: What made you choose the GCSRT8?
Prjct86Man 05-16-2007, 09:22 AM Not that I need any convincing, just curious to see where everyone is coming from. How many are long time Jeep guys? How many wanted the baddest SUV (for the money) out there? How many wanted the 6.1L? If so, why the Jeep over the Charger or others? Thanks.
OurZoo 05-16-2007, 09:36 AM I got the Charger first and when one SRT8 wasn't enough to share between the wifey and myself, the baddest SUV had to come home with me.
2007GCSRT8 05-16-2007, 09:42 AM I would say it was a combination of the 3 things you mentioned. I think this is the 6th jeep I've had in the past 15 years. I had the 5.7 in 2005 when there was no SRT8 (jeep), and like you said, I had to have the 6.1 after that. Money was always a factor in the past in my 20s. I can say however, in the future, if there is a porsche, MB or another SUV that would blow us away, I would consider switching. But we'll see what I feel like in 2 years when my lease is up.

I have always had cars that made me want more. I have had peppy cars but they didnt look all that good and were small. So the stereo had to suffer.
I had Suv's that were bigger but very slow. A few options to make them go faster but I didnt want to do major overhauls to make them fast and handle good.
I had a mercedes that was big with a big trunk, but it was slow and there wasnt a thing in my price range to make it go faster. It did ride like butter though and was extremely quiet on the road.
So I always wanted the best of all worlds but could not find a happy medium.
I wanted space, speed, handling, looks, upgradability and a luxurious ride.
One day I saw this mean looking ride on the street. It was silver and had nice wheels and this weird exhaust in the middle. I almost caused an accident trying to get a look at what it was. I immediately went home and on the internet to get the info.
Which brings me here. The day that I saw it, I said "I have to have it"
almost a year later, I got T-boned in the mercedes and it was totalled.....
Best accident I ever had.
I LOVED this thing before I even knew that it was VERY fast. I didnt even know about the AWD til I looked it up. I joined every forum I could just to get info on it
After my MERC was paid off.....I GOT MINE.
Now there are some things that I would like to change about the Jeep. But they are minor(tires, interior noise, brake pads, driveline noises).
I can dynamat and foam the interior to get it quiet, I can change the tires, I can change the pads and hopefully all the noises will get a TSB. But I have the basics now that will not change. It wooks badass, it hauls tail, and I have space to do my stereo.
She's a keeper!!!
DRIHEAT 05-16-2007, 10:11 AM I had heard/seen the other 3 SRT8s. Looked at a 300. Then I went to the '06 local B-Jackson auction & DCX had a display featuring the Viper and the GC SRT8. I had not even heard of it before. It was silver... that did it, I traded in my '01 E55 AMG for my silver beast. It was my 4th Jeep GC.
gpfarrell 05-16-2007, 10:13 AM Well, I haven't chosen one yet. But I think it's next.
The Jeep's acceleration is seductive, but I've got a supercharged Mercury Marauder that runs just as hard or harder, so it's not all about the 6.1 for me.
I'm looking to replace our older BMW 5-series station wagon with an AWD wagon of some sort. Our's is a 5-speed stick and great fun to drive even when the kiddies aren't in back.
Used stick-shift Bimmer wagons are rare though, and finding one that ain't gray looks hopeless. New ones are Sixty large. Gulp. And after sitting in a new 5-series, I found myself not in love with it.
After sitting in the SRT8 at the Detroit Auto Show I thought... whoa!
A couple of guys from Marauder-land have them, and are very happy with them. The guy that developed the S/C kit for the Maruader said good things about them too. Hmmm.
I test drove one recently and was amazed at how much better it handles than an AWD Magnum R/T or Caddy SRX. Loved the suspension & brakes. Loved the toys inside. Loved how nicely all switches felt. Loved the subtle looks. Oh, and the go-pedal is fun too.
I think it'll be my next bluesmobile... although I think I'll pick red. Settling for an automatic won't be so bad with 420 ponies.
jlandbl 05-16-2007, 10:42 AM I wanted a vehicle with a sub-5 second 0-60 that had room for the family, could carry 20 bags of mulch, is AWD and handled well. I can't think of any other vehicles that meet this criteria at this price.
Got tired of the magnum 5.7. Wanted to get the SRT8 but also wanted a change so the Jeep was a perfect fit.

