I've heard ridiculous numbers like $500? How much are you all paying in maintenance each year?

I will have to let you know on my next service but what I can tell you is that is cost about $1k when you buy an 07 with 27k and change miles from a shady dealership, then when you bring it in to a good dealer at the 30k service and findout the dealer you bought it from didnt change a damn thing and required transfer case fluid, front and rear diff fluid, tranny fluid, oil, powersteering fluid and a hand full of other nitnoid things... not only does it cost a grand but makes for one pissed SRT owner...

if you are a virginian feel free to shoot me an email and I can let you know who this crappy dealership is....

I haven't had a tune-up yet but I believe it. I know my dealer charges $130 JUST for an oil change so I can't imagine the rest. Check this out make sure you're getting what you actually need.

$1k? Wow...I am due for service as well (45k miles). Oil change is $250 but transfer case is only $150 as quoted from my dealer. But all the other fluids?

I spent $323 on the fluids alone to do my diffs and tc. Did the work myself but it's pricey for sure. The dealership wanted $17 / quart for the Mobil 1 oil it likes! I wouldn't drive anything else though! Hey, I like expensive tequila!

Not much needs to be done for a "tune up" and be careful what a dealer tells you about the need for a so-called "tune up"....

Ignition cables ... 60,000 mi.
Spark plugs ... SRT8 102,000 mi.
PCV valve ... 30,000 mi.
Throttle body cleaning ... (not required)
Fuel filter ... (not required)

Although this is an additive in Chevron gas, if you want to keep the injectors extra clean, use some Chevron Techron every 5-10K miles. Dealers typically use a Mopar fuel additive or injector cleaner when the RO indicates "clean or adjust injectors."

Keep an eye on your brakes and serpentine belt ... you may want to lube the caliper pins every 12 months as indicated.

The rest of the stuff mentioned in this thread are fluid changes... you can do that yourself or pay someone. It cost me about $80 to have the oil changed.

seriously guys if you have BASIC tools do it yourself and SAVE YOUR MONEY FOR UPGRADES! I did my oil, transfer case and diffs memorial weekend for less than $250. oil is $7.50 qt for mobil1 0-40 (you need 6) from oreillys. full synthetic 75-140 gear oil, $17 ea, you need 2 for front diff, 2 for rear diff. transfer case fluid, which is f$%@&% ridiculously priced at $52 a qt! and only available thru the dealer as far as i know. you need 2 of these. and if you wanna do the tranny too, buy one of the suction hoses that sucks the fluid out the dipstick, no need to drop the pan till at least 60k miles. so says a tranny shop. anyway, tools needed, oil, a 9/16" wrench, diffs, a 3/8" socket with extension. same with TC. if you can change your oil you can do the others too. its simple. IDK bout you guys, but $1000 to do ROUTINE maintenance is obsurd. grab a couple beers, a radio, ur family pet of choice, jack it up and do it yourself for less than 1/3 the price. i'm not rich, and far from it, so if i can save money, and maybe learn a few things along the way about our rigs, than i'm all for it.

I can't believe the difference in simple oil changes.... I paid $93 after tax for an oil change at the dealership (not even the one I purchased the Jeep from)

Now I am looking at a complete fluid change...I will find out how much it is and post in here

Damn guys! These prices are rediculus! If you guys are in the Bay Area I'll do the service for cheap. Or at least show you how for some pizza! The most expensive thing I've had to buy for maintenance was the special transfer case fluid, but other then that it's been about the same to maintain as my Civic. Stop getting ripped off by the dealers!!

For the trans case and axel,Its a flush and fill job ? You dont even need a jack. Unscrew the fill hole then the lower screw. Drain and fill it till it runs back out of the fill hole. 200 bucks on oils.6 bucks for the quart pump with hose at any autostore. Truck has to be level for the fluid fill. 650$ for that ?

man it's damn near impossible to f$%& anything up, and if you're really that worried bout i will post a step by step tutorial with pictures on every step for those interested. Seriously if you can loosen 1 bolt you can do this work. max cost for oil, diffs front and rear, TC, and tranny is $350 including the fluid pump. and basic oil change, $50-$60. those of you who got it done for $73 thats pretty good. honestly i've never paid anyone to change my oil and never will.

honestly i've never paid anyone to change my oil and never will.

I changed my own oil when I managed a service station during the 70s... it was nice to have a lift, drop the oil and filter into the recycle tank. After the good old days were gone, I used my jack with one of those cheap 5 gallon jugs to catch the oil and filter... then had to drive down to Autozone, Chief Auto or Pep Boys to discard the waste.

