I was sitting at Dog n Suds waiting for my carry out order when a father and son walk in and sit down in the booth behind me. I would guess the kid was in high school. They're talking about cars when the son says I want to remove the emblems from my car so that know one can tell what it is, like that one sitting in the parking lot over there. The father asks the son what is that. The son responds I don't know, but I like the way it looks. Then he notices the SRT8 badge on the back. He proceeds to proclaim: Oh it's an SRT8, those things are dogs. LOL. I thought it was funny. I wanted to turn around an tell him, "hey man it has a Hemi". :D

If the dad dosen't know what a SRT is, then the kid probably doesn't know what a Hemi is.... or what it represents.

No loss.. remember, ignorance is bliss.

Poetic justce will come into play some day when he's riving around in his debadged '99 Honda Civic, or '94 Chevy Cavalier, thinkin he's the reincarnation of Speed Racer. He'll have a ~$100 muffler, a cheap intake, and he'll pull up to a light where a Jeep SRT8...or any SRT8 for that matter is waiting, and he'll giggle to himself, initiate a race, and moments later call his dad, with his prepubescent voice cracking and whining about how that one dog of a car just blew the rear view mirror off his POS.

Yeah see I spud have had to speak up. I couldn't let that go. I believe in educating children. I would have had to load up dad and son and scare the beejesus outta them. I can't stand ignorance. Granted we are not the fastest things out there, but good Lord Almighty we are sooooo far from a "dog". They probably got into their Camrynamd went home after that. Ooooo.... but they might have the V-6 Camry though!! Solid! Maybe I had a few too many beers this morning as I'm sitting at the 19th hole but crap like that drives me nuts. That child is the definition of the "No child left behind" act. He'll definitely be left behind when he pulls up next to one of our "dogs".

I'd have said yeh its a dog all right, with a VERY big bite.

I think alot of it has to do with the town you & I live in. Been driving one around here for just shy of 3yrs & 99 out of 100 people have no idea what we got. Half of the ones that do have just heard of them but don't really know what they are. I've heard all kinds of things, like looks nice but I wouldn't have wasted my money on that body kit. Reply its stock, yeh sure it is. Been laughed at more than I can count at lights, but when it turns green I've always gotten the last laugh. Even it was something that could beat me when they see the launch you always hear the tires go up in smoke & its all over with.

Hahaahahahh I should get some vinyl cut that says "DOHC V-tack" and stick it on my Rig...... NOT LOL

NOW before all Honda lovers bash me... I can say that I earned the right to say what I said; tongue in cheek. I have been on both sides of the fence. Before my SRT8, I had a heavy modified Honda (2000 SiR) with Supercharger and NOS. Lots of $$$ spend and work done. Indeed, the car is no slouch and is quick BUT it is nothing like the SRT8 I have now.

Dont get me wrong, both cars are fun in their own way. DIfferent and fun.

I just came across this old thread and it instantly reminded me of an incident at my local dealership. I took my rig in Saturday to get a parking sensor replaced under warranty. After dropping it off in the service area, I wandered around the lot and the sales office area. One of the salesmen asked if I needed help and I told them I was waiting for my truck to get serviced. He promptly asked if I was interested in trading in my "truck" on a new "Challenger R/T with a hemi"! I looked directly at him and said "No, I need something a bit sportier!". He just looked at me and chuckled like I was some kind of loon. But, he didn't press further. My friend, who is a salesperson there, got back from his lunch break and we chewed the fat in his office while I waited for my truck to be repaired. When it was done I pulled around to the front of the dealership and parked in front of the sales floor window. As I walked in to tell my friend goodbye, I saw the the same guy who proposed trading in my "truck". He looked at me, then looked at my "truck". I just gave him my best **** eating grin and walked right past him. I wish I could've heard what he was thinking(=PRICELESS). HAHAHAHA

That makes my blood boil. I understand that not all people know a lot about cars/trucks. It doesn't take a ASE cert. mechanic to acknowledge a unique vehicle. Even old ladies turn their heads when the Jeep rolls because damn thing is sitting on 20's stock, with an aggressive stance, and mean mean sounding center mounted exhaust! How many other cars on the road have those qualities. I thought I would never ever say this, but I now know why the old timers with the 60's muscle cars get nauseous and develop diarrhea when they watch a hot import night tin can fly by...its because of the ignorance that is behind the wheel of that car. This new generation of " tuners" just dont know how to show respect...I have nothing against import tuners, **** I was rollin on 17's w/ clear corners on a honda in the late 90's myself. But the difference between myself and this new bunch is that I showed respect to the cars that deserved it. Some of these punks don't respect until they get it handed to them at a light. In the past 10-20 years very few car/trucks have reached potential Nostalgic/Collector status here are a few examples: THE JEEP SRT8 IS A PART OF THIS CLASS....(note no exotics here)
1. Toyota Supra MK4
2. Mazda Rx-7 Turbo
3. Chevy Impala 1994-1996 SS
4. Ford lightning
5. Buick Grand National
6. GMC Typhoon
7. Acura NSX
8. Ford Mustang Cobra 1993 (TEAL color)
9. Nissan 300zx twin turbo
10. Mits. 3000 GT VR-4

When I was coming up, I woulda bow down to any one of these things on the street... nowadays, people who call the SRT8 a dog would piss on them. This is not cool at all.

The following should happen to the fools with the ignorant comments:

1. The father should have his Man Card revoked ASAP
2. The boy should get his mouth washed with soap cause he had diarrhea from the mouth when he claimed the jeep was a dog.

** on a side note... I absolutely love this forum, I love reading the posts here, not only for the knowledge available here... but also for the comic relief. I try not to laugh to hard cause people in my house starting to think I'm weird. Little do they know I am surfing the SRT8 forum!!! hahaah~
