Here is the info per the MyGIG install in Milous' 2006 SRT8 that we worked on this week...

----------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah!!!!!!!!!!

We got the MyGIG radio installed last night... installation was extremely easy as the new radio bolts into the same mounting holes as the REC navigation radio. A "plug and play" harness simply plugged between the factory harness and the MyGIG radio. There is also an adaptor harness for the AM/FM antenna. On the way to me is an extension cable to run from the radio back to the cargo area so that I can use my existing antenna for Sirius Satellite radio.

http://www.wkjeeps.com/nav/MyGIG_Install_001m.jpg

I will not be able to test the audio until late next week. We forgot about the Can Bus trigger for the amplifier (needed for factory Premium Sound systems). An adaptor is on order and will be incorporated into a revised main wiring harness adaptor.

All of the functions for navigation seem to work perfect, I will be out on the road later today doing some more testing. This radio is amazing, soooo much more convenient than the REC model and a ton more options. It is incredibly easy to navigate through the different menus. I don't think I will ever be able to go back to the REC.

Bezel notes - as mentioned the radio fits nicely side-to-side in the existing factory bezel. Due to the smaller height there is a 1-1/2" or so gap at the top. I hope to find some sort of "cubby hole" device which could be installed above the radio. I figured there might be something out there made for custom radio installations that would happen to fit.

Meanwhile, in looking around my garage I ran across a roll of black plastic gutter mesh... this ended up to be a great temporary solution as I was able to easily cut a piece to fit above the radio. And hey, it kinda matches the grille mesh! There are a lot of possibilities, a switch bank could be mounted there as well, I'm sure others will come up with some unique ideas. It looks like it would be also possible to move the radio up to center it vertically withing the bezel. This way trim could be added at the top and bottom which might look better.

Once the project is finished I'll post some more pictures of the radio and harnesses that were used, along with any other tips I run across during the final phase of the "beta" testing. Next week the same installation will be done in a 300C SRT8 as part of the "LX models" testing...

Resume, I agree, that looks great! And I like the wood.

When you get time, could you elaborate on this further:

Does this screen set have pushbuttons (like for different stations or disks)?

Thanks in advance.

So does the MyGiG run all the NAV off of the HD? Doesn't the current NAV unit require you to have the DVD in to do any navigation? What is the possibility that mods will be available to allow one to watch movies on the MyGiG and infotainment package?

Just for those of you guy thinking of doing this you can only do it for the 06's as far as the 07's the stereos are Vin# coded to the amps.

Its got a 20gig HDD .. and yes the NAV runs off of that.. You can also rip up to 2000 MP3's to it.

It does allow you to watch DVD's.. depending on where you get it from you might have to get a StarScan to enable it.

This is an old thread and Resume has stated that this project has been abandoned due to issues with trying to link up, sat. antenna, blue tooth, etc. I believe????

Besides, Resume got rid of his 06 and jumped into an 08.

Unfortunately there were some obstacles that could not be overcome, not yet anyway. It's still possible that someone will come up with an interface to make it all work. I was able to get sat radio working no problem as well as the nav functions, but there were issues with UConnect and the rear DVD system. Wiring for those features is somewhat complex as is the way everything communicates with the vehicle. Had I been able to get the MyGIG to work I may have kept my '06, at least for another year. That was one of my deciding factors to switch to the '08.

Bump bump bump!!!! Somebody please get this to work! It would open so many doors! Plus 06's with a mygig in them would sell for so much more! I would do it myself if I knew more about how the systems work and the wiring, but I dont lol. I would only upgrade to this if they came out with an adapter kit that required no splicing.... Think of it as an investment oppertuinity, the holes already line up and horizontally it fits perfect...all we need is a wiring guru to make a plug and play adapter and a fabricator to make a cubby hole thing for the top....If two guys were to team up and make a kit they could make some serious $$$$ on this forum and elsewhere (ebay) thats for sure! please? :D

You mentioned that you were able to get the satellite radio and navigation to work. Was this just plug and play? I don't care for the rear DVD system and can live without Uconnect. Do you know if LockPick will function on an 06?

As someone just stated, the connectors are different.

