: Does anyone else have the OEM roof rails?

After looking over some Jeep SRT8 photos last night, I noticed that they are missing the roof rack rails.
Did you remove them, or weren't they included from the factory? I can't find a line item on the window sticker for them either. The the non-srt Jeep's seem to have them but i don't see them on the SRT's.

Just wondering if i should remove them or not. I would never carry anything on top anyway..

As far as i was told by the dealer, the car was delivered at night and cleaned up and put on the showroom floor an hour before i got there. It was destined for another dealer that took their SRT8 that was in transit a few months earlier.
I don't think i like the looks of it, that's why it caught my eye.

I'll take a closer look to see it can be removed and what is underneath it, if anything..

Looks like I am screwed, literally. There are two bolts on either end that are holding it down.
What does yours look like? I Wonder if i can buy what should have come with it and it mount right up, unless it's a 2010 thing..

Thanks man. Should have used the search tool :D

Looks like it will mount right up. I recall another member looking for the roof rails. All he would need is the cross members. Maybe i can trade him. I'll use the search engine this time..

Thanks..

ciscoios, your SRT8 came w/factory installed roof racks. Very interesting. You may have a 1 of a kind.

Hope they didn't stick a 5.7 in there also.

LOL!! If it is, it's the fastest 5.7 out there:D I started thinking about what else could be off on this one.

You know what, i do have one more item that has puzzled me. The traction control button, ESP (the pic with the car and tire marks) Should that be on all the time? I have to push the button to get that to come on. Should the Jeep spin the rear tires at all? Mine doesn't, it's sticky with or without the pic on the dash. I see some videos of guys smoking the rears, is that the early models?

The ESP stays on all the time you have to push button to turn off!

I must be slow :-)

I have to push the button to get the indicator light to come on the dash. Does the light on the dash indicate it's on or off?

by default the light is off, meaning traction control is taking effect (power being limited if a tire slips)

turn the light on, and power will not be limited, therefore you might actually be able to spin tires if you turned hard and then hit the gas....

Thanks for explanation. You would think they would put a slash through the symbol or something. I guess the tire tracks mean you will be all over the road. This whole time i thought that hitting the button, making the icon display on the dash, meant it was active. I hit the button going around some wicked turns figuring i was activating it, and therefore protecting myself. Good thing i didn't have any of you in the Jeep, you would have thought i had a death wish:D

I should have asked this question a few months ago.

I have the same rails on mine too - it was apparantly a factory option? In winter I have the rails on so I can mount a box for snowboards etc (don't laugh - the cars usually full of kids!) but I just got some neat cap bolts so I can take the rails off completely in summer. When fitted, you can hardly see that the mounts are there.

No need to be embarrassed at all, my Jeep is a family car too. Not too much light to light racing going on with a car seat in the back ..lol

Where did you get the cap bolts from, if you remember? I was thinking the same thing, but they would have to be secure, or we would have a leaky headliner..

Thanks..

Funny thing is, its usually my kids who tell me to smoke someone away from the lights!

I used some bolts I had laying around from my Ducati - they were originally used to hold the airbox in place, but I've seen various bike shops who sell similiar. Basically its an anodised alloy bolt that has a thin rubber washer under the cap designed to protect the paint but in this case, it makes a great waterproof seal.

Aaaha. I'll have to head up to AutoZone and see what they have.

It's funny what kids know and say. My 4 year old daughter tells me to "Squeek 'em" I do it in my RAM, but the Jeep doesn't "Squeek 'em" so she says it's slow, and the Dodge is Faster"...lol
