I stopped by my stereo guy here in the LA area with thoughts of upgrading the speakers in the 2007 SRT8. My stereo guy looks at the speakers, listens to them, tells me that these are good speakers! He recommends that I don't do anything! He even compliments Boston Acoustic!
Should I thank him for his honesty? Or maybe wonder if maybe he wanted to leave work early that day?

What stereo place is this? Is he your boy or someone you've purchased from in the past? You could definitely improve on the speakers, but I think I will be more happy when I add a sub eventually.

Were his ear plugs in or out during the demo?
I would stay very very far away from that place. If he thinks the factory system sounds good and he actually install stereo's in customers cars something is definitely wrong.

This guy did some decent installs on my old Durango but now after reading these posts I'm starting to wonder about this guy!
Time to find a new stereo guy, I think.

My guess is he does not want to mess with it cause he's unsure of his ability.

I am in the stereo industry and have been for 20 years, our 07 speakers sound good for what they are. if you are considering replaceing them you find your self spending alot of money. the reason is due to the factory head unit is all can data controled there for you can not remove the factory amp. you have to use it unless you plan on replacing everything. the amp has crossovers built in so what that means is the speakers in your front doors are a midbass speaker only the tweeter is in the dash. now you can change your speakers but the factory amp is only a 12watt output. and you will be wasting the abilitys of any speakers you put in. If any one is interseted I can give you a solution to replace some of the equipment ,or even to add a sub. If you do decided to alter your audio system with a sub you would be abuot into it at the least $700 for good quality equipment installed , unless you have done installs profestionaly i don't recomend a DIYS install .I think your stereo guy just didn't want to open a big can of worms.

Thanks for the info...I'm glad we have this forum to straighten out things like this. The stereo guy actually said something like adding a sub would be the best option for me so now I know where he's coming from. Will consider the sub and hit you up beforehand.

I went the route of upgrading the speakers and adding a compact sub. The speakers I chose were not cheap, but I am plenty happy with the results. The factory amp may not be too powerful, but it plays cleanly as loud as I want to go.
The installation was medium difficulty. I did it over several weekends and took my time(I soldered all connections). The factory service manual on CD and the info at WKJeeps was a great help on removing trim, etc. You need a little ability to read wiring diagrams and color coding. I tapped the rear amp outs for the sub.
I have documented the installs in other threads (see post #13) here:
Stock Speaker Replacement?? (http://www.***********/forums/showthread.php?t=933&page=2)
For me, the hardest part was partially removing the driver cargo trim panel and getting it back. Also, I accidently cross threaded one of the back seat anchor bolts, so that set me back some time. All in all though, it went pretty well.

I am with you. I currently run my stock stereo with an Alpine PDX1000.1 with two Boston G5 12" SUBS. I too have been building stereos for years and I think the OEM system is just fine if you tune it correctly. I think mine sounds great for not much investment. I challenge anyone to produce a better sounding system for less ching..
