My GC SRT8 is already built and ready for shipping. The only thing I can't get a straight answer about if the Jeep will be covered under warrantee here in Japan. The local military sales guys are saying no but the headquarters guys are saying yes. I don't mind having to pay for shipping / rolling dyno emissions testing / tons of paperwork but I'm really afraid I would get stuck if anything was wrong with the Jeep... since the GC and the GC SRT8 are both new models.
I got a great deal... about $1800 off MSRP.
So if it is not covered under warrantee should I..
1. Suck it up and ship it over.
2. Cancel and pay a $450 penalty.
3. Try to sell it stateside.

Any advice would be helpful... especially if anyone has had issues covered under warrantee.

Thanks,

I don't know about the warranty, but if you haven't taken delivery of a vehicle then there should be no penalties to pay. Even the deposits the dealers state as non refundable, are refundable if you push them hard enough, because it is against the law for them to keep your money without you taking possession of a car.

I don't know why it would not be under warranty, dosen't make sence.I am sure you will be covered, there is no reason why you shouldn't.I would take delivery, besides if they dont cover it for some Crazy reason the $1,800.00 you saved can go towards repairs. But i would not sweat it.Good Luck!!

I assume this is a US spec Jeep being imported to Japan for you by the military??? If that's the case then you military sales guy is correct, no warranty outside the US...that's not to say it's impossible, but generally this is true for all makes...warranty is valid in the country the vehicle was intended/spec'ed for. I can't import a european spec Mercedes into the US and get warranty work in the US, I can't import a Canadian BMW and get warranty work in the US and vice versa.

Actually, most of the time the cars are covered. In fact the main military auto sales site say that it is covered.

This will be my 4th US specs car bought overseas. All have been covered under warrantee overseas. BMW, Chrylser and Mercedes Benz, although BMW limits its coverage to the minimum required by most countries... ie 2 yrs for Korea. The problem with this case is that the relationship between the military sales guys and DC Japan is not as good as it should be and DC Japan really doesn't want them to sell DC cars in Japan. I honestly think that all military sales should be run by the professionals. Military BMW and military Benz are sold in Korea by the official BMW and Mercedes Benz dealer. Unfortunately this is not the case for Japan... only Volvo has a good relationship with the military sales wing.

I'm still waiting for the final word.

Go with your gut instinct and remember a dealership will tell you ANYTHING to get your money!

I finally decided to cancel my order. Thanks for the advice. No one could tell me to my satisfaction that I would or would not be covered. I got all sorts of answers from all branches of Chrysler (USA, Military Sales, Japan) and AFFES Military Sales (USA, Japan, Yokosuka) and the local Chrysler dealer in Yokohama. Although the headquarters guys all say that it would be covered, the guys I would be seeing locally if things went wrong say they couldn't and wouldn't help me.

If any of you guys are can get a car through AFFES Military sales, you should be able to buy a black GC SRT8 at a deeper discount.

Now I'm stuck on what to buy... a Sube Legacy wagon? Mitsu EVO Wagon? An Overpriced J spec 300C SRT8?
I guess I could just start modifying the M3... although I keep finding myself looking at used R33 Skyline GTR's on yahoo auctions japan.
