: Any HID install write ups?
AGray34 05-27-2007, 05:41 PM Hey everyone! Knew to the forumn. Just got an SRT8 and love it, but would like to ass aftermarket HID. I have been researching kits, such as TechONE etc...I was wondering what exactly is the installation process. I know bulbs, balasts, but how does the wiring work? Is it similar to a plug and play harness with the factory wiring or what?
Thanks!

AGray34 05-27-2007, 05:46 PM Thanks for the reply. I already had found that article while doing a search, and know that it is neccesary to use a relay. My main question is, is there any modification to the OEM headlight assembly, such as cutting, etc..in order to get balast to fit, or is it fit right in there? Any good installs with pics?
Thanks
slow91 05-27-2007, 06:02 PM The install is no issue. Everything should be plug-n-play. Bulbs fit right in the factory sockets and the ballasts mount right next to the HL assemblies.
All I did was pop the cover under the hood that holds the top of the grille in and the grille lifts right out for access. Good luck.

Hey,
There is NO modification needed for installing HID kits. I mounted my ballasts for my 6k lowbeams on the upper radiator support beam that goes along the top of the headlights. I mounted the igniter boxes on the lower radiator support beam. Zip tied everything in nicely, and used 3M tape as a barrier between the ballasts and the beam.
It looks more complicated than it really is, and there are many ways to install these kits. Some members have had custom plates made to mount ballasts, others have zip tied....so there is no right or wrong way.
Just make sure you use good grounding points for the negative wires, and use factory looms when possible. Meaning, follow along with them. This will ensure nothing is burnt or near anything it shouldn't be.
theoneyoucantreplace 05-27-2007, 06:24 PM Good information.... I am looking to add some next week. I am buying mine through Street WK. He is a good guy. I would suggest buying through him. He has the best prices I could find.

AGray34 05-27-2007, 06:32 PM Sounds like its definetly dooable. is everyone doing the LO and HI bulbs, that is what I would probably want to do?
Mango 05-27-2007, 06:43 PM I didn't do the High Beams, since when you go to HID Low Beams.....they are so bright it pretty much takes them out of the picture. I just left my SilverStar high beam bulbs in there.
If you do what I did, HID Fogs and Low Beams...you will have NO problems with night time visibility. VERY bright but not distracting to drivers. Just spend some time leveling them and you're set.
HID Conversion vs. a STOCK setup. Yes, both are 2007 SRT8's.
My setup on right: McColloch 6000k bulbs, 3000k Fogs.

Here you can see the pattern they throw. This was before final adjustment. But not bad at all for just stickin' the bulbs in!

AGray34 05-27-2007, 06:48 PM I like the way that looks alot. So its pretty much this..You put the balast and new bulbs in, mount a little equipment, hook up a relay and wala? Do I have to mangle with my factory wiring at all really or no? Thanks!
Mango 05-27-2007, 06:55 PM You'll need to plug your factory plugs into the harness, it's pretty simple. Then just find safe spots to bundle the extra wire up. It really is that simple. The toughest part is finding a SAFE place to mount the Ballasts and Igniter boxes.
AGray34 05-27-2007, 08:20 PM Where does the relay fit into the wiring setup? Also, does the relay require you to hook it up to a 12V and ground, or does it get that fromt he factory harness?
kramsay1234 05-27-2007, 08:34 PM You will need to get power to your positive battery terminal and negative ground on each side of the truck close to where you mount your ballasts. The relays will be part of the plug and play wiring in any good kit.
AGray34 05-27-2007, 09:36 PM Nice...so what is the real different between all of these kits. I have searched and found alot of the names. They seem pretty similar to me, some say they have the igniter with the balast I noticed. Also, what is the difference in the Kelvin ratings? What is standard HID Kelvin ratings?
Thanks
AGray34 05-29-2007, 02:30 PM Ordered my kit from Street WK. Anyone have pictures of installs. I have noticed some allright areas to mount the balasts, I was wondering if there was an area that everyone had pretty much decided was the safetst to mount?
Thanks
kramsay1234 05-29-2007, 09:32 PM here's where i put mine. these are the philips slim ballasts, so not sure others will fit here.

AGray34 05-30-2007, 09:58 AM Very nice install Kramsay. I see you have an 07 GC SRT8 like myself. Mine of course, did not come with the headlight covers. Where did you order yours from, the dealer or online? I found the part number in searches, but cant find anywhere to order them online. I would like to add them to clean up the install.
Thanks
kramsay1234 05-30-2007, 09:13 PM I ordered them from the dealer. Got the part number off this site. They are cheap.
kramsay1234 05-30-2007, 09:18 PM Actually, read the rest of my thread. It turned into a conversation about headlight covers...
