: Best Oil for GCSRT8?
Scorpio 08-18-2010, 06:22 AM Good Day to all! Can anyone advise on the best oil for the GCSRT8?
Almost time for an oil change, but not sure which brand to go with.
Currently I have just over 14,000 miles on it.
Thanks in advance.
Mobil1, Royal Purple, Amsoil, pretty much any quality synthetic oil will be fine. Also, don't cheap out on a filter, get a K&N, Mobil1, or similar.
Dirty 08-18-2010, 06:49 AM Mobil 1 , 0w40 is my go-to
D VADER 08-18-2010, 06:55 AM Mobil 1 , 0w40 is my go-to
That's what came in my 2010 Jeep. I'll stick with it.:)
Scorpio 08-18-2010, 06:59 AM Thanks Ekaz and Dirty. I really appreciate the info. I want to make sure I do all I can to take care of this baby since we plan on keeping it for a while.
Scorpio 08-18-2010, 07:01 AM Thanks Vader!
Scorpio 08-18-2010, 07:01 AM Mobil 1 it is!
nitromt 08-18-2010, 07:03 AM M1 0w-40 is a high quality oil. However, most oil analyses said that it's consider a "thin" 40.
rwboring 08-18-2010, 07:27 AM maybe people are switching because 0 is used to like -40degrees... if you are in florida then i doubt you need that!...
besides its a difference in like $6 a quart or go to walmart and see what they have for $23 for 5 quarts...

Nowhere in my analysis' has this oil ever been referred to as thin.

Mobil 1 0w40 or 5w40 will do the trick for you.
but several guys in hot climates have switched to mobil 1 15w50 for the summer time and then go back to the 0 or 5w40 for the winter.
I will be switching over to the 15w50 in the next oil change. and I always use either WIX or Mobil 1 filters.

no but the "0" means it is a thin oil... i think that is more of what he meant
wooleybulley 08-18-2010, 10:40 AM i went to a quicklube and they said that a big warning popped up on their screen when they punched in my vehicles details saying "mobil 1 0-40 or it'll void warranty". I dont know if this is true or not.
rwboring 08-18-2010, 11:33 AM you are also in canada where it is colder then an ice cube... :)
m4xm1l10n 08-18-2010, 12:50 PM Mobile1 in all cars I've had , simply pick the grade that is required by the Manual , luckely bothe my cars takes Mobile1 0-W40
kenta 08-18-2010, 02:46 PM Just had my rig in for a complete fluid change at 14,000 and brought in 7 quarts of mb 1 15w 50 and the dealer would not put it in saying that it would void the warranty. It is really hot in Orlando and I know others have used that weight in the summer. Have any of you guys heard of this before?
DCSpecial 08-18-2010, 02:48 PM Mobil 1 for me.
15w-50 during the hot summer months. 0w-40 the rest of the time.

It's a thinner 40wt oil that's still within spec of "40w". Most on LGT forums ran M1 5w-30 and consumed about 1qt every 3000 miles. This did not happen on other dino oils or even Pennzoil PP 5w-30. Their solution was to use M1 0w-40 (as is mine), and no one had oil consumption afterwards. M1 0w-40 is not expensive either. Most PX's on post sell it for $6.50/qt with no sales tax which is LOT better compared than what Pep Boys and Autozone want for a qt.

The "0" denotes the viscosity at startup. Generally, a lot of engine wear occurs at start up where not all parts of the engine are lubricated that well. Most people prefer a lower number.
That doesn't mean it's considered a "thin" oil for it's rated weight.

There is a TSB that states to use it. So no it will not void your warranty.

No, Wade was giving me poop for having a Ford and I was saying that my Ford was there for me when the Jeep broke down cause it couldn't handle a road course. I destroyed my trans and it was out of commission for a month.

Rebuilding it stock, or adding parts that don't break as easily? I'm wondering if there would be any interest from anyone for my rebuilt unit Western Diff fixed up and old driveshaft. Have it in my garage in a coffin sized box. I have no idea what to ask?
I use Amsoil European Blend 5W-40 and the longer K&N filter HP-3001. It's mounted in a different location, not on the engine block.

BACK ON TASK... 0-40 is pretty extreme and expensive... not really needed

JBC 1963 08-19-2010, 04:08 PM When I purchased my Rig, I bought the oil change package that granted me 4oil changes. Then they tell me (the stealership) that they threw in an additional 4 free oil changes. After roughly 12,000 miles, they switched over to using Penzoil. For the past 6,000 miles they (the stealership) have been putting Penzoil into my Rig and I have not heard the annoying Hemi Knock coming from my engine at start ups and my oil is not as black when I check it before I take it in for an oil change. I don't have any proof of this but my Rig does seem to performed better when I was using Mobil 1........Go figure!!!!
rwboring 08-19-2010, 09:17 PM penzoil is the last that i would use... they prob just did it to save money

They lost their contract with Mobill 1 when they filed for bankruptcy.
rwboring 08-20-2010, 07:06 AM They lost their contract with Mobill 1 when they filed for bankruptcy.
yes they did... im just saying i would tell them to shove it before i let them put that crap in... not worth it to me for "free changes"... if that was the factory fill and i got free changes i would be making sure it was going in there...
(after all, the dealership doesnt fill warranty claims and Chrysler only has to worry to 36,000 miles right?)
Rose City GC SRT8 08-20-2010, 07:52 AM SRT Engineers state any quality, brand-name synthetic oil 0W, 5W, 10W-40, or 15W-50 is perfectly fine. I think they should know.
