The 2nd Annual Pikes Peak Mopar Car Show is scheduled for Saturday, July 31. It's being put on by the Modern Mopar Muscle Club in the Springs. Three of us did this show last year. Grocery Getter, Tom from MHP and me. The flyer for the show and info on the Club can be viewed at http://southerncoloradom3carclub.com/Carshow09.html

Hope some of the guys in the Springs area at least can make it this year. Vendors will include a Speed shop in the Springs that is reported to be one of the top Vortec authorized dealers in the Country .... maybe we can push them for a show special or GB?

Hope everyone has a good time...............

Damn Man,
Sorry you won't be there as I'm really interested in talking to RMCR about one of these installs. I'm sure I will get all the details from them but at this point, I'm more interested on you impressions of how they were to work with how you like the way it runs and if you have any thoughts on what you might do differently.

If any others are interested, the show is at the Colorado Springs Dodge dealership at 7455 Austin Boluffs Pkwy, in COS. Sign up is 8:30 to 10:00 and show will be 10 to 4:00 if you just want to swing by for a look (and who knows, maybe a Show Special price from RMCR?). Come on down!! Hope to see somemore Jeeps this year.

I won't be able to make it as I've got to work. But I'm also interested in the RMCR story. I called and left them a message saying I was interested in a Vortech and they never called back. Must be nice to have more business than you need I guess. Still interested in the details though.

As an alternative, I was at Carz in Lakewood Wednesday morning for a dyno session. The outcome makes me want forced induction even more, and they said no matter what I want installed, they'd take care of me. Certainly closer for me. They don't sell Vortech, but they'll get me one, or I can bring my own. They do sell STS turbos however, and I'm starting to think that's a better alternative for numerous reasons, especially during the winter months.

Hey Wink, Daren here...
I think there must have been a mix up with RMCR.
Mark and Mike (RMCR) just returned my Jeep today and I
showed them your message. They wanted me to let you
and everyone know that there customer satisfaction is very important
to them and they apologize for not getting back to you.
They have a show Vortech show special that is good until this Friday.
I believe Oakley purchased a special at the car show....Nice guy.....

I was able to make it to the show for a couple of hours and got to
meet some other very nice Jeep SRT8 owners, sorry that you missed it.

Finally, I would like to let everyone know that the guys at RMCR are
top notch and they have installed several Vortech systems for me through
the years and I would highly recommend them.

rmcr111@yahoo.com, give them a shout......

Daren:)

Thanks for the info Darren! I thought it was odd they didn't respond on such a high dollar prospect. However as I mentioned in the previous post, I'm leaning towards a twin turbo setup now. The STS website says they just released a kit for the Jeep SRT8, so no more forcing the universal kit to fit. Do you know if RMCR does turbos as well? I'm not sure if Carz has much Mopar experience, but they not only have the dyno in house, but they are a lot closer to me. But I've not decided on anything just yet, except that I want more power. ;)

BTW, how much boost are you running?

8 psi
They also do turbos
They do have a dyno but it is only a 2 wheel one..

I emailed them at the link you provided, thanks, and Michael responded. He doesn't think too much of STS. Says they had nothing but problems and wont touch them anymore. But then he's not a dealer for them, so I take it with a grain of salt. Carz took the opposite stance on Vortech, but were at least willing to do the install if I want.

They do offer some advantages over Carz. First they have a lot more Mopar experience, and secondly they are a Vortech Top Tier Install shop. He offers a 3/36 drivetrain warranty in addition to the normal Vortech warranty. However Carz has an AWD dyno. I assume RMCR has access to a local AWD. I'm just not willing to waste time or disable drivetrain components for a 2WD model. I always thought that was silly.

So you have 8 psi. Is that the kit rating or what you actually see? Reason I ask is I've been told a S/C up here loses almost half boost due to our air density. The Vortech site claims 1.5 to 2 psi loss in Denver. Did they install a boost gauge on yours? Just wondering how you know your boost. Also, how long did it take to install yours?

Sorry for all the questions, but it's a major expense and mod. Just want to know what I'm doing before I do it. I'll try and call Michael tomorrow as I still have lots of questions.

