Ok guys after reading several posts I have finally registered and I am a new member :). I had an 07 Harley F150 Saleen pickup and sold it for the slug I am in now, the Tahoe.

I have decided I need a Jeep SRT8 and have been looking at several for about a week. My question is when do you guys generally need a brake job and tires? Several of the Jeeps I'm looking at have around 40-50K and I assume they are gonna need at least brakes and a good chance possibly tires too unless they have already been replaced.

My other concern is, has there been any consistent problems with these SUV's I should be aware of as far as mechanical failures? I know wear and tear depends on how heavy your foot is, I do have concerns about the transmissions, how are they holding up with all this power? I hear the Hemi is a badass motor but just wanted to hear y'alls reviews first, not some magazine editor...

Hello and welcome! I was in the same boat as you about a month ago and all I can say is the jeeps are awesome. The thing you need to realize going in are that maintenance on these beasts is not cheap, but for the most part they hold up very well in stock form, (and even so modded if not extreme). Brakes and tires are not cheap and you can figure $1,500-$2,000 for a new set of tires,( good ones anyway). The trannys in my opinion are pretty tough and until the big addons like S/C, Turbos, etc are added they do a good job with proper maintenance. I'm probably not the one to give alot of info on durability as I'm a new owner but it was important to me as well and I did alot of research prior to buying mine. One thing I can tell you is although they are an expensive vehicle to buy and maintain, all the sting in the wallet leaves when you mash the pedal to the floor and launch like a rocket. The down side to owning these things is it is so freakin' easy to get more power you want to keep adding parts. Good luck with your search and decision and there are several nice vehicles usually on sale on this forum so you may want to check them out as well.

if you choose to buy run flat tires they will cost you an arm and a leg, i have nitto 420s tires and they cost me 1100 canadian shipped to my door. I bought my jeep 2 years ago and everytime i think that i should sell it or not have bought it i go for a drive and have a big change of heart and theres no way i could get rid of it, moral of that story is go buy one!
