This morning on my way to school, i was looking for a mid morning snack, i ended up behind a new SVT shelby GT500, he saw me, we stomped it and and i held with him for awhile, later on down the road he pulled up next to me and we both stomped it from about 50, he started to pull on me pretty good up to about 90 and we let off, gave eachother the thumbs up and we were on our ways. It was a rude awakening... and im still looking for my first kill. Just thought i would share, and look out for the GT500s, they got balls.

With 80 more ponies under the hood, and weighing in nearly 1,000lbs lighter than our Jeeps.....why would you expect anything less?

Sounds like the "rude" awakening may have been felt by the owner of the Shelby when you held with him for awhile ;)

nice run...that's one hell of a ride to try and kill!
Cool beans on the thumbs up. I haven't run across anyone who wants to run yet. I'm sure it's soon though.:D

You would own him for a good while from a dig (as he spins his tires for a good second or so).

quoting from edmunds.com 0-60 in 4.6 and 1/4 mile in 12.25 and the car weighs in at about 3928lbs

12.5-12.9 is more accurate

those numbers are with near 2.0 60 foot times though which is an indication of how traction limited these cars are. watch out for them from a roll.

Next time race when it's wet out or beep and wave to him while he is walking in the snow.

Walking in the snow??? Did you ever think he might have more than one car?

I am actually looking to pick up a GT500 when the dealers stop gouging (although I am getting anxious)....and I intend on keeping the GC SRT8.

I think some of the early ones tested suffered from a "delaminating" air filter. Apparently the filter would flutter and cause the MAF to come up with screwed up air flow readings and cut back the power. Just a CAI and tune will yield 80+hp at the wheels on a car that dynos between 420-440hp stock.

How much are most Ford Dealers asking for the GT500? I have not checked them out, nor have I seen one.

Depends on what you mean by what the dealer is "asking". The actual ADM on the sticker and ebay auctions are asking $20K over sticker. However, the dealers are quietly taking about $10K over MSRP. Most are just sitting on the showroom floors because people are playing the waiting game.

My father in law just got one.. Maybe I can coax him to go to the track with me sometime (ive never been) and see how it goes against my stock ride. I'm sure Ill get smoked, but it should be fun.

Sounds like these things would be a blast to run light to light with. Based on the numbers posted here for the 500 we would fair pretty well out of the hole. With enough road the 500 would take us but so what, the fact that our nearly 5000 lb Jeeps can hang with cars like this even to 60 or so is just amazing to me. Not a kill but still a really cool story. Thanks for the post.