The 8 psi was with the standard kit pulley and was measured with my high tech
windshield gage LOL. The reading surprised me as well, I wanted to go down one
size on the pulley but 8 psi (peak) is about as high as we want to go. I know this
from experience, I've been through a few pistons on my blown 1999 Grand Cherokee.

I agree with you in regards to the dyno, but no big deal, they have use Mac auto
in south Denver for all wheel apps.

I suggest that you visit RMCR and let me know when and I will meet you there so
that you can see and drive my blue beast.

I've not heard anything but bad things about Mac. On the RMCR site they mention Wendz Racing for dyno work. It appears that's the 2WD DynoJet model they use. If those are the only choices I'll just return to Carz for the dyno work. That's where I have my baseline pulls anyways.

Appreciate the offer to check out your buggy. As alternatives, we were trying to get a meet/cruise together this weekend, but haven't had any response. Or better yet, come on out to Bandi Wednesday. Then we can see what it does on the track. That would be more illustrative, as that's the reason I'd be getting mine blown. Really hope you can make it!

Thanx for the invite, but can,t make it..my oldest son is getting married on Friday.
Very busy week as you could imagine...

The guys at Mac really specialize in rice burners. The guys at RMCR would just
rent time on their dyno and do the final tune for you if needed. The standard
Vortech tune works fine for me at dyno'd at 500 hp to the wheels at Mac.

Just talked to Michael. He agreed it was stupid to dyno an AWD vehicle on a 2WD unit. But he's used Carz before and would use them if I wanted it dyno tuned. He said they were expecting to put different pulleys on yours, but were surprised it was already putting out almost 8 psi. That's more in line with what the Vortech site says. He advised against dyno tuning, or any custom tuning for that matter. Said the pistons really can't take it. That flies in the face of what others on this site say.

The sticking point right now is the drivetrain warranty. It's void if I use another tuner than the supplied Predator, or have any custom tuning done. I told him I already have a Trinity and a Predator, so I don't need any more. He's checking with Vortech right now to see if they'll let me use the Trinity. $400 for a 3/36 drivetrain warranty seems like good insurance. Especially since they don't care if I take it to the track. Which I will. :D

I'll let you know what happens... Oh, congrats to your son!

Hey Daren, Great to meet you Saturday and many thanks for shairing your experience with RMCR and your "blown blue brick" as you put it, for test rides. Also appreciat the "nice guy" comment...... I hoped I could fool at least one person this year.;)

Yes, I did take advantage of their show special which is about a 15% total discount off of their regular complete install package. We are talking about installation within the next couple of weeks and it looks like they will need the Jeep two days. I'll probably stay down there in COS and spend a lot of time at the shop to observe install and try to stay out of the way as much as possible.

FYIW, My 06 has about 30k easy miles so I am planning to have all the driveline fluids changed & checked out by the certified Chrysler mechanic that does all the Viper stuff in this area. I will also install new spark plugs prior to turning the car over to RMCR. I don't plan to race it, just do shows and submit to occasional fits of road rage so the basic tune, like you have Daren, should work fine for me as well. The dyno on yours which shows 500 AWHP and 476 ftlbs should be sufficient for show and go.

By the way all, RMCR also is doing a lot of Camaros right now and if all works out and I'm satisfied with my GC, I may see what can be done with my 04 Vette. Hey, it's a lot cheaper than trading for newer stuff (about the same cost as license, sales tax and insurance on a new one) and you can get in just as much trouble if not more.
At least thats my justification and for now I'm sticking with it.:thinkerg:

Sure would like to see what one would do at Bandi first. The only thing I can go by is that guy with the sleeper Limited. It was a 5.9 he bored to 405 (IIRC) and a Vortech he installed himself. I saw him running 12.5's with about 5 psi. Once was against me. :o Talk about a mismatch! But he red lighted, so technically I still won. ;) But I'd hope it would do as good with the stock Vortech tune. Low 12's to high 11's maybe...

Hey Geezer, Thanks for the info and I know that you will be very happy with
your install.

I should have givin you a ride in my 2000 vette that I drove to the show.
RMCR Tweaked the Procharger and added heads and cam. It dyno'd at
about 650 hp to the ground, very fun car to drive.
