: Need some Srt8 Jeep 411
2KLEN4U 05-05-2007, 04:29 PM I'm new to the Jeep world. So I'm going to need alittle help from you Jeep Guru's:) What would be the best bang for your buck, when it comes to mod's for the Srt8? I just picked up my new 07, and I really like it, but it's to slow for me. Considering all my other cars make over 550rwhp. So what would I need to do first, and so on? Thanks in advance for the help guys.
Much Respect,

Derwood98 05-05-2007, 09:15 PM Okay, I will bite. I would go with a CAI first. It has been the consensus that the Volant is the best. You can get it from Southern Hotrod. They do a really good job. You can also add a cat back system. That is still up for debate on which one is the best, but some of us are holding out for Borla who should have theirs out in the next month or so.
There are many other performance mods done by many, but unless you are going to the strip, I would suggest the intake and exit as the biggest bang for the buck. Along with sub woofer upgrades and a few interior mods. There is a ton of good informaiton on this site. If you can think of something specific, just enter it into the search and research the posts.
Good luck and welcome.

2KLEN4U 05-05-2007, 09:27 PM Thanks D, for posting your thoughts. I was looking at the 5 choices of who has the best catback. I have borla on my vette, and magnaflow on the cobra, and like them both. I think I may wait and see what kind of catback borla is going to come out with. In the mean time work on the CAI, and search for the best mods on the market. And see who likes what the best. Again, thanks for your 411.....

OurZoo 05-05-2007, 09:36 PM Welcome. Other bang for your buck mods are modifying the snock snorkel, allowing more of a ram air effect and switching to a 383-180 thermostat, allowing the engine to run cooler and suffer less from heat soak. There's some others. I suppose it just depends whether you care to be in the 4s or the 3s.
2KLEN4U 05-05-2007, 10:12 PM Yeah I was noticing how foks are changing out there stat. To help the JG run cooler. I live in the south, and it gets really humid, and hot! So that would be a great way to cool the JG down, for little of nothing$$$. Thanks for chiming in Zoo!

AT'sGCSRT8 05-05-2007, 10:25 PM I'll second the Volant cai and the 180 t-stat. The Borla system with the loud option should be very nice, especially with those 5" tips! Man we need a sound clip of that system in action!
idealrides 05-05-2007, 11:13 PM If you're saying the truck is too slow then i wouldn't recommend you spend money on just an intake or exhaust, these mods are for show not go. Yeah they might give you a little more power but a supercharger will give you much more hp per dollar and will actually make the truck much faster.

2KLEN4U 05-05-2007, 11:17 PM Yeah, I sure that Borla will have a sound clip of there set up, which should be sweet!! I beta will be carrying a nice price tag on it to, if I know Borla. So it looks like eveyone seems to be using the Mopar, and the Volant CAI for there JGC.... I'll do some more searching over the weekend, and see who likes what the most. Then order me a kit this week. Im really thinking about some Kooks headers thow. Whats you guys thoughts on Kooks longtube headers?
Thanks,

2KLEN4U 05-05-2007, 11:21 PM I have thought about this, but also wanted to see what kind of power I could get out of the JGC (N.A).... I haven't searched whats on the market as far as super chargers, turbo set, and Im not sure if they make a Root Style Blower for it. I've seen where a few guys have put all the bolt on parts, along with a shot of nitrous, and run low 12's. I really don't want to treat the JGC like that, but it's def cheap horse power.
Thanks,

Can never go wrong with a set of Kooks,, Kooks is one of the best header companies out there,, Nice quality,, and if you go with a Supercharger or turbo type setup then youll be really headed in the right direction... sounds fun!!

Yep, as long you like CEL's.
...Kooks is one of the best header companies out there...
As far as Jeeps go, they could be, IF they could solve the CEL issue, something that should have done BEFORE they were released to market. But it doesn't look too promising or it would have been solved by now. Their standard reply to the CEL issue is always "we're working on it", and inexplicably they continue to sell this product to unsuspecting customers.
2KLEN4U 05-06-2007, 11:05 AM Indeed, adding a power adder like a turbo, or supercharger would be Shweet! But here is the problem I am having. I think I'm gonig to go turbo, and if this is the way I go. Then I don't need to go with any Kooks. I would have to have some custom manifolds made. So, I really need to do some researching to see what is the best power adder out there for the Jeep.
Thanks

2KLEN4U 05-06-2007, 11:07 AM Sorry to sound dumb, but what is CEL?

2KLEN4U 05-06-2007, 12:02 PM Oh, ok... Is this something that Kooks is having problems with only for JGC? Because I have Kooks on my 03 cobra, and dont have the CEL problem.
Thanks,

The JGC as well as some of the LX 6.1 models (Charger/300C/Magnum).
Do a search on Stainless Works. So far their headers haven't thrown a CEL yet(450 miles so far).
2KLEN4U 05-06-2007, 05:59 PM Ok, I'll check into this, and see what I find. Thanks for the heads-up!

Stainless Works headers looks like a winner so far. Totally agree with the 180 degree stat. Add a fan bypass (GSM or net-based mod.), or install the B&G PCM upgrade to keep the temps lower. Looks like Inferno's IAT mod. for the Mopar CAI may be a winner as well at minimal cost (did the mod today, and so far the IAT temps are running 20-40 degrees lower with better off-the-line response). Watching the Dashhawk, it looks like ignition advance is better with similar outside ambient temps once Inferno's IAT mod was done. Having one step cooler Iridium plugs, I can't say for sure that it helps outside of a better idle and initial off-idle responsiveness when I was still using the stock stat (203 degree stat). Hope it helps
