: World's first bagged GCSRT?
So I was out at my favorite custom shop this morning, and my pal Jay just finished bagging an SRT Jeep. Sorry for the crappy pics.
Here are some of the highlights..... ZERO camber inthe back, minimal camber up front. Drops to within an inch of the tire hitting the fender in both the front and back, and could actually roll at that height. VERY impressive.

SilverSRT8 05-04-2007, 12:07 PM I love those wheels! They kind of look like yours...
Yes... I will get a full shot outside sent to me today.
HoustonSRT-8 05-04-2007, 12:43 PM How much clearance does the front bumper have?
When it's completely aired out, probably about 2 inches. But it would never be driven aired out unless it was for a photoshoot or something.
Crank 05-04-2007, 01:10 PM are those wheels 22's also? Looks hot im guessing you will be next to bag their jeep.
Yes, they are also 22s. And I will neither confirm nor deny bagging my rig next. Let's just say I'm not ruling it out just yet.
Blown-WK 05-04-2007, 01:19 PM Thats sweet! What kind of wheels are those?
squigmang 05-04-2007, 01:26 PM looks awesome. cant wait to see the other pics!! should let him know about the fourm if you already havent!

Same here :D
Gotta say, not my cup-o-tea. Looks WAAYYYYYY to pimp for my blood. Ithink it comes out of the factory pimp enough.
Want to know the crazy part....... the owner is a mid 60's gentleman with not another mod besides the wheels and the bags.
are those pictures ride height? or down all the way?
That is aried out completely. Ideal ride hieght will be about 1.5-2 inches lower than stock.
El Jefe 05-04-2007, 01:46 PM schweet!!!

Not saying you are or arent going to bag, I will say that you have to be extrmely careful. I do bags and I know that bags and 4wd/AWD dont always agree with each other. Theres a HIGH potential for Major driveline problems. Thats why I usually just say No to bags. I dont trust anybody elses work but mine and maybe a select few top baggers.
I may or may not confirm or deny that mine may or may not be seeing some bags in the future.
I've had bags on 2 previous AWD rides with no problems at all.

Maybe you're doing it wrong ;)
(totally kidding of course)

Yeah, just wheels is all I see, makes me dizzy them closeups. Nice to see another class of it out there, but I like mine just as is. I'm sure you'll get some complements.
SI_G35Coupe 05-05-2007, 11:06 AM how much does a setup like this run? does it affect the handling?
how high can the bags raise the truck? (like high enough so the front end doesn't act like a snowplow or to clear a curb?)
The highest that setup goes is what is pictured in the first pic. It's about 2 inches higher than stock. Handling is outstanding. Firm, yet totally adjustable. I'd take the handling of a bagged ride over stock anyday.
I saw the invoice for this setup, and it was $4800. Bagjobs are VERY wide ranging in cost. You can get into a setup for $2000, and I've also seen over $10000 jobs. The ABSOLUTE key to a bagjob is the install. Jay is one of the top air suspension guys in the country. He is a resource that many of the big name suspsion companies use for r&d and advice. He's done tons of SEMA rides, including 7 in 2006.
Anyway-- I could go on about him forever, but the point is if you want to cut cost, you could do it on equipment, but NEVER skimp on install cost.
2KLEN4U 05-06-2007, 10:21 AM SilverSrt8, I was thinking the same thing bro... Those wheels are "SICK". So how long did it take to install the bags?
I love those wheels! They kind of look like yours...
domeztictunerz 05-07-2007, 12:04 PM yea agreed with the above statements.....
I have been in the show scene for years and I just sold my show car recently. You can definitely bag an SRT for about $2000 but make sure you don't skimp on the install. When it comes to bagged rides... the equipment is only 40% of your set up. The other 60% factors in the install and if its truly done right.... it will work whether you use the top of the line bags and tanks or not. Just my $.02
Go~RillaWRX 05-08-2007, 11:35 AM more pics please.
It's already gone. They called me from the shop this morning because the owner was there to pick it up and he hates seeing his stock rotors through his fancy new shoes. So they called me to ask about my rotors. I asked if they could snap some pics before he left, but they didn't have a camera. It'll be back in the shop at some point though, and we'll get some more pics then.

