-2007, 12:11 PM I definitely considered both and here are a couple pros and cons (as my Newbie mind sees them)
GCSRT8
PRO - Much faster, Eye Candy, SIrius (not XM, I like Howard Stern), racing feel
CON - Less Utility (towing etc.), More expensive or fewer $$ incentives, fewer mods available right now (I think)
CMYKGUY 05-29-2007, 12:23 PM I did consider the TB SS and my head to head went like this:
Styling- GC
Power- GC
Price - TB
Utility - TB (but the GC can be fitted with a tow kit)
Warranty - TB
Fuel efficiency - TB (not by much though)
I've never been a Chevy, Ford or Mopar guy so that wasn't an issue. I just won't own a foreign car/truck.
In general, I don't care much for the bubble look of the TB, it doesn't appear as aggressive.
It came down to looks and power, I went with the GC.
z28plus 05-29-2007, 12:27 PM I drove a white TBSS and thought It was great. Had too much of a family feel really. Price does make a diffenence, but I am very happy with my decision to buy a SRT8
NOPE. never even gave the TB a thought.
2007GCSRT8 05-29-2007, 12:33 PM Never gave it a thought. The Jeep always appealed more to me.
DRIHEAT 05-29-2007, 12:40 PM I also went with POWER & LOOKS.
Lil0ne 05-29-2007, 12:42 PM Never gave it a thought. The Jeep always appealed more to me.
I 2nd that.
jlandbl 05-29-2007, 12:56 PM I considered both but will never tow which is the only thing other than price that the TBSS has over the SRT8 in my opinion. And the attached picture is for those of you who think the GC SRT8 has no utility factor.....
Prjct86Man 05-29-2007, 01:21 PM sounds like i need to drive both. oh and i need to make sure to not watch the commercial, that may sway me too much.
QBNKID 05-29-2007, 01:42 PM I have not considered the TBSS but my wife has for her
I still have my sight set only on the SRT8.
But I think that would be cool, wife to own the SS and me the SRT8. ;)
She also likes the SRT8 but told me it wouldn't be too practical to have two of the same, I told her they could be different color, and yes... black would be mine. :)
vinsane112 05-29-2007, 02:53 PM drive them both and i bet you go with the jeep
Mango 05-29-2007, 03:17 PM I never once considered the TBSS. Neat trucks, but nothing close to the Jeep SRT8 in my mind.
OurZoo 05-29-2007, 04:10 PM Nice rig indeed, but just not as menacing looking as ours. Not too mention everything else that comes better outta the box with the GC.
B-52GUNNER 05-29-2007, 04:30 PM I have had both, currently have a 2007 SRT8 GC, my TBSS was a 2006 I had a Vector tune other than that it was stock. A tune made all of the difference in the world (it's a must have with a TBSS). I like the GCSRT8 better, but for the money a TBSS is a pretty good deal. I do think the GCSRT8 is a better overall PKg (personal opinion, no flames please):p
Prjct86Man 05-29-2007, 05:26 PM thanks B-52, ive spent a little time on the TB SS forums and the Vector tune seems to be the most popular mod for them.
EX-SVTMAN 05-29-2007, 06:02 PM Early last year I considered the TBSS because I had not seen the SRT8 at that time...I went to see one and it looked good. I didn't test drive it but I figured it was great for me because it was an SUV and it was decent fast.
Then 1 fine and glorious day I saw the Jeep SRT8 and it just blew me away! So I was able to finally work a miracle (credit problems) and have my choice of anything 50k and under....guess what I picked?
You damn right -you motorboatin sons of *****es.... JEEP GC SRT8!!!!!!
There's nothing out there in my opinion that even holds a candle to it...from looks to exclusivity and performance...maybe a Vette performance wise but there's one on every corner and nobody even notices them any more.
I'm running a best 0-60 of 4.1sec stock to the bone... tell the TBSS to do that...I dare you.
My 2 cents but don't take my word for it....go drive and see one in person...you'll fall.

JTSRT 05-29-2007, 06:03 PM I considered both for a # of reasons. Aftermarket is good for chevy, I had an LS1 that was awesome, availability was another consideration but not so much anymore. Something else that I don't think was mentioned is later down the road, I think they will make fewer jeeps and the resale will be good. Even further down the road, I think the jeep will have a greater impact on motorheads when they are 25 and 30 years old. Just think of the rare classics that catch your eye now. 69 mustangs with 427 cobrajets, camaro yenko, etc. The jeep srt8 will trump the other srt8s and will stand out for a long time.
Rick G 05-29-2007, 06:22 PM I like both and considered both vehicles, almost bought a Tbss just wasn't the right time though. And I'm glad it wasn't......when it was the right time for me to buy I decided on the Jeep because it is just more BADASS looking. Just about everytime you park it a carshow suddenly starts with curious bystanders gathering around. The wife just went to get milk and said some kid was asking her all about it and snapping pictures of it and then proceeded to call one of his buddies to tell him all about what he had spotted. She said it was the third time today someone had checked it out and asked her about it.
Gotta luv it...............:p
I don't know what this TB thingy is? I think most have answered well, so I wont beat the dead horse about the raw power, great looks, etc. I just add this: Mopar baby!:D
theoneyoucantreplace 05-29-2007, 07:50 PM Buy the Jeep! After you own one, you will look back at this thread and apologize to us for asking the question.    :rolleyes

Prjct86Man 05-29-2007, 07:53 PM I knew something like that was bound to happen, personally I think Trailblazer SS and Cherokee SRT guys should stick together to stand up against the import ML63AMGs and Cayennes... American muscle FTW! But to each his own, and you guys are managing to be pretty damn persuasive.
Derwood98 05-29-2007, 07:54 PM LOl, didn't even consider the traill blazer. Looks too much like a Trail Blazer in my opinion.. LOL :D I am a die hard Jeep person so I am a bit biased.