You can use a standard satellite radio antenna and just it on top of the radio, I had one laying around from one of those Walmart sirius car kits.

Did you get an RER GPS antenna yet? You'll need it.

grip grip are you telling me I got the wrong my gig for the adapter to work?

No, you don't have the wrong one. Actually, you have the same revision as me, "I".

What I was saying is the GPS and Sirius antennas aren't interchangable, hence won't work for both the REC and RER units.

You will need an RER GPS antenna and a satellite antenna. Please don't pay $150 through the dealership for the sat radio antenna. The standard sat. antenna with the round connector will work, like the ones included in those cheap Walmart dash-mount kits.

As for the RER GPS antenna, Ebay is your best bet.

Don't fret, you simply place the new RER GPS antenna and the new Sirius antenna either on top of your radio or sandwhich them under the two flexible metal straps located just above the radio.

Your GPS antenna is located within two inches of your REC radio right now. That's right, it's inside your dash.

Your Sirius antenna is what's on the roof. The signal is adequate and sufficient when the new antenna is placed inside the plastic dash.

There is no need to purchase the expensive Mopar Sirius kit, just get the cheap $20 Sirius antenna and place it above the RER unit.

You have to get a new GPS antenna and Sirius antenna, The GPS antennna from the REC will not fit the mygig, You will also need the Lockpick to hook up to your 06 wiring for the mygig to work. The gps antenna in located in the dash the roof antenna is the sirius,I am going to buy a sirius antenna at walmart and plug into the back and locate the antenna on top of the my gig, I think that is what Grip Grip did. Hello this is my first post so please be kind.

I have installed a Mygig in my 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The first thing I did was by the Mygig adapter from
www.coastaletech.com/MYGIG_ADAPTER.htm

The second thing I did was by a GPS antenna from my local Jeep Dealer
(The GPS antenna wire was short there was not a lot of places I could put it except for inside the dash right above the my gig unit, there is a thin piece of steel above the unit, so I squeezed the GPS Antenna in between the thin peace of steel and bottom part of the dash) In the gap above the mygig i stuffed the green User manuel pouch

P/N 5150048AB ($43.00) (2008 Challenger)
P/N 5064464AA ($51.75) (2008 Durango/Aspen)
P/N 5064187AA ($51.45) (2009 Journey)

P/N 5064338AA ($43.85) (2008 Sebring/Stratus)
P/N 5064350AA ($40.85) (2007-2008 Wrangler)

The third thing I did was bought was the Sirius antenna of eBay from mr.cd1.
(The Sirius antenna that I bought of eBay was defective, so I went to the local circuit city and they had one $40.00, the one I bought from eBay was $30.00. If I would have to do it again I would just buy it from circuit city.)

SIRIUS DOT Ultra Low Profile Antenna
Model #: DEI 14125

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/SIRIUS-DOT-Ultra-Low-Profile-Antenna-14125/sem/rpsm/oid/187792/catOid/-14624/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

The Fourth thing I bought was the Uconnect Adapter of eBay for $50.00 from avondaleautomotive.

The last thing I bought was the mygig RER (low bus speed) radio of eBay for $599.00 from classymasi.(The price my vary from whom you buy from, I have seen price range from $400 – $1800)

To install the all you have to do is follow the instructions that where provided with Mygig adapter. You can also visit the website above to download a copy of the instructions, everything was perfect I had no problems with the install. The only problem I did come across was the Sirius antenna and figuring out where to put the Uconnect microphone.

Everything works great.

Mygig RER Unit – 599.00
GPS antenna – 40.00
Sirius antenna – 40.00

I did buy a second uconnect mic for the mygig I have not test the uconnect I am waiting for my update dics, because once you update the uconnect has to be paired up. I am working on put a plastic pocket to fit on top of the mygig, The radio kit is for a jeep with the regular radio, to install a aftermarket unit with pocket, the holes line up I will get it installed this weekend and show.

i'd like to see some creative solutions for that empty space above the mygig... i'm thinking aluminum trim piece that matches the existing trim?

You could always use the standard non-navigation bezel trimmed to fit. At least I keep hearing it works.
