: Is it just me...or is it possible for our trucks to "get weaker"?
delosh 07-20-2010, 07:52 PM Lately I've felt like my truck is lamer than it once was. I remember the first few days/weeks that I had it, it was like a friggin race car. But now, it never impresses me anymore.
Am I just used to it?
Could it really be less peppier than before?
Am I just crazy?
I will say that it has never been to a track or dyno'd so the perceived power is solely by SOTP measurement.

srt8ftw 07-20-2010, 07:54 PM i hear a vortech calling
higshemi 07-20-2010, 07:55 PM Summer heat and humidity bro.... The pep will be back in the fall.
WESLEY KAY 07-20-2010, 07:55 PM Yeah I think you are used to it now honestly. That is when the mod bug usually kicks in. Nothing will ever be fast enough if you get used to it. My brother just drove my truck and said that was one of the fastest things he has drove. I didn't think so....lol. Wes
RIDKLIS 07-20-2010, 09:30 PM for what it's worth, you could try a different tune

Chris Hull@TTC 07-20-2010, 09:37 PM You will get used to the power and always want more. What turns your stomach
one day will seem like nothing the next. Its amazing what you can get used to. Weather
doesnt help but i think its more what I am talking about. Took me a month to
order heads and cam package and this is my first fast vehicle!!
WestPalmBeachSRT8 07-20-2010, 09:57 PM You do get used to the power... It happens..
At the very least reset your transmission adaptives... that helps... You'll get the downshift you had in mind... not the bog.
m4xm1l10n 07-20-2010, 10:55 PM Honestly it might be the heat yes.... BUT.. MHP CMR did make me extremely slow on hot days pulling as much as 9 degrees of ST-KNK but works great on cooler days . Now TOONA CMR is very consistent in all weather . Just thought I'd let you know .
J&D's SRT's 07-21-2010, 02:42 AM I do think you get used to it. I got a tune on mine & not my wifes. When I drive mine alot I get used to it & at times I think the same thing. Then I'll drive hers & realize theres a big difference between the two. Its even more obvious when I get back in mine. This hot weather also sucks big time. You should at least try unhooking the neg. cable for a few & hit the brakes or turn the lights on with it unhooked, some say do one & some say do the other it seems.

YoungMedic23 07-21-2010, 05:08 AM My Vortech 426 felt like it got weaker...
After time you just have to adjust accordingly....baby steps really.....a mod here and there
A few cheap mods like thermostat, manifold spacers, and nice cai with adjusted predator fan settings keep your power levels consistent even in this heat
jim383 07-21-2010, 06:55 AM In my case in the 1/8 & 1/4 mile i dropped .09 & 1 mph & .13 & 1 mph in the diff of 1600 ft of DA. In most cases i think the tune has a lot to do with how much you slow down in the heat.

as the DA goes up youll get slower... maybe not as much but a 40 degree day vs a 95 degree day will always show a difference
Rose City GC SRT8 07-21-2010, 08:38 AM You are now fully infected. There is no cure. Didn't your momma warn you about this?
delosh 07-21-2010, 09:15 AM Thanks for the replies guys.
Be clear on this – I am no newbie to the mod bug. I'm been modding heavily for 22 yrs.
I think the heat is largely to blame. Occasionally, when we have a rare 60 degree morning that SOTP feeling comes back. During the winter, I swap my PCM for a completely OEM tuned PCM. I instantly feel a perceived lag and lazy shifts. I swap PCMs because, for some unexplainable reason, I only have 2wd on ice/snow with the MHP tune – no ice/snow, it's AWD. Weird.
I would be open to a new and fresh tune but am uncertain about who to go to. I have read all the battles about tuning here, so I won't open up that can. I was happy with my MHP tune but obviously Andy has moved on since his Jeep days (and he is/was local).
I have a Predator buried in a moving box somewhere in the garage. Gotta find it.
I have already gone down the FI route with my 2000 Durango. I did a Kenne Bell supercharger with water/alc injection, posi rear end and 4.10 gears. I got used to that too. I don't think I'll go down that route with this truck.
I spoke with Matt and Wade over dinner when they were passing through town. Wade had some great info on tuning. I'll see if I can bug him.
Thanks,
Daren
Harrison@Stage6 07-21-2010, 09:21 AM How many miles are on it? Have you ever changed the spark plugs? Mine felt like yours did.... getting used to it. Changed my plugs with a closer gap and it felt like a new truck.
delosh 07-21-2010, 09:27 AM Hmm. Didn't think about the plugs.
I have 49k on it. What plugs should I buy? And what gap?

Thanks for speaking the obvious in The effects of DA...I didn't know that! lol....;)
While I didn't specify that his power levels will be exactly the same cool and hot weather, he will maintain more consistent power if his 170-180* thermostat is open longer and his fan is running more as opposed to being stock and running at 230*

I like to turn the key to the start position for 30 seconds to reset the PCM/TCM. I know for a fact that completely drains the capacitors.. I have heard about the brake and headlight ones but have never used them.
KidItsRandall 07-22-2010, 09:29 AM Im curious about the plugs tooo

yes i just didnt want people to take your post as if you get those mods they would run the same in the different air temps... you are 100% correct that your motor would be more consistent though...
thats all