MiamiSRT8 05-29-2007, 07:58 PM When you buy a SRT, the only reason to look back is to wave at a SS you just smoked.
"if I have to explain it, you'll not understand it"...Harley 1913, SRT 2006
07blksrt8 05-29-2007, 08:18 PM Here is my rationale:
The Trailblazer is a seven year old design, flimsy structure, seriously dated interior, 4 speed auto, LS2 engine is not as strong as the 6.1 Hemi, and is about 1 sec slower to 60, 1.4 sec slower in the Qtr, mile.
GC SRT8 is 2005 design, much better torsional rigidity in the structure, has Mercedes E55 AMG 5 speed auto trans, much better engine, exclusivity, and probably better resale down the road.
Despite having a GM card with about $2.5K in earnings (discount) I never even bothered to test the Trailblazer, but did check out the Cayenne and the Mercedes ML AMG. I may be a little biased, but the GC SRT8 offers by for the best value for the $$, and walks all over the Trailblazer. I have not regretted buying mine.
Good luck and let us know what you decide.
FastJeepSRT8 05-29-2007, 08:35 PM I owned a JGC 5.9 Limited before this. The SRT8 was a no brainer for me.
was dead set on a tbss until i figured out i could make the srt8 work financially
really wasnt keen on modding the tbss just to keep up with sr8s, HATED the interior, HATED the 4 speed auto, and wasnt fond of the handling. looked nice, mod potential was nice (though i wasnt 100% sure i was ready to play games with my warranty), and the price was great. but the second i realized i could make the srt8 work comfortably for me i was SOLD.
kramsay1234 05-30-2007, 01:20 AM A whole bunch of the same. It wasn't a price thing for me. I just heard that Chevy had a "similar" type vehicle. I took one look at it and it looked round and kind of family to me. That was really the last I looked at it. The Jeep is just a beast. If you pulled up in a TBSS, people would know you were in a Blazer. But how many times have we pulled up somewhere and people don't even realize the SRT8 is a Grand Cherokee??? People just have no idea what they are looking at, but they all like what they see.
slow91 05-30-2007, 05:37 AM ummmm...............no.
Snorman 05-30-2007, 08:03 AM I briefly considered one. Money wasn't an issue, I wanted something a little more unusual, wanted the power of the SRT and preferred the looks. I did sacrifice towing ability with the SRT, but my wife's GL450 is rated at 9k...so I can use that if I need to use my car hauler. She won't mind.

Ink Pump 05-30-2007, 08:17 AM There's nothing to touch this Jeep - until recently the quickest SUV out there!
danman_s 05-30-2007, 11:20 AM Actually had a factory order for a TBSS. I dumped it when the TBSS was delivered because a 06 SRT8 showed up at my chrysler dealership, fresh from the factory. As well, in Canada the SRT8 is less than the TBSS, so I got a screaming deal compared to what my longtime Chevy dealership wanted for a TBSS. And this was comparing a loaded SRT8 to a empty, AWD TBSS.
I also kept hearing that the SRT8 is better for the track due to the better chassis and suspension and this really perked my interest. I now actually road race my Jeep on our local race track and have surprised a ton of people with how well the Jeep handles at the limits. I've also found out that you can get into some heavy, heavy, heavy oversteer in turns without any hint of the Jeep wanting to tip over. I abuse the crap out of this truck and don't baby it at all. :D
(I do need new tires now, they sure didn't last long :( )
sanscritt 05-30-2007, 01:29 PM I considered it, drove one and liked it (as much as anyone can a Chevy). One of my concerns was pricing, but I found an 06 with 1800 miles for the same as a loaded TB. I don't think I would have gotten the TB after driving the GC. Don't like the interior on the TB as much, they have alot of problems (more so then the GC) and I see alot of them.
In the GC I have been to Pittsburgh and Florida and have yet to see another one.
Definitely made the right choice:)

Prjct86Man 06-01-2007, 06:12 AM yea, since i started considering the TB SS i have seen more than a handful around town, still not a single GC SRT.
2007GCSRT8 06-01-2007, 07:12 AM There's nothing to touch this Jeep - until recently the quickest SUV out there!
And that would be the new cayenne?
DJ Red Barron 06-02-2007, 08:14 AM I wavered back and forth for a short time, only because I didn't have long to get into an SUV. With a new job that required me carrying a lot of stuff often, I had to get out of the sports car world & into a SUV fast. Being the performance addict I am, there were 2 choices. The only problem was, at that time (a year ago), where I was located (Flemington, NJ), NO GC's could be found in the area. But the local Chevy dealer had 8 or so SS's. Between the availability & the rebates, I went with the SS. It's a nice SUV. It runs pretty well. But, I still have a need to a GC. So the SS will be going later in the year and I will get what I really wanted then, but couldn't find.
Hows2nd 06-02-2007, 09:28 AM And that would be the new cayenne?
No...the ML63 on paper is faster stock to stock (drivers race).
Prjct86Man 06-02-2007, 08:00 PM thanks for the responses folks.
srt8313 06-03-2007, 08:05 AM im not fan of gm, ford, or chrysler, im a fan style and horse power its. all about that gcsrt8!!!
MegaSRT-8 06-03-2007, 10:24 AM If you can afford the JGC SRT-8 and don't need the towing or extra utility, then get it!
If you want to save some $$, get the TBSS, but you'll be pissed everytime a GC SRT-8 smokes you - which won't be very often because they're so rare.