Then each family member wanted me to change their oil...

Now I take it down to Oil Can Henry's and pay them $30 to pull the plug, filter, drain the oil, discard the waste and fill the crankcase. It takes 15 min and I'm on my way.

Believe me, I watch every move when I bring in my SRT... and those "kids" love to shoot the breeze about the old days. I figure why not, when I was 17-years old I was changing oil, doing brake jobs and mounting tires for guys just like me.

As for the family... I gave them directions to Oil Can Henry's. ;)

I would be interested because the closest anything to me is an hour away, I would rather do it myself in my garage. So if it isn't too much to ask for, I would appreciate a step by step tutorial. Maybe it can be made a sticky also.

So I could be wrong, but I thought we needed 7 quarts of oil? Also, what kind of fluid is used for the tranny?

I believe the capacity is 7 quarts, but it only takes about 6 or 6.5 quarts. As for the TC fluids, here is a GREAT resource:

http://www.wkjeeps.com/wk_axle_tcase_maintenance.htm

I've linked directly to the TC maintenance, but they've also got all fluids and maintenance items detailed. If you do a google search for the part number of the TC fluid, you can locate online sources for purchase that are cheaper than $52/quart thru the stealership. Hope this helps!

it does say 7, but depends on how hot your motor is when you change it and how long you let it drain. did mine a couple weeks ago, took it to my buddy's shop, opend up the plug, drained it to a slow drizzle, put it back on, filled it with 6qts, and i was at the top line of "safe" on the dip stick so i left it. on the last qrt you should always add a little then check the stick. dont just throw em all in and be done. you can have "too much oil"

royal purple is good stuff, but for our jeeps i recommend the mobil 1. also, check out the link above or below, it gives TC and front and rear diff oil changing procedures. thanks marcjac, great info, and as i said, super easy.

I got the Mobil 1 0-40W at Wally World for about $6.75 per quart, and I went with Royal Purple at OReilly's for I think $17.50 per quart. You can get the TC fluids (PN 68001758AA) right HERE:

www.moparonlineparts.com They're a division of Westbury Jeep, who is a vendor on this site.

$35.88 per quart (vs $52 @ stealership).

The throttle body does cake up. I removed mine on my 07 with 30k and it was worth cleaning. The Hemi Shop @ Westbury Jeep does all the maintenance for me, fair price and also do performance work, superchargers, etc. AJ Hemituner & Jim (the writer) is the guy to see.

Let's not kid ourselves, maintaining the jeep, other than wash and simple oil change....cost mula! My Jeep will be 3 years old next month, warranty about gone AND still under 30K miles!

I've driven it cross country and lived on both east and west coasts with the jeep. Doesn't matter where you are or who you take it to for service (dealer or mom and pop) it's expensive. I love my jeep and it's worth it but SH**!!

For ex: I did a total butt wax back in May. I needed one new front tire ($500+), trans flush (trans fluid per quart was like $60!), throttle body service, oil change, replace front diff seal, service front/rear diff, fuel injector cleaning, new air filter, alignment/balance, clean brakes and a ton of other stuff. Final bill came out to 2K! Expensive but worth it. My jeep runs perfect like always! Plus, you don't want to break down in the summer where I live....can get up to 125 degree's!

I still have the original rear tires and replace driver front last year aka dealer messed up my original by puncturing it during service so they replace it for free naturally. Fronts ok for at least 15k and rears ok for no more than 10k tops! Will be amazed if I can get almost 40k out of my rear tires! That says a lot considering my beast was blown for about a year.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O24uIt5PvC8

I'm still running the original pads and rotors as well. I've got 35% left all the way around. Squeek like hell in the rear sometimes but otherwise good. I wanted to replace both pads and rotors but would cost like 2 freaking K! Checked around for other brands but felt the Brembo brand was the best after doing research and reading tons of posts.

In conclusion, the jeep is worth every dime but after I figure in payments, gas, interests, insurance, car washs (when I don't do it myself), maint etc over the life of my loan term....I will have spent around 70K easy to keep my jeep and to keep it running like it did on Day 1 when I bought it new.

With saying the above, I am happy to say it looks like our model Jeep SRT could be one of the only Chrysler models to hold it's value (couldn't have said that a year ago) so the upkeep is woth it yet again.

In fact, I spoke to a dealer over in Orange the other day and he said they would kill to have a used GC SRT on their lot! He said he couldn't order them anymore (waiting on new SRT's) and has 10 guys waiting to buy a used one if it comes in FOR TOP DOLLAR!

Ok, I'm done.
