: Coolant tank upgrade
LoudPedal 07-29-2010, 07:18 PM Besides the JMB tank that I've seen does anyone know of another aftermarket coolant overflow tank that fits?
What has anyone done to make the OEM one look better?
jntdysf 07-29-2010, 09:21 PM Having mine painted to match the body color-silver PS2. It's at the paint shop now. I'll post pics when I get it back.

LoudPedal 07-30-2010, 01:35 PM Thanks Rob...painted certainly looks better. I like the fluid level window.
robpp 07-30-2010, 02:55 PM just a piece of tape strategically placed
yeah i saw that mod on lx, went to moparparts and ordered a new tank to paint. like in 2 minutes after first saw it.
and you can paint the existing just be sure to clean it WELL. but can be done.
its one thing I actually painted myself. it could be better.....rattle can clear just isnt the same.....
LoudPedal 07-30-2010, 03:48 PM Good call on starting with a new tank. Think I'll order one today and sharpen up my rattle can skills.
robpp 07-30-2010, 04:11 PM if you looking for color match i have used automotivetouchup.com thats what i used for that tank
LoudPedal 07-30-2010, 09:29 PM Thanks...I've used that paint before when I fixed one of my mirrors....good stuff.
KidItsRandall 07-31-2010, 01:46 AM I did the same thing. Painted it wrinkle black and used a strip of 3m tape for a coolant window...Peek A-Boo
jntdysf 07-31-2010, 07:58 AM I started with a new tank also.
LoudPedal 07-31-2010, 12:03 PM Spent too much time online last night searching for an after market tank....was hoping to get something in aluminum that I could get powdercoated. Couldn't find anything close. The JMB one just doesn't do it for me. So I ordered the OEM one and will take it to a fab shop and see what can be done. If that's crazy money I'll paint it like you guys did. Thanks for the ideas!
SrtJake 07-31-2010, 07:13 PM Has anyone tried to install the JMB hidden tank made for an SRT Ram?

Hadn't seen that one. Where would you put it and can you monitor the level with that one? Hidden would be cool.
nyjoed 08-01-2010, 06:07 PM where do u purchase an oem coolant reservior tank?
jntdysf 08-01-2010, 08:08 PM I got mine through a friend that works at NAPA for about $40. Dealer wanted $60, if I remember correctly.

nyjoed 08-02-2010, 06:24 PM Justins is nice but im not crazy about the shape. Its too rectangular. Can he do something more like the oem shape with a monitor glass?? That would be awsome!!

I agree about the one they have that mounts on the fender. Doesn't look like it's even for the jeep. The one 98spyder is talking about is their hidden one...check out the link in post 13.

nyjoed 08-17-2010, 12:42 PM i think we should try to have justin make one that looks just like the factory tank but in aluminum so we can have it powdered. that would look the best the shape of the current one he offers does not do it.. thoughts?

Squilly D 09-24-2010, 09:06 PM I like the look of the painted tank but am concerned about how well the paint will adhere over the long run. Any feedback from those who have gone this route?

Good question. I had it done by a body shop. It's rock solid right now. It is covered in clearcoat. I polish and wax it without any problems. I'll let you know how it holds up.
LoudPedal 09-26-2010, 05:37 PM The silver looks nice. I'm still wanting a better looking tank but went the painted route for now. I got a new one and painted it. Used a semi gloss duplicolor. Since I have an 07 I didn't need the electrical bracket on the back corner of the tank so I dremeled that off. So far no problems at all with the paint.

Looks good. It would be nice to have a powder coated meatal one. I asked Scott at BT about producing one in the future. Too expensive to fabricate.
LoudPedal 09-26-2010, 09:05 PM Thanks guys.
I think I'll hit up a local fabricator and see what I can get done.