I am getting more and more hooked on black rims with chrome lip on a black vehicle. Loving those rims...

Go~RillaWRX 09-06-2007, 10:10 PM Sorry Ge2...but its time to do some digging and telling. How was this guy's ride and handling w/ the bags? When is your silver beast gonna be clearing by only 2 inch's?
MatFab 09-07-2007, 12:38 AM never got good pics...
I never did get good pics, but I do know the guy loves it. I spoke with the shop about 2 weeks ago and the guy has had nothing but praise for the ride.
If my path crosses his again, I promise to get better pics. I can tell you that it just looks triple bad driving with it dumped a bit.

MatFab 09-07-2007, 02:40 PM I guess no car is safe...
funny thing is most luxury cars come with air ride... so why shouldn't this have it? better ride and handling and adjustable ride... hmm
ROCKST8R 09-07-2007, 02:48 PM that looks so great!!
aplatero1984 09-07-2007, 03:56 PM I wonder when companies are actually going to make kits for our vehicle.....
domeztictunerz 09-07-2007, 04:15 PM respect. looks amazing.

a-kon 09-10-2007, 09:21 AM funny thing is most luxury cars come with air ride... so why shouldn't this have it? better ride and handling and adjustable ride... hmm
Yeah but the luxury system doesn't drop to the frame, and a lot of them have air shocks, or a combination system. I have riden in plenty of luxury factory bagged vehicles, and I have never riden in a car with a comparable aftermarket system. Also, this isn't a luxury vehicle. It is a performance vehicle.
In houston, if you see aftermarket bags on a ride, odds are it is ghetto. (And by ghetto I don't mean cheap).
The jeep pictured above is a bag/strut combo. It was about a $5K install, and is far from ghetto, cheap or trashy. That thing will ride like a dream (like my expedition did with the adjustable shockwaves). The jeep is actually driveable when fully aired-out, so it's far from laying frame. A 60+ year old gentleman owns this jeep, so I'm pretty confident in saying that he was looking for comfort as a primary reason for the change to the air setup.

You should try riding in a vehicle without a "ghetto" setup then. Every vehicle i have set up outperforms the stock vehicle and with more comfort and style.. i don't see a downside and either have my customers.
And sorry i'm not from houston but nice generalization of vehicles with bags.

Yeah In Houston, They may not be doing it correctly....Over where I am things are different..
I have bagged many vehicles...But I have done 2 blazers that I owned. The first was kinda ghetto. That was due to the fact that I was young and just starting....Also I had other people doing the work at first...After being unhappy with the results I just purchased the tools and learned to do it myself...I eventually made changes and it became really badass but I couldnt change some of the things others had done...Then I got a brand new blazer...I had the tools and the knowledge by then....I fabricated the entire suspension from scratch and spent a ton of time engineering it..This one was Very nice....You would not even know that there was any modification to it unless you looked at it really closely...or if you noticed that the leaf springs were not there. Most people never noticed how good the ride was, simply because it always rode so nice....Some people told me that they didnt know blazers rode so good....I smiled and told them that they dont.
I could corner like a mofo and never had a problem with the heavy stereo in the back....It was Ultra fast going up and down....I had a belt driven compressor...I had dual fill valves in the front and dual port bags...the up and down speed was best described as "NOW".....I ran a tapered sleeve bag in the back which is IMO the best bag for the rear of an SUV...
It was By no means Ghetto......I utilized custom built bumpstops o keep it from hitting the ground.....The first blazer that I had, well lets just say that the frame was subjected to alot of abuse.....Dragged through the entire skidplate...
Airride suspension, When done correctly, is Very classy and will have many Plus's over a static setup....This includes ride and handling...And as for the durability....just look at the semi trucks on the road....LOTS of miles....
So I have driven probably over 180,000 miles on "AIR" in my lifetime...
I just dont know if I want to dig into the Jeep at this time....
zombiescustoms 09-11-2007, 01:55 PM Talk about luxury bagged cars here is my '60 Caddy vert, you could buy this car with bags from the factory, I just opted for a more modern approach.
Its about 20 feet long and with bags it actually handles better than with springs!
