: First Official * Performance Test* Today
EX-SVTMAN 05-09-2007, 08:07 PM Sup Dudes,
So tonight I decided to give the beast it's first official (cough) test of performance. I was driving back from Auto Zone (home away from home now) and I came to a nice clean stretch of road with no traffic and about a quarter mile or so long.....
So I turn off the ac and come to a complete stop. I held the brake and reved it to only 1000 rpm, (the Beast has 450 miles already so I thought what the hell, if it breaks it's got a warrantee)..... so I stomped it hard! The thing kicked my head back in the seat hard.... then it shifted at about 6k with no hesitation, pulled hard through second...then shifted to 3rd at 6200rpm.... then I had to let off cause I was approaching traffic. I forgot to remove the traction control now that I think of it.
Overall I think it pulls real hard and no tire spin just bolts! I prob won't do it again till about 1000 miles now but I had to get it out of my system.
next time I'll hook up my ****ty G-TECH just to get some preliminary numbers even though I dont trust that thing.
Anyways, quite happy with the run also happy there was no hesitation on any shift and the brakes havn't made any noises yet....what more can a man ask for? :D
EX.

Yeah, just couldn't wait till the AM though...lol. I can't wait till after the magical 3000k when the magical trolls that live inside the jeep release the rest of the horse power that hides. ;)
Jred22 05-09-2007, 08:29 PM I didn't spend a whole lot of breaking it in, after 50 miles I was getting 8 miles to the gallon.

i remember one of the car sales guy at tamiami chrysler saying the jeep breaks in at 1000miles gave them a laff out loud for sum reason. noticed the thing got faster around 3,500 though

I hate to burst your bubble, but there is no such magical event at 3k. Sorry...
zombiescustoms 05-09-2007, 09:38 PM My old man and I have been building motors for 30 years, and we always say once the cam is broken in, run it like its going to be run, never had an issue!!

FastSRT8GC 05-09-2007, 10:03 PM I also have heard that the break in process on newer vehicles is bogus.. I never would be able to do it even if it had to be. Foot to the floor always!!

This is true, the SRT engineers put an end to that myth in a chat session a couple months back. I'd post the link...but I'm kind of lazy today.
kramsay1234 05-10-2007, 11:23 AM They just want you to ease that much closer to the end of warranty with you driving like Miss Daisy.
...and don't worry, the shift hesitation will come...;)
HoustonSRT-8 05-10-2007, 11:48 AM Just wait until you get your first kill. ;)
srt8hotrod 05-10-2007, 02:05 PM nice drive man. wait till ya do some mods and then tell us how fast she really is lol
EX-SVTMAN 05-10-2007, 04:52 PM You know what....F**K it! I'm driving it hard from now on! I knew there's no magical release at 3k miles... Although a lot of owners on the forum have stated that it felt faster after 3k.
I think I'm going to conect my ****ty G-TECH tonight and get some baseline numbers.
timster 05-10-2007, 05:05 PM just do it man :D

Your link also says don't use synthetic oil during the "break in period" as it is to slippery and pervents proper wearin at the cylinder wall with the rings.
Don't all the SRT have Synth in them from the dealer?
Darwinian 05-10-2007, 05:36 PM Perhaps the factory breaks the engine in using conventional oil, and then puts the synthetic in before they send them to the dealer. :)

I JUST put my first batch of full synthetic oil about 100 miles ago. I just turned 11,300 miles on my new motor. Thats a little anal though.... Went with Pennzoil Platinum, next im going with Amsoil and their filter.
