Just noticed a ~1" gouge on the left front wheel on my 1-week old truck (with 980 miles on it). I've been the only driver haven't come anywhere close to a curb. Furthermore, there are no tell-tales signs on the tire (i.e. scrapes in the rubber). I'm thinking during my travels this week, I hit a few particularly nast potholes and road construction areas during the trip. 4,800 lbs + 20" wheels + low profile tires = frequent gouges not due to curb rash.
Anybody having this problem?
I've got 35's on my E55, and haven't had an issue, but it's also a lighter car.

Ouch! Man I'm sorry to hear that. I feel your pain though, I got my first gouge the second day I had it with only 75 miles. You could've hit something in the road without realizing it. The profile is so low on these tires that they offer zero protection for the rims. I filed mine down to smooth it out the best I could and just try to forget that it's there, until the next time I wash it. :(

Yeah...I'm not going to stress about it. But I'll probably pick up an extra front and rear wheel to keep as spares.

Just got some on my RF rim - at all of 1600 miles. Noted here and in a few other threads that some folks say some is fixable. Any suggestions before I take the bastard to it and begin filing? No gouge, just rash.

I would consider taking it to a custom wheel repair shop and let them repair and put a new coat of clearcoat on it.

guys....this seems like a problem with the wheels to me. I have 245-35-19's on one 3000GT and 245 40 18's on another and I have never had anything like that happen. Sounds to me like a seriously bad tire and very weak wheels Which for the price that DCX asks for the wheels...they should survive a nuclear blast.

I put a nice chunk of $$$ into a light restoration last year. The car looks fantastic. I honestly haven't touched it in over 6 months, as it is in storage.
Here's an older pic...

The car went 11.4@123mph off the footbrake last year on a set of dead ET Streets and 23psi of boost.
