: Tires
Behairy 05-05-2007, 03:53 AM Hello, Our car is finally about to arrive (within days) ... Roads in Egypt are the worst ever so a stiff riding car with runflats just won't do it because of the ride :). So I Ordered a spare wheel and decided to switch to Yokohama ADVAN ST tires, I heard they are pretty good ! I have three questions concerning those tires :
First : Will the 265/50 fronts and 295/45 rears fit well ? (I heard they should...)
Second : Will these tire sizes dramatically affect speedo accuracy ?
Third : Will the Yokohamas really improve the ride ?
Thank you so much ... This is the most informative and cooperative forum I have ever been to... :)

Are you getting the export GCSRT8 version? Here in Saudi they are 8" all the way around compared to the states which has 9" width fronts and 10" rears. I have mine in for the second service and was complaining because they still have no spares available in kingdom.
Behairy 05-05-2007, 10:11 AM No, the car is the US version... 9 and 10... so thats why am getting a spare wheel
AlexT 05-05-2007, 03:54 PM You're picking up 1.5 inches in wheel diameter, so assuming our speedos are accurate, when it reads 65 you're going to actually be going 68.5.

idealrides 05-05-2007, 10:32 PM i'm running those sizes and they fit fine.

idealrides 05-08-2007, 04:02 PM I keep some spares laying around (no pun intended)
this is a front and rear, each with their own TPMS sensor of course.

spookyrp 05-08-2007, 08:24 PM Hi everyone, I am a new to the forum.:D I live in Brazil and got my silver GCsrt8 3 months ago:) . I believe it is the export model because it comes with the 245/45 pirelli scorpion assimetric tires front and rear.:( The jeep is flawless except for the tires. Those runflats are lower than the US Goodyears and make the car run lower to the ground. Chin scraches are unavoidable... I drove around 2.700 km and both front tires look like they have been driven some 20.000km or so. Both front tires have some missing rubber on the center. Very odd..... So... Does anyone getting the export model having problems with these Pirelli tires. If so, what should I do about it?

That's a common problem with the Pirelli's. I took mine into the dealer to have them replaced under warranty because I thought it was a manufacturer defect because it was doing it on all four wheels. Unfortunately, there was an open track day and I scrubbed off too much rubber for them to even entertain me on replacements. :D

MARK16 05-09-2007, 02:10 AM I checked with Pirelli in the UK and there are currently 3 tyres in the country ! I have to wait until the end of June if I want to replace all 4.
I have asked (complained) to Daimler Chrysler UK customer service but they had no suggestions for an alternative - and that's that !
I noticed on http://www.wkjeeps.com/wk_srt8_tires.htm that it specs the 'export' models as Goodyear Eagle RS-A EMT P245/45R20. Can't seem to find these either.
Might look into getting DC to ship over some US rims, but then I still have the problem of sourcing 2 different specs of run-flat's !!

The only place I could find the tires were from Tire Rack. It's reasonable pricing until you look at shipping. Then it's not much better than the rate you will find locally. :(
I complained to the local service manager but have yet to b*** to Daimler C X ... :)
parkstephen 05-09-2007, 11:24 AM Does anybody have pics of what these upgraded tires look like on?
thx

I wouldn't call the Pirelli's upgrades. I would say they are pretty much the same as the Goodyear run flats... only smaller.

On the front you will only pick up 3/8" in diameter. At 60 you will see 59.2 on your speedometer.
On the back 295/45/20 is not a good fit.Your speedometer will be off over 4%.That is not a good number.
If you go with 295/40/20 then you are right in the correct size. That will put you only 5/16" different. At 60 you will see 59.3 on the speedometer. You want to keep the front and the rear within atleast 1% or less of each other.
Good Luck
NitroCrzy 05-10-2007, 02:53 PM I sure hope I didn't pay too much but I finally found some tires... Picked up some Goodyear F1 Supercar tires... 245/45/20's. Now to burn off what little I have left of the Pirelli's.

It depends on what brand of tires, but in general you could use 275/40 tires front and rear... but not 295 on the rear because they would be too wide for your 8" wide wheels. If you still want wider rear tires then I recommend you buy a set of US-spec wheels and tires from ebay, they go for about $3000 or $4000.

SRTLoveR - Let me know how you get on with the diferent sizes - if you go down that route.
I've just been through the same things over her in the UK.
Here's the story - I asked DC UK about this size issue and the fact that there are only limited stock of the pirelli available in the UK.
There 1st response
Thank you for your fax dated 30-04-07. You asked whether it is possible to fit larger tyres on your vehicle similar to those fitted in the U.S.
As you stated your vehicle is equipped with 245/45 R20 Pirellis. Goodyear also market a 255/45 R20 Eagle F1tyre that is ****logated for use in the U.K.
To fit larger tyres such as the 285/40 R20 as fitted in the U.S to the rear of the vehicle would have a bearing on you insurance group rating and these are not ****logated for use in the U.K
On some occasions it is necessary to change variant codes within the vehicle's control units to adapt their parameters for the increased rolling circumference. I don't think this will be an issue if increasing to 255mm tyres.
I hope this answers all your questions, please do not hesitate to contact me again if you have further questions.

Then I asked if there was an option to have non-run flats and a repair kit similar to the X5. The reply was:
I apologise for the delay in responding to your last e-mail. I have spoken to our marketing department regarding your questions.
I have been notified that the Goodyear tyre I quoted you is not a run flat type. You asked whether a repair kit was available similar to the X5 using non run flat tyres. This type of repair kit would include a liquid solution to seal the puncture and a compressor to reinflate. This is not necessary for a run flat tyre as it is not recommended that run flat tyres are repaired once they have been driven in the deflated state.
I hope this answer is to your satisfaction.
The last I heard there were only 3 tyres in stock in the UK. I'm going to ask them what would happen if I were in the mountains of Scotland, had a un-repairable puncture ! Would they pay for a hotel room for the night while they find one of these 3 tyres and ship it to the local garage - persuming the local garage had facilities to fit run flats !!
