nyc -> south beach, fl (round trip)

15.3 mpg for the trip at avg cruising speed of 75 - 90

i pretty much stuck to i95 up & down, and have to say that it was a pleasure to drive roads with no potholes or bumps, and significantly less traffic than what i'm normally used to. ****ing nyc.

on a side note now the front of the hood & mirrors have spots & bug parts that aren't coming out, even after 2 washes and rain-x "bug & tar" application. is it possible to get this off without buffing? the spots come off if i rub them (hard) with a finger, but i'm not sure how good that is for the clearcoat.

Yeah, we get them twice a year here, now and in fall, for about a month each tme. They need to be removed almost immediately. They are very acidic (sp) and will definitely etch the clearcoat.

Get a bug sponge (little scrubber sponge with netting over it) at auto store. Use some Dawn detergent if they have been on a few days, and while keeping wet scrub like hell. Dawn will remove the wax also, so you will have to reapply.

If not on too long just use car washing soap and scrub like hell. Try this first.

Regardless, get them off now. If they have been on too long, try some "Scratch-X" rubbing lightly. Good luck

You can also use Bounce dryer sheets! (Wet of course) They work like a champ and melt the bugs away!! No kidding!! After going over it with the dryer sheet, just wash as usual and put on another light coat of wax to the area - for good measure -- and keep driving.

yeah I took a trip from Jacksonville, FL to West Palm over the weekend (about 500 miles RT) but I didn't take the beast because it's the love bugs season so I ended up renting a TB LS .... It was actually pretty comfortable ride with caddy like suspension compare to my Jeep ...do the SS's have the same suspension? another thing .. steering wheel has a great turning radius ... but the dash is extremely ugly ... chevy got to do a better with that dash

Something must be wrong with my ride because I took a road trip down to Corpus Christi this weekend and only averaged 13.6mpg with cruise control at 75mph. :(

did you reset the mpg counter before getting on the hwy? that's pretty ****ty, unless there was like a 20mph wind blowing at you from the front

To get the bugs out try rubbing hard with paint sealent with a clean microfiber towel. Thats what i use to get bird crap out of the clear coat and it works after you rub constantly for about 5 mins on each spot.

I got the bugs & spots out by compounding the whole shebang. Took a while but got everything out. Then I clayed it & put a coat of wax on.

I did run into a problem: I'm not sure why, but the compound (light stuff, nothin heavy duty) rubbed two light spots on the hood..I'm thinking that maybe the hood was too warm still when I started working on it? I know it's supposed to be cool. Anyway it's not too visible, and I'm hoping it can be buffed out.