I second that!!!
timster 05-16-2007, 11:20 AM AWD for snow
I have owned Jeeps since 1999
0-60 in less than 5 sec
Looks awesome
my reasons.
Mango 05-16-2007, 11:21 AM Looks great
Priced perfectly
FAST!
Handles superb (for a performance SUV)
Nice Interior and technology features
SRT Engineers and Track Experience!
I can fit all my paintball gear in the back, and have a BLAST driving to the fields for practices/tournaments! Not to mention I can arrive in style with a smile on my face (great intimidation factor when I roll up to a tournament).
:)
YesOfficer 05-16-2007, 12:25 PM The thing that did it for me was that you have to look at what your getting for your money in this vehicles class. Our jeep is put in the same category as the cayenne, range rover sport etc.... these vehicles our pretty much double the price of ours!!! And our jeep will run all day with them if not beat them. I think that you cant do much better than the srt8 for the money. Oh yeah... it is a sick looking vehicle also. It will make people do a double take and ask you, what is that thing? Gotta love it!!!
FastJeepSRT8 05-16-2007, 12:25 PM 0 to 60 in under 4.5 sec and I can still fit my wife and kid and a load of crap in the back. :D My first Jeep was a '98 5.9 Limited and I fell in love with it. A mid sized SUV with full time 4 wheel drive that was faster than a lot of the sports cars on the road in it's day, it had the versatility I was looking for. I always said I wouldn't replace it until Chrysler came out with a faster Jeep. So that's why I picked up the '07 SRT8. I'm 39 married with a 4 yr old so the Jeep just makes more sense. While my 5.9 was slower than my SRT8, I could take it off road which I kind of miss.
Go~RillaWRX 05-16-2007, 12:33 PM Professional enough to haul clients.
Quicker than the subaru
Looks badass
Fills wifey's need for an automatic SUV w/ nice interior.
Being a 23 year old guy going on 30 (wife, house, carrer) this truck is perfect.
Jred22 05-16-2007, 12:51 PM Before this, i had a Tahoe, and have always loved big SUV's, and never been a fan of jeeps, and i'm still not. But this thing is too much fun to drive and the lack of size is made up for when i stomp on it from a dead stop, **** never gets old to me.
Prjct86Man 05-16-2007, 01:05 PM gorilla, sounds like you and i are in a similar situation.
Go~RillaWRX 05-16-2007, 01:17 PM ^why is that. Are you a 23yo going on 30?
Se7en 05-16-2007, 01:30 PM Fuel mileage. I needed a way to get back at my Prius driving friends :p
Actually, after I moved to San Francisco my Z06 got hit or backed into 3 times in a single month. Simply put, I wanted a Z06 with bumpers.

What field of Engineering are you going twoards. I am an electrical engineer but no degree, just work under a CA law allowing in-house designers to engineer under the contractors C10 licence.
Edit: I'm 22 as well.
Inferno SRT8 05-16-2007, 03:33 PM I knew about it almost 2 years when they were test mules in Michigan, had a friend calling me saying there is an SUV there testing in the Michigan heat running low 12's!!!!
And then I seen the advertisment of it in Inferno Red and just fell in love with the color and the rest is SRT8 HISTORY!!
kramsay1234 05-16-2007, 03:52 PM I wanted something that pulled like a bear and also had room to spare. I needed to make a move from a car into an SUV so I could also tow with it. Of course small roadblock being the location of the exhaust, but nothing that a custom hitch job couldn't overcome. Anything with a hitch factory just wasn't going to have the performance without spending double.
Plus, every time I walk up to it I hear George Thorogood "Bad to the Bone" playing.

EX-SVTMAN 05-16-2007, 04:49 PM Don't forget... you can usually count on 1 hand how many you see on the streets....
You see Porsche Cayenne's everywhere....not so with the SRT-8.
Bad to the bone.... no one believes....till they get in or get spanked.

Why wouldn't I buy this thing? lol. It's a bad@ss Mopar & a bad@ss Jeep. I needed something that could take on most all weather conitions & temporarely calm my need for an infinite amount of horsepower. Mopar or no car, baby. :)

For me it was simple.....when I saw this commercial over a year and a half ago, the "HAVE TO HAVE IT FACTOR" simply kicked in. I said the same thing.."There's no way did that Jeep just do that"! (and it was stock)
Remember this one Inferno?

Had a 2002 300m Special for a bit, pretty happy at the time with it, then got the US 2003 Audi RS6. It's the latter that convinced me there was something to the statement that " VW / Audi customer care sucks big elephant balls ". I had formed a new company in 2005 and also didn't want the headache or potential cost of the RS6's upkeep (40k miles over 24 months and it spent over 5 months in the shop) and so I happily returned to the MoPar fold since they had something that agreed with my requirements. (This was a significant change for Mopar's products since it had not happened in a while)
1) Sustainable affordable performance (Viper doesn't count, SRT/4 does, my old '93 Daytona R/T holds a special place here)
2) Enough Room for stuff (Computer Equipment, Paintball stuff, family trip and gifts at xmas)
3) AWD and ESP, really really wanted this bad, FWD with perf tires and no ESP don't do it for me in the snow (300m 'special')
4) Has to be auto (I'm near DC, around the beltway travel often is quite bad, 2'nd worst in the nation?)
5) Much prefer US make (pained me to get the audi's or g35x), love the Jeep brand too.
6) Given the above one of my favorite features is the JGCSRT8's 'sleeper' ability. Definitely my peeps that drive almost everything else (M3, ML63, Corvette, Mustang, etc.) say that they have on numerous occasions seen folks under estimate these things on the hwy and at the light, it's almost like having a cheat code on the road, I'd have to concur. Oddly enough it seems mostly the 'riced out' folks that need to prove their ignorance, hope they don't dent their coffee cans over the next bump!
