Earlier this week Jeep hinted at expanding its product lineup by building a pickup truck and according to the latest reports, the new model has officially been given the green light.

The vehicle in question is said to resemble the 2005 Jeep Gladiator concept, using the Wrangler Unlimited platform but with two-doors and a bed in the rear. Said to be headed into production in 2011, it should arrive on dealer lots in 2012.

PickupTrucks.com reports that Jeep brand CEO Mike Manley has expressed interest in the past in building a small pickup, due to their popularity throughout the world. Plus, the creation of a small pickup for the Jeep brand would certainly work with Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne's plan to expand the Chrysler brands internationally.

Jeep hasn't offered a pickup model since the Jeep Comanche ended production in 1992.

If it can't do real-world work, it ain't gonna fly. Not much different than a Subie Baja.

A failed attempt at another J-10. Funny thing is..... it'll probably sell pretty good.

+1 on that.. I agree it isn't the best looking thing, but like you said it will sell good.

I was thinking about a Jeep pickup the past weekend actually, when I was at a show and got 2nd place in the "truck" class because I had to bed like the stock f250 had..

I think to contend with the other trucks, they should offer it in the 4 door wrangler lifted version. take this jeep

and put a bed on it...and make it come that way stock.... it would be sick! Hell i would get rid of my other jeep and get on if that were the case. Make it trail rated and very off road capable, maybe adjustable height like the new grand cherokee and it will sell great. Concept needs a little work, but i can see this being a great vehicle in the future for jeep.

Ilike jeep's ideas but i dont know if this looks right. It will probably sell but it just looks so boxy and not something that jeep would come out with.
