: HID help!! Quick help :-)

Ok...ordered some HIDs, got them. I went ahead and correctly built a relay for the driver side...plugged everything in nicely and got NO LIGHT. So, I decided maybe I messed something up. Just to test, I installed the plug and play HID setup without a relay on the passenger side, just to make sure it would fire. NOTHING...not from the relay-ed side or the plug and play side. I thought maybe I had fried something so I tested the stock lights again and they worked perfectly. Next, I changed the ballast on the passenger side without a relay...tried 3 different ballasts and none got me any light. What could be the problem? Stock lights are working correctly but none of the HID setups I have tried have worked. Please help! Thanks.

eBay? If nothing is turning on it's the ballast.

You need a proper 20amp relay, and it has to be properly grounded. Go to www.xenondepot.com and check out there prefabbed relay harness. It's fantastic and works perfectly. Are you sure you wired in the ballast and igniter box properly?

There it is, you need that.

The igniter box and ballast are integrated into one unit. I used a 30A relay, but I am told that it should be just fine with 30A. Moreover, I have thoroughly tested the relay harness and it IS working. The real problem is that even without a relay harness, just to test to see if the HIDs will turn on at ALL, they do not...so no light from relay HIDs or plug and play HIDs. This is badddddd :-(

I think Street WK may be on to something, but I find it hard to believe that I got FOUR bad ballasts in one order [I got 2 sets and tried all ballasts and bulbs...nothing works].

Even without the relay they should work. The relay just stops the flicker effect. If nothing is turning on it has to be either a bad bulb or ballast. Very minimal chance that you got 2 bad kits, like you said. Did you contact the seller?

Just sent an email to the vendor "flashplus" on Ebay, who has sold thousands of these kits to happy customers. I have tried all 4 ballasts with 3 different 6000k bulbs and NO combination works. Still, my stock lights work perfectly when re-installed. Something is weird here...

They are either:

Not grounded properly
Ballasts touching something metal? They need to be isolated.
Improper harness

You're sure you tapped into the positive terminal of the battery?

Positive terminal has red cap on it, right?

Grounding is what I am most worried about. The only thing that I have grounded, as per instructions, is one of the posts from the relay [don't remember which number, but it is correct] on the factory grounding post on the driver's right quarter panel. Any idea?

Once again, you wouldn't have to ground anything to see if they work. The HID kit should be all plug and play. The relay is what you need to ground, but at this point it's not needed because we just want to see if you have a faulty kit or not. 99.99% of HID kits will work even if you NEED a relay. The relay stops the "flicker" effect.

So what is the likely problem?

Bad ballasts.

That's why I won't buy electronic items from e-bay.

Bad ballasts.

I agree. I know it sounds unlikely that both kits are bad, but it seem's like that is the problem. Sorry man. :(

C'est la vie. Hopefully they switch them out for good new ones.

Problem solved!!!

The polarity going into the ballast needed to be switched. I simply disassembled the positive and negative plug-and-plug snap-in plug, switched the two terminals, hooked up all relays, etc...and it WORKS LIKE A CHARM!!

Hopefully this will help anyone else who encounters similar confusion.

Glad that worked, Sorry I couldn't get it all running over the phone for you. We had it right, they had it wrong. Well its fixed now;)
