: Test drove TrailBlazer SS last night.
I was impressed.
Nice sound, good power, plenty of options / gadgets.
I did notice what others have said about the transmission.
It really thinks for a while, before it says "Oh, you want to GO!"
The Jeep's still on the top of my list, but there are none around to try out, and even if there were, I don't think dealers really want you to take them out.
They were hardballing me to sign the papers right there, which I didn't appreciate.
I told them I was also considering the Jeep SRT8. I could tell they had no idea what that was.
So, I got myself out of there, and told the wife.
The payments for either of these is going to be large, and while she was concerned about that, she was more concerned that I'd get bored with the Trailblazer too quick. ( I have a history of frequent car switching).
I really thought about that.
I'd be excited with a SS, but I know the SRT8's going to haunt me.
I want to prove to my wife I can commit to a 48 month lease for the whole term.
I weigh the option of a no option SRT8, or a loaded Trailblazer SS.
I've got to keep the payments in the ballpark of each other.
Is a sunroof, and a bunch of gadgets worth giving up the greater performance of the SRT8?
you really need to drive the jeep. I too took a TB SS out for a test drive, I really didn't like the white tach with the rest of the guages black??? I put 40 or 50 miles on my test drive of the jeep. They threw me the keys and I was off for like 2 hours. I am biased because I bought the jeep but both are nice trucks.
Phatgcsrt8 06-14-2006, 08:21 AM I'd be excited with a SS, but I know the SRT8's going to haunt me.
?
I promise you if you buy the SS the Jeep will be in your dreams....Get the jeep.
El Jefe 06-14-2006, 11:37 AM My buddy has an SRT8 and ive gotten plenty of rides in it. I also drove an SS TB and wasnt impressed in the least bit. Ya the seats are nice but its still has the crappy stereo, crappy controls on the steering wheel, crappy gauges....etc. It has some power but there are plenty of vehicles that will beat it. There is a big price difference between the GC and TB but hands down the GC will beat it in every category possible. NO QUESTION about it.
Red SRT-8 06-14-2006, 12:00 PM I promise you if you buy the SS the Jeep will be in your dreams....Get the jeep.
I promise you if you buy the Jeep, the SS will be in your rear view mirror...fading fast...Get the Jeep. ;)
There is more to a car or truck than straight line performance. While the Jeep is quicker there is also a whole lot more to it. The overall package of handling, comfort, options, etc. make it a complete vehicle. All of the SRT models are that way, IMO.
Rob_06SRT8 06-14-2006, 01:19 PM Yep, Get The Jeep ;)
scottiekay 06-14-2006, 04:08 PM I also have an srt8 GC, and I saw the trailblazer ss on the road, that truck does nothing for me. The Trailblazer ss looks like a gm, as simple as that. I sold my 02 vette convertable for the srt8. I have been please since I got it in Feb. The gas milage sucks though... But the horsepower is second to none, and everyone looks!!
930chas 06-14-2006, 04:16 PM I actually considered the trailblazer ss, but could not get past the fact that it looks like a trailblazer with some fancy wheels and body cladding. I am sure it handles great and has good performance, but the Jeep SRT8 is in a class all its own. It looks incredible, it handles incredible, and of course it goes like stink. I think you woul dregret it if you were to pass one up and get the tss.
jms935 06-14-2006, 08:12 PM C'mon what are you thinking it's a Chevy? Need I say anymore.
danman_s 06-14-2006, 10:13 PM I originally had a factory order for a black, awd trailblazer SS but cancelled that as soon as I found out that my Jeep dealership had a red SRT8 coming in that hadn't had a deposit put on it yet. Even compared to the 5.7L Jeep, I was disappointed in the SS. The tranmission lagginess aside, it just didn't feel right and the reverse colouring on the speedometer gave me a headache.
Jerod 06-15-2006, 01:43 AM There are also a ton of SS's running around and very few SRT8's. You will be just another number with an SS.
Thanks, all.
I know, I know.
I'm trying to show my wife I can commit to a vehicle for a while.
Not a good thing to sign up for the TBSS while I know it's not what I really want.
I have problems with commitment too. Here is the last 7 years of new cars:
2000.5 GTI VR6
2001 Acura CL-S
2001 Lightning
2003 Cobra
2004 Ram SRT-10
2006 GC SRT-8
jinda 06-15-2006, 07:21 PM I for some reason think this is alot of money to spend on any vehicle.
You should always look at all options and so far I would lean for getting
the GC. I just can't see getting a GM vehicle. They had a 4-6-8 and it was
a bomb dodge has it and it's the bomb in a good way. The olds diesel was a joke! Dodge has a PT-C. and Pontiac has an Aztec. I also didn't like the fact that a major GM distributor would hire me as a Engineer temp $20h. even thougth the line men make $30h.
I just can't find a SRT-8 with no options 39k doesn't seem so bad. Everyone
is 45k.

