: Navigation while Driving

Does anyone know how to modify the GC SRT8 NAV to keep full operation while moving? It goes into a limited mode when you start to drive. Mercedes does not do this...Infiniti does, but there is one wire you can disable that prevents the system from detecting wheel motion, so the NAV can be used while driving.

Thanks

I know how annoying that is, I was trying to find a place to eat off the highway, and had to pull over for it to work.

Personally, I'd rather have to pull over occasionally than to have a bunch of distracted drivers messing with their NAV systems when they should be watching where they are going. Afterall, it's hard to shave, eat a burger, talk on the phone, change a CD, put on make-up, read the newspaper, fill out business forms AND mess with the NAV all at the same time.;)

Let's be reasonable. What if your wife is in the passenger seat and you need to type in an address?

Sarcasm not appreciated.

Someone has their panties in a bunch and needs to lighten up!

What if there is no passenger to enter the data and some dork can't resist entering in a destination while driving? I've already been rear ended in my Jeep when it was less than a month old by a driver not paying attention. I got rear ended in a brand new WRX wagon the first week I bought it by a driver not paying attention. Believe me, this isn't sarcasm.

If you find a good car stereo place that does alot of good custom work, they can usually do it for you. 50-100.00 bucks. Had it done on my landcruiser and my old Lexus.

my question is this: Is there a way to play dvd's in the nav drive and make it play on the fold -down screen as well.

If anyone figures out how to correct this I would love to know.

With those drivers, believe me, it's probably not the NAV. It could be the iPod, the PocketPC, the laptop, the sandwich, etc...You get my point...

Don't get me wrong, I'm on board with you. I just prefer to have the ability to use my NAV while driving. I would rather not have Chrysler make that decision for me since their sister company does not do that with their MBZ vehicles. Very arbitrary stuff...

I think you can play a dvd in the flip down and have it come on on the navi screen. Same as before though. You gotta go to a stereo shop.

Yes, you can hack the navigation system.

Check out < link removed by admin> for details on this fix.

I just bought a 07 Jeep SRT8 and only had it 40 hours when I was rear ended by someone not paying attention at a red light. $1K damage. Well, I was pretty upset that day, so do not disable your NAV protection.

I have the in-motion Nav hack DVD on both my Jeep and Magnum R/T. I got the disc from a fellow member on the LX forums and it works beautifully. A couple of people were doing it and just asking for the blank DVD to make it happen (and a return shipping envelope) but then it started getting ugly with people ripping copies and charging for it, etc. Some people get all twisted with stuff like this because of the software issue (which I don't get because you already own the Nav and DVD, it's just a different version of the same DVD...anyway...) and distracted driving; while valid, we're all grown ups and don't need lectures about the dangers of cell phones, alphabetizing CDs, brushing teeth, applying make-up or attempting a leveraged buyout of IBM on your Blackberry...

The stock DVD "nanny" blows goats...

The admins will remove any direct links to this information as discussing details of how to this has basically been banned on this board. Just Google (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=lxforums+in+motion+nav+patch&btnG=Search) it.

My nav has been modified with that special DVD that hacks the in motion setup. Go to one of the other forums and do a search. If you are local to central/northern NJ I can just do it for you.

Its just a wire but im not sure exactly which one..... its a signal wire that recognizes when the vehicle is not in "park". Anyone know which wire this is? If so, you can ground it permanently to fix the problem.

I think the factory navigation reads vehicle speed. It's not like an aftermarket unit where you can just ground something and bypasses the lockout.

I'm pretty new here and haven't really gotten a feel for the mods here.... but my question is why would they censor links that might lead to this mod? Are they doing this because they feel this is unsafe/against the law? Or do they just not want links to other sites for the purpose of reducing people spamming their sites on this forum?

If it's because it's unsafe/against the law I'm sure a judge if he were to have to choose between someone using the NAV while driving or driving 177 down the highway during a "kill" he'd take the NAV everyday.... but I guess there's always those that may drive 177 while operating the NAV.

The REC nav unit (used in the Cherokee, 300, Charger, Magnum, maybe others) doesn't have a parking brake sensor wire or a hardwired vehicle speed connector. The parking brake wire trick works on some other units, but not ours.

The REC unit gets all its information over the CAN bus in the form of messages. Every now and then the car tells the NAV how fast it's moving, and if it's above a certain threshold, the NAV disables a bunch of functions.

So the bad news is you need to actually hack the NAV software to do what you want. The good news is it's already been done. It's not hard to find the info over at lxforums, chargerforums, or 300cforums.
