OK, so my new boss has an 04 BMW M3. I was talking to a coworker about my 0-60 time of 4.5sec and he jumps in to ask what car I drive. I told him and he was like "what's that?" I told him about the Jeep SRT8 then he went on to say that he would take me... I said ok is your M3 modified? He says no it's stock w paddle shifters. I said.... ok, then one of these nights we'll run them....so I can wake you from your slumber.
We then headed over to my truck to check it out. He said it was bad ass and had never even heard of the SRT8.

When he came back from lunch he had done some research on his blackberry and was impressed from what he read.
So my question is has anyone run this type or year of M3 in thier stock Jeeps?
If so...give me the truth...straight out.....will I win?

I raced an 03 M3 vert in my Roush and hung with him from 40-130. We were neck and neck the whole way. Race from a low roll and youll have no problems


btw im only making 251rwhp...and havent broken into the 13's yet

They run 0-60 in like 4.6-4.8

In this case we would go from the hole since he said he could take me from 0-60 all through the quarter mile.

You will have no problem! I have stayed neck an neck with one in my modded Mini S. He couldn't believe it. The Jeep is Much faster then a my mini. Make sure you get him from a dig!!!

I lived in Cancun and raced there. We had a local track that was 40meters short of a 1/4. A friend had an 03' M3. Very nice. He had exhaust, dampener and chip. It was the coupe 333hp version. I raced his about three times. The track had very little traction off the line. So I would instantly take about 2-3 cars off the line then he had to play catch up. By the time he equaled my speed and we would be just about dead even. He could not catch me. I would beat him by about 3-4 car lenths. Im sure if the stretch was longer he would start realing me in.

Here is a vid of my frineds Sunfire we Turbo'd (very quick) against the same M3. I beat this Sunfire by about a 1/2 - 1 car to the middle of the track then I would start to walk him. It was a quick car but fell on its face about half way through. Here you can see the M3 start to real him in real fast.

What I beat the M3 off the line I would keep it there till the end.

One time I raced him in High 4x4... I lit up all four tires, sideways.... he got about 1.5 cars on me.... and we stayed exactly like that to the end. It was a hole shot race all the way.

From a dig you will take him... from a roll prob to about 90-100mph I think it will be who gets the best jump.... I wouldnt race him beyond that. IMO

If he does not have at least an intake, exhaust, and software mod, more than likely you will take him. Attached link has some good performance info and about the fastest time ever run by a mag. 01 specs shown same basic vehicle as 04.

Also, he has an SMG set up. There are two things that can help him. He has a burnout mode, and launch mode. Most guys don't know how to correctly use these features. Unless he knows the difference and has practiced using launch control a lot in mode 6, you will kill him off the line and should stay ahead. If he doesn't use it, and just nails it on "GO" you should jump him by about 2 lengths immediately. It literally took me about 30 practice launches in my 05 to get comfortable with it.

pull you ABS fuse, just for an added safety margin, but you will take him!

If it is the same type of car I am thinking of, they run like 13.3s stock, but

I was neck to neck with him to about 90mph but he was modded. If hes TOTALLY stock you should be able to pull him to about 90mph or so. I think those stock are about 13.8 or so.

Remember to compare apples to apples. A Porsche Cayman is a beautiful expensive German car that isn't just meant to go in a straight line. It is designed for handling at high speed and built with quality construction. Our "beautiful" SRT Jeeps, with it's tasty 6.1 L engine, are built for totally different objectives in mind. After all, it's an SUV. I own a 996 that's not as fast as my Jeep 0 to 60 but I'll take the Porsche any day in a road race in the mountains where I live. I doubt that guy that bought the Cayman was looking for a straight line power machine type car when he bought it. I love both my Jeep and Porsche but don't try to compare them as the same type of car. Just my 2 cents worth.:D

You can't say there is not a beauty being able to beat a car that prob weighs under 3,000 pnds that IS made for speed and a true sports car in an SUV to the 1/4. Comparing a ZO6, an M3 or Camoro SS to 0-60 is also apples and oranges... we are just having fun, and I only shared an experience.....No need to get offended... Sorry those were not my intentions... ;)

Before your race, make sure you run with Traction control button to the OFF position (yellow car will appear on the instrument panel), then bring your revs between 1000 and 1500 rpm and floor it. More than 100 instrumented runs (55+ Dragstrip and Dashhawk) have proven to me that this is how the Jeep reacts the best. Last time at the strip I ran against a new Z06 and I was first to the 1/8 marker, he then flew by me to a 12.43@122mph, but on the street the GC can stay ahead up to about 80. This week I had a similar encounter as Awdrocks but with a 911 Carrera, again the win goes to the Jeep. I'll bet on the Jeep vs the M3 anytime.

E46 M3s have gone 12.8@108+ bone stock in good conditions at a well prepped strip. Make sure you run him from a dig, because at some point @ or over 100mph, he's going to start gaining.
If your boss isn't the most deft at working the paddles, you'll kill him.

All this talk makes me miss my '04 M3. :(

Laugh... This race will be quite funny for you and quite painful for him!

Race from a dead dig. Don't bother fooling around with traction control, RPM, etc... Just put the Jeep in Drive and mash the gas on GO. You will probably want to let off at ~60 MPH to proclaim your very decisive victory. At this point you will be at least 2-3 car lengths ahead of him and he will be wondering WTF. ;)

After the fact, you can explain how incredibly simple it really is... AWD + relatively large displacement > RWD + relatively small displacement! :p

All this talk makes me miss my '04 M3. :(