jayeepee 06-16-2006, 04:50 AM I originally considered the 5.7 liter GC to save money, but am so glad I got the SRT8. Even the GC SRT8 base model would be better than a TBSS with navigation and sunroof. Don't settle for second best ;)
I was looking for a "stripped" one as well. More of a head room issue with the giant moon roof. I don't think you can get one without the group 1 package. Mine only has group 1 no navi no rear dvd sticker was 43,160. After having it for a week I'm sooooo glad i got the moon roof.
radduc 06-16-2006, 10:16 AM The Jeep is such a better truck if it's performance your looking for.The SS can not hold a candle to it.But on another note,If you lease this or the SS for 48 months you need to have your head examined. The lease payments are insaine.IMHO, If you can't afford to buy it,Don't get it.
HEMI ETR 06-19-2006, 10:37 AM Haha... some of these comments are the best!
Goes to show how someone with no experience with what they are talking about can type anything on a forum and have a bunch of keyboard warrior cheerleaders back them up!
All to funny.
Beltfed 06-19-2006, 10:54 AM The ancient 4spd auto in the SS is reason enough not to buy it......along with the fact that the design is like 5 years old at this point and going to be redesigned soon.
radduc 06-19-2006, 10:54 AM How so Hemi ETR?? Sounds like peoples opions, nothing wrong with that.As far as what I said,If it's performance your looking for the SS can not hold a candle to it and that is a fact. When it comes to leasing the Jeep,They are not making enough for them to do a lease. The whole purpose of a company doing a lease on a car is so they can move as many as posible being that they have mass produced the cars/trucks.The Jeep does not fall under that category, they sell ever truck they make.So there is No reason to have deals on a lease. So your lease payment is going to be somewhere around 750 to 850.In my mind spending that kind of money on a $44,000.00 truck is INSAINE.
jayeepee 06-19-2006, 11:42 AM Hemi etr - you don't have a signature, so I don't know what fantastic vehicle you are using to "eat hemis" with. Please enlighten us.

jms935 06-19-2006, 09:12 PM more like sour grapes for chevy.
Stripper 06-20-2006, 03:50 PM The TB SS does not compare to the Jeep from the factory. I own a TB SS and it is no where near as nice as the Jeep SRT8. The TB SS AWD is not very fast from the factory.................feels like a slug.

matts 10-07-2006, 01:06 AM not trying to start anything here, but i'm hoping with all the interior bashing that the SRT interior is better than the regular GC interior. i've driven one of the new GC and i didnt like the interior in it. seats weren't bad, but i just wasn't a fan of the dash. im not saying the TBSS dash is any better, first time i got in i thought it was kinda cheap, but it was on the same rung of the ladder as the GC.
BahnBlastR 10-07-2006, 05:16 AM Matts, couldn't agree more. Most American cars just don't have the interior quality of other marks ie; most European and Japanese (luxury) cars. But, it is still fully functional and the seats are just fine - firm and very supportive. Is the dash material anywhere close to my last BMW, Audi, or Mercedes (or even my old Honda CRV)? No. I think the American car manufacturers use rather cheap plastic. BUT, I can easily overlook that fact for the way this thing goes, stops, and handles. It looks hot, runs GREAT, and I am still satisfied with my Jeep.
SRTJeep 10-07-2006, 06:46 AM A local Racer was approached by a new TBSS owner at the track. (300C SRT8) His comments were awful seats, wind noise and hates the TB. He sat in the 300C SRT8, WOW these seats are great. (His comments not mine) Another Comment! Gene
mabosc223 10-07-2006, 08:35 AM These Trailblazer SS owners are in their own little fantasy world. I met this kid that just bought a brand new TB SS, and he was bragging that he was killing everything on the street. He said that his TB SS came with a CAI from the factory so he didn't have to buy one. And he said his exhaust was the best one out there (the stock one that is). When he was pulling out of the placve we were at, he floored the TB and he chirped his tires, the thing took for ever to get moving. And the exhaust wasn't nothing special. And the engine was completely covered with a plastic cover. I don't know why GM does that. I like to see my engine compartment. They like to hide their motors I guess :)... And again this is just my opinion, I'm sure the TB SS is a great vehicle for the money, it just is in a different leaugue then the GC SRT8. The TB SS is in the Little Leauge, and the SRT8 is in the Major Leauge. JMHO. :D

well you came across an idiot, every category of car has their own. does EVERY srt owner know EVERYTHING about their vehicle? why is the ss so inferior to the srt? it's a second quicker in the 1/4 and i hear it has a better suspension. i've said it before, and i'll keep repeating it, the srt8 is an awesome vehicle, but it's not the greatest thing to ever grace the road. and neither is the tbss. i think they're in the same league really, the srt group is just a little more performance oriented than the ss.

you're the idiot if you can't appreciate what nearly a full second through the 1/4 feels like
the ss is a fine vehicle but it is not in the same league as the srt8. the srt8 was made to play with and beat cayenne turbos. the ss was made to be a fairly functional suv that has more go swerve and stop than your garden variety trailblazer durango tahoe etc.
i would feel safe in stating that its likely every srt owner is well versed in the capabilities of their vehicle. there were only 3000 srt8s made and the nature of the vehicle (stiff ride, low tow rating) is going to shy away all but the most performance oriented.
of course the srt8 isnt the greatest thing to ever grace the streets but its damn close. for 40-48k you get a ride thats going to run with evos and stis while hauling you and 4 of your friends and their luggage in comfort. because of the power, awd, and auto trans the srt8 on the street isn't going to lose much at all, even to vehicles that would be faster on the strip.

do you live your life 1/4 mile at a time too? a second is quick on paper, but say "1 mississippi". boom, there's your one second in the 1/4 mile you just beat me by. that's a close race in the real world. if you raced a 911 turbo and it beat you by one second on the street....would you call that a close race? or would you say he absolutely killed you?

Do you consider being beat by 145 feet significant? At 20' overall that's over 7 lengths.

MatFab 10-08-2006, 02:19 PM Some people that come on here to talk are so ****ing stupid... I'm a chevy man forsure and thats all i currently own but i have alot of respect for these trucks and find the tbss to be a disappointment. I thought chevy was gonna do something sweet but nope another SS failure such as the ss silverado... just my 2 cents...
