: Safe mileage before going WOT??
ckehl 05-14-2007, 07:56 AM Hey everybody, as you know I just got my Jeep and was wondering roughly how many miles I should run before I really start to get on it. I had to do the couple obligatory WOT starts to show friends and family (and just because I was impatient and too excited:o), but other than that I've treated her well. Those few WOT runs won't damage the car too badly right?

I stomped on mine when she had about 150miles...just 1 time though. Now she has 560miles and today i did my first gtech runs....0-60 only (not enough room on the empty street for a qrtr mile). Anyway, I got my best run 0-60 which was 4.599 my worst was 4.8 after heatsoak took over(engine hot). I forgot to remove traction control as usual :D
So I would wait till about 500 or more.... just my opnion. I'm bone stock by the way and in fla where it's always hotter than 85 degrees. Love these trucks!

jlandbl 05-14-2007, 08:15 AM Owners manual says to wait until 300 miles for WOT. However, many have given in early and some WOT'd it out of the dealer on day of purchase. I personally did not WOT from a standstill until 300 miles but did WOT from 25mph or above prior to 300. I think you're OK.
2007GCSRT8 05-14-2007, 08:39 AM SRT enigneers have said drive it like you stole it in the chat sessions.
slow91 05-14-2007, 12:22 PM I raced my buddy in his SRT-10 from 50-145 with less than 100 miles on my GC...... ....got him by two lengths. Needless to say we were both surprised.
They won't damage it at all....Drive the hell out of it. That's what its for. Tolerances on factory motors are so good, you could probably run it hard from 30 seconds after firing it and never have an issue. Usually, they'll break right away if they are out of spec.
Don't hammer it when the motor is cold. That actually can hurt it.
vinsane112 05-14-2007, 02:16 PM i started at about 6 miles on the odometer---trucks tootally fine
TORQUER 05-14-2007, 03:03 PM I ran mine WOT as I pulled out of the dealership!:D However, do not run it hard immediately after a cold start.

gerreo_y_mato 05-14-2007, 05:09 PM i just spent the last half hour reading the article that AWDROCKS posted the link too. (i take my time reading)
I've been a member for quite a while but i never posted, (Bronx, NY. Silver 06 GC SRT8) but this topic is one i must post on, I have strong beliefs on both sides of the argument, but maybe some one who knows more about this could share their experience it would be really highly appreciated.

With a screen name like that...are you sure it's ok? Wouldn't want you to not like the answer and do what your name says....:D
Inferno SRT8 05-14-2007, 06:04 PM You guys are nuts, I babied mine for 300 miles and then opened her up, the first time was the best, I had that stupid grin on my face for hours.
Crank 05-14-2007, 06:13 PM I guess i got lucky out of the dealer with only 9 miles we drove home about 35 miles and then picked it up to 155. Lucky nothing went wrong.

lol. its from my military days. for those that don't know what it says it says, "go to war and kill." i wouldnt hurt a fellow beast owner. im just posting because i babied mine and it has about 3 and a half thousand miles on it (i barely drive it, im away at college all of the time) and i feel that its fast but the fact that i could have lost "2-10%" of the total power bothers me a bit. but now i beat on it every time i drive it, WOT all day long.

Ok ill refrain from the comments because I don't have one of those beats... :p You might kill me.
Well, I broke my motor in that way. My motor builder was Modular Performance. Very arguably probably the best Modular (4.6 and 5.4) Ford motor builder in the Country.
I asked him for "special" instructions on how to break in my new motor. And he said nothing to me but sent me that link. Its how he breaks in his motors. But like EX said. Don't worry about it... the truth is, the critical break in period are the initial miles. The manufacture most likely already took it past that critical point.... Did they break it in right on a Dyno? Who knows... how ever they do it, its the same for all STR8's, so all the STR8's should be pretty equal.
Or try this: Put your STR on blocks and Ferris Beuller it in reverse, get it to -20 miles and then drive it like you stole it.... ;)
