: Raced a modded mustang..(older 5.0)
I was at the light with the wife and daughter in the car...The mustang came up in the other lane reving the motor...I knew that he was going to take off because the 2 lanes merge to 1 in about a quarter mile. My wife looked at me and gave me the NO look....
Greenlight...
I didnt floor it because my 8 year old was in the back but I took off fast...
He floored it, we were neck and neck and I was starting to pull ahead....but I let him go...Dont want to risk my family.
So we get to the next light where it goes back to 2 lanes...he rolls the window down and I did the same. I say "So Howd I do?"
He says "That thing is pretty G0D D@mn fast" and looks in pure amazement.
That was Awesome....Wish I could catch these opportunities when I am by myself!!!! I would have smoked him.
kramsay1234 05-29-2007, 09:19 AM Sounds like you handled appropriately.
MiamiSRT8 05-29-2007, 09:32 AM I had a similar "almost" experience with Mustang SVT in that rare "Chameleon" color.
A little reving, eye contact, head nod and…police cruiser makes a left turn right in front of us.
A shrug of the shoulders and see ya later wave.
El Jefe 05-29-2007, 11:12 AM Miami...was it a newer Cobra(03/04)? That would of been a different race...

No I think he means a fox body.
HoustonSRT-8 05-29-2007, 12:33 PM No I think he means a fox body.
No, there were only two mustangs ever offered from the factory with color-shifting paint. The '96 Mystic Cobra and the '04 Mystichrome Cobra. The '96 looked mostly black while the '04 looked mostly blue.

Yep 96 were 5.0's but the 04 is a 4.6 mod motor.
I thought he meant fox body because thats the easiest to distinguish as "an old 5.0". Its sometimes hard to recognize the difference between the 94-98 to 99-04 body styles. At least it still is for me.
MiamiSRT8 05-29-2007, 12:55 PM It was the older body style. Don't know much about them, just that they are quick.
Nice looking ride.

oh crap my bad guys. I thought you were referring to the original poster's Mustang he raced.
echo412 05-29-2007, 01:33 PM That's too funny ... I was driving to lunch today with my buddy in the beast and I saw this red mustang GT (4.6l) on the opposite side the road waiting for the light to turn green ... as soon as the dude sees me he starts revving his motor and doing his tourqe tilt thing... so I was like ok and gave it a little gas so he could hear my corsa singing for him ... so about couple of minutes later i am driving down the highway and I see this red mustang on my ass .. so i am like to my buddy dude he actually turned a youee to see what i got ... my bud goes you have to race him i am like i don't know he sounds pretty moded and we were doing 60 or so ... so i am like yeah his got the highway advantage but what the hell i am not going to disappoint him ... we line up doing about 50 and i manually down shift to 3rd and we both floor it ... at about 100 his front bumper was right where my rear bumper was ... and that's when he shuts down .... I slowed down to see if he wants to go again but he wanted none of that :)
EX-SVTMAN 05-29-2007, 06:18 PM Nobody's been foolish enough to try my beast yet... sometimes I'm w my 3yr old so that's the only time I won't rip them a new one. I still have a pending race w my boss and his 04 BMW M3.... I'll keep you guys posted on that.
As for the kill story, too bad you weren't alone to really make him cry...now he thinks he hung w an SRT8....poor bastard.
P.S- I love when the wifeys or girlfriends give you the "no! full of fear look" LMAO

Nope, again. :)
87-93 GT = 215-225hp 5.0L FI Fox Body
93 Cobra & Cobra R = 240hp 5.0L FI Fox Body
94-95 GT = 225hp 5.0L FI SN-95
94-95 Cobra = 240hp 5.0L FI SN-95
95 Cobra R = 300hp 5.8L FI SN95
96-98 GT = 225hp 4.6L SOHC SN95
96-98 Cobra = 305hp 4.6L DOHC SN95
99-04 GT = 265hp 4.6L PI SOHC New Edge SN95
99 & 01 Cobra = 320hp 4.6L DOHC New Edge SN95
00 Cobra R = 380hp 5.4L DOHC New Edge SN95
03-04 Cobra = 390hp 4.6L S/C DOHC New Edge SN95
And to help with distinguishing the difference, I present to you a 94-98 SN95 followed by a 99-04 New Edge SN95. :)

No biggie. Some people know certain models and other people are more familiar with other makes & models. I'm sure you could completely school me on Explorers.

mmmm... I know just a little about Explorers ;)
You know im still curious what "ndm" meant when he said "older 5.0". To the average untrained eye, its hard to distinguish the old to newer SN95's, IMO... If my wife or brothers saw both cars on the street they would have NO idea what year Mustangs they were, but if they see a Fox body, they would easily say, yeah "an older 5.0"... lol

Easy, the newer ('99+) SN95s never came with a 5.0L. The only SN95s that came with the 5.0L were the 94-95. They can be distinguished by the 3-bar horizontal taillights instead of vertical from the 96-98.

96-98 (4.6L) taillight

There are other small items that show differences, but these are the most noticeable. They can be easily swapped out, though.

LOL I can already see this guy posting all over the 5.0 boards about how he was able to hang with an SRT8! I could never get tired of these Mustang kill stories. :D
I must be lucky. My wife scopes out the competition for me when it's just the two of us without the kid. Hell most of the time she's the one egging them on!

Well, The exact same thing happened to me a month ago. I stopped at a red light in a two lane Ave when a back Porche Cayenne S pulls on my left. :p I looked at that huge black thing with darkened windows and the light goes green:p .... I thought.... it is my opportunity to see if my rig is up to that Porche and I floored as hard as I could... to my surprise my rig pulls up front and starts to gain a lot a space and I ended up a few meters in front of the Cayenne S at the next red light. :)
Light goes green again and we take off like two maniacs and again I win easy.... at the third stop light the guy pulls over and rolls down his darkened window and says what the F.... What a damn fast car you have over there:mad: . Is it stock??? Well... he made my day:D .... from that exact moment , I was sure I had bought the right car for me....:)
HoustonSRT-8 05-31-2007, 09:19 AM Cayenne S = normally aspirated V8. Easy kill.
