Sorry for the delay guys, here are the pics of my interior LED transformation.

I purchased all lights from www.autolumination.com

I put a footwell light in for comparison purposes. All lights are "bright white" where applicable.

Car off, this is for reference. Front window is tinted same as rears.

Now, I unlocked the doors. Just so you get an idea of how much light the LED Festoon bulbs throw.

Now you can see how "yellow" the stock bulbs are! YUK!!!!

This is a SINGLE LED bulb throwing that light! :)

Sorry for blur, I couldn't hold the camera still enough for the shutter speed to adapt.

The overhead rears are more of a "blue" tint, but they are still considered "bright white" from autolumination. It's the bulb design I guess, they are different from the ones under the footwells that I'm using.

I took the metal shields out of the overhead console. They throw MASSIVE light but it dosen't blast me in the face. It's quite nice.

And finally, this is my fuzzy friend. EVERY day I catch him hanging out around my GTI in the street. I guess he made friends with my "Fast" lol! So cute.

Looks great Mango what lenth are the dome lights and rear dome lights? 39mm or 44mm?

And why did you not change the passenger side floor bulb?

The map lights are 44mm Festoon bulbs.

http://autolumination.com/festoon.htm

The REAR overhead lights by the handles are actually plain ol' 194 bulbs that push in, not Festoons.

http://autolumination.com/194.htm

Be warned, I've purchased many types of 194 bulbs from autolumination, and the "4 Star SMT" bulbs burn out FAST. I've had 3 of them die on me in the last month. I don't know what the deal is. The little LED panels die out one at a time, then they start to flicker.

How do you pop the cover of the rear seats correctly? It seems like I'm gonna break the covers trying to pop 'em out.

OurZoo:

A Nice set of panel pop tools comes in handy, I use the ones from Eastwood.com (just search for "pry" and you'll find the $30 set I use).

Start at the end opposite of the spot where you push on the clear lense, and you'll see where the lense attaches to the housing. put the pry between the lense and the plastic housing and it should pop out, you may need to do one side at a time. Mine popped out easily. Then just wiggle the lense right out, the end where you push has an L shaped peice that activates the button and makes the click sound.

If I had a camera that recorded video I could illustrate this better....darnit.

what kind of camera do you have... just curious

A Canon Rebel XTi with a SWEET Canon EF-S 17- 85mm image stabilized lense. If I had a monopod I would have been able to get some better pics. I broke my last one hiking (never use them as climbing poles) .

So.... You have a list of which bulbs (there are like 90 on the autolumination page) you used for all the applications?

I'd like to do this as well.

Huge improvement and something I never would have thought doing at all....Until now. Much richer look inside.

Mango:

I did the exact same SMT Tower #194's for the (5) lights I mentioned in the other post and they are all good EXCEPT the low lumen "glow" coming from the grab handle LED's. I have switched lamps, turned over (which doesn't work as LED's are polarity sensitive) and ONLY these 2 stay dimly lit ALL the time. "Until" you either release the capacitive energy by manually turning "one-of-them" on..... waiting about 20 seconds.... then turing it off. Then they go out when the ignition is off and the delay-bus is inactive. It seems that at any givin time. There is a "low-voltage" or capacitive condition always present at these (2) lamps.

Do you get the same? Or is it just my factory lamp wiring "on-the-pipe"

Whoa....I do not get that glow at all. I am not using ALL of the same bulb, maybe thats why? I'm using two different style LED bulbs in the grab handles.

I'm using the 194 "Superstar" super white bulbs in the grab handles in my pictures.

I'm using the SMT 4-Star under my dash (footwell). But those things seems to burn out fast...so I'll be switching them out for something else. Maybe the "Tower" model.

Sorry I didn't make this clear before, I didn't think the capacitive function would be a problem.

Thanks Mango! I'll order those.

I used these for the footwell's as they are the 906/921's. They only need to shine "straight down" as well, for the rear hatch. I removed the lens covers under the footwells only to and they are very bright now:D

Hello , I was on the light bulb site and there are lot of 44mm festoon bulbs from 8.99 to 11.99, Also how do you get the map lense off I think I broke one side so I stopped how do you take off the grab handle one off .On the foot well lights I took the cover off it made the light look brighter.

Thanks

chris
