i went to a dealership where the guys were really knowledgable about the 6.1 engines....the technician said that the 0-40 mobil synthetic was what they all used.

Just dropped mine off at the dealer for some warranty repairs and an $69.95 oil change. They use Mobil1 0-40.

Wal-Mart had some Mobil1 0-40 for $5.97 a quart. It is the only recommended oil, although I have heard that synthetic 5-40 will work as well and not void the warranty.

I just had my second oil change performed with 5300 miles on the vehicle. I switched over to Royal Purple XPR 10W-40. It is one of Royal Purples racing formulas so even though it is a heavier weight than the 0W or 5W-40 it is light enough for our engines. I am amazed at the difference that the oil makes. The engine runs smoother and quieter at idol and feels great at high RPM's. I have also noticed a small reduction in normal operating temperature. I also switched over the a K&N high performance oil filter.

I run AMSOIL have for many years. Best oil there is, check it out for yourself. I originally started useing it when I lived in Riverton Wy. Six week of below zero weather 40 below many nights. This was 20 years ago I would run it for 25,000 miles before changeing. Go 12.500 change filter would be down one quart at that time. Go 12,500 then would be down little more than a quart change filter and oil. It is thin to start in cold but does not burn either. Got away from useing it for several years, but bought a turbo pt cruiser felt like the turbo deserved the best, still best oil there is. Now in the Jeep srt 5W-40 european formula. Check it out on their web sight www.AMSOIL.com read and believe It Just Works

Don't own a SRT8, but do have an '04 WJ Special Edition and an '05 WK Laredo.

I run Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-30 full synthetic.

We're still on the factory fill, but will most likely use Redline synthetic, 10-30.

Not trying to push you but if you go with a lower viscosity you will lose oil pressure and rising your pistons with the 11:1 ratio. At least run some thing in the 40s to prevent any damage. I work for Royal Purple and I have damaged one of my pistons and i ran the 10w40 and I am still trying to figure out the problem but you can never be too safe.

The change to the idle and noise levels will likely be temporary. I run Royal Purple in my Chevy Truck and it's always very quiet and smooth for the first few hundred miles after a change and then it returns to it's regular ole noisy self for the remainder of the oil cycle.

Point taken. I believe they have a 10-40 product. I wish it was more of a 5-40, but I don't think they carry it.

You'll need a good full synthetic product. Mobil 1 0w40 is available almost anywhere, is the factory supplied & approved oil & works great. SRT recommends 3000 mile oil changes so don't get too caught up in the hype of using "Extended Performance" products whether they are RP's, Amsoil's or Mobil 1's.

My service manager said don't worry too much about the 3,000 mile mark... he said "just bring it in before you hit 4,000 miles."

they all say that and you can go 4000Yeah you can go 15,000 but why would you?

No the 15,000 is not on the same oil and filter. What you do is at 4,000 you change your filter and top off the oil. then at 8,000 you do the same. until you hit 12,000 or 16,000 but then you drain all the oil and filter and put all new. Any more than that you really need to get an oil analysis. 4,000 is what is was going to do and there are few guys that I have talked to at work with the 6.1 they are doing the total change at 8k and the filter change at 4k. They have not had any problems.

I would not tell you any of this if I was not sure your motor would be safe.
