: Which brake pads?
HoustonSRT-8 05-19-2007, 02:24 PM Ok, I'm having a constant squeal now with the factory pads, so I'm looking to go aftermarket. Looking for suggestions on good pads that are low on dust. :)
P.S. It's gonna be embaressing going to the track tomorrow with squealing brakes. :o

I like the Satisfied ceramics, got them from GSM-yes GSM-decent price. More bite than some aftermarket, not quite as good as stockers & less than 1/2 the dust of the OEM's. I have about a 100 miles on mine and all is good, no noise or problems.
HoustonSRT-8 05-19-2007, 02:58 PM $235 for pads?! No thanks.

Nice response  I didn't see any price qualifications in your original post. Guess I'll just keep my suggestion to myself. :)

I am looking for a pad with a bit more bite than the Posi quite centric pads. Actually going to the SRT driving experience, I forgot how good the stock pads felt. I just could not put up with the stock pads eating the rotors so badly. After bedding them in per the shop manual specs I never did have a squeak though.

Bill, No problem. A couple hundred more miles-I will be more than happy to share my complete thoughts.

I guess I'm just used to seeing $60 pads being the "upgrades" from local parts stores. :o

All 4 wheels? I mis-read GSM's site then. It says they are sold in sets of 4 and I processed that as 4 pads, not 4 sets. :o
I'll consider them now. ;)

cheaper than GSM work great no noise and much much much less brake dust than stock.

As Dave Z. is MOST helpful on brakes, after a few months of low dust, no rotor eating, a slight rear wheel squeal I am now looking for a pad that offers a bit more bite. As I wash Hemi regularly, I can do with a little more dust if it will stop as well as the original pads. I will not change though if it means any change will eat up my drilled and slotted DiscItalia's, which look terrific.
Interested in the Generals long term comments and GC's comments after a few more weeks. I respect the hell out of both these guys as no BS type's.
On the brake sidelines for a few more weeks.

HoustonSRT-8 05-19-2007, 07:40 PM Quick question - Do our Jeeps use the same brake pads as the lower models? i.e. 4.7 & 5.7?

Quick Answer - NO!
HoustonSRT-8 05-19-2007, 09:40 PM Quick Answer - NO!
Quick agreement! That's what I thought. I was just second guessing myself. My wife wants the squeaking gone ASAP so I was looking through local parts stores to see if they had anything semi-decent to tide me over for a little while and they list the same pads for the SRT-8 as the other vehicles.....
Guess I'll be looking at those GSM pads even harder.
CMYKGUY 05-19-2007, 10:09 PM So what is the dealer's responsibility for fixing the squeal??
Can I "bed" these brakes? I have 1,100 miles on 'er now and the squeal is freakin' killing my roll. I'm coming home from the Cubs/Sox game (go Cubs) today and leaving Wrigley field, there were women ALL OVER the place...They would look my way after they heard the squeal. Of course I made up for it with a little throttle burpin' so the focus was drawn away from one sound and towards another.
Oh well, there will be more games but this brake thing needs to be fixed. Can I just go back to the dealer and demand a fix? Will they permanently fix it?

I originally had brakes from Zeckhausen, they were the Centric Posi Quiets....it felt like i had wooden pads.....absolutely no dust.....but MAN:eek: try to stop fast and forget it.
Then I tried Satisfied.......:) I'm thinking, yea I got back the bite with low dust.....well then they started to squeal a bit when cold.........so a friend works at Centric and I engaged them on brakes. So about 5 weeks ago they got me a new set of Centric Posi-Quiets and they installed them......and properly bedded them...this time the performance was so much better! I cant say they have the initial bite of stock or the Satisfied.....BUT....they really stop well but this time they do seem to dust much more so then the first set of Centric and about the same as the Satisfied.
My opinion is I should have removed the Satisfied, cleaned up the rotors and placed some anti squeal lube on them and reinstalled them.
I am very happy with the Centrics this go around, but it is a crap shoot depending on what factory the pads were produced at, especially since most of them come out of Canada and China. Also how you bed the Centric is important......this time around they are Centric Posi Quiets #104.
NitroCrzy 05-20-2007, 12:47 PM I'll have to say... I kind of regret not going back with stock pads on mine. For $3K, I wish my brakes were not so damm noisy. I went with Gold Rotex on the front $175 and Hawk HPS ($155) on the rears. There is no dust but damm these things are embarrasing. I was convinced they gave me the wrong pads for the fronts but the Rotex seems quiet. Especially, with all the racket coming from the rears. Worse... the rears seem to be scoring the Disc Italia's I bought. I'm pretty sure they will start grooving. As soon as my tools get here, I will be removing the pads to see if I can do something... IE sand off edges, ensure anti-squeal lube was used.
My factory pads were awesome... other than the dust and unusually short life.

I wonder how the factory replacement pads wil be when the are released?
I sure do not want to ruin my DiscItalia rotors.

Are they cross drilled? Where did you get them?
