: Rear axle assy (from boneyard maybe) needed for development

Any help on locating a used rear axle assy would be helpful. I plan on purchasing a rear axle assy (hopefully not new from the dealer) to study and come up with a workable solution for our rear axle. This would be modified with high strength components and a true positraction.

I remember seeing photos of a wrecked Black low mileage SRT8 JGC posted here a while back. Anyone know its whereabouts or any other JGC SRT8's that are being parted out?

Wish I could help, other than to throw out a YooDaMan.

This axle has to have other uses besides our Jeeps. I have looked over the axle and the only electronics on it are at the brakes, so you should be able to grab any Dana 44 and build it how you want.

The problem is matching up the front with the ratios. I wish you luck and await the info, since i will have to do the same!

I agree that we have a non-electronic diff. I believe the theory behind our "no spin" differential is totally done by apply the antilock brakes to the spinning wheel and therefore putting the power to the other wheel. It does not work worth a damn in out drag strip application though.
Currently I am searching what Currie Differential has to offer us.

My Operations Mgr. (a gear head also) has had good luck with these guys as far as a custom setup.
We will spin both rear tires and see if the front needs anything then.

Hey guys in the know...how about a 9" Ford center section, axles to match? Should get into production on these..Haa

The dreaded "two wheel peel" may be a thing of the past within the next few months.

....Bill thanks for all your help & willingness & $$$ to test out the SRT8 Jeep stuff.

I almost feel like I am nearing a stand still with the modding, b/c on my
last nitrous pass, I hit the button the instant I floored it, and spun.

Upping the ante will just make it worse.......

Keep us posted on the rear research, I hate to weld the rear together. haha
---just kidding---

Cobra..thats where a lot of us are, more power = not much different ET, actually slower 60' times due to the "2 wheel peel". I remember General writing that about his converter a while back..liked it but now spins the tires. Mine does exactly the same thing. I will try to make the rear axle assy easy to duplicate, not a total 1 of type of thing.

Working together, we can come up with one hell of a ride!!

I hope you can work a solution, but if I understand correctly you have spent
2K already for JY axles?

If you have done that for another 1K you could have already had a custom Dana 60 or Ford 9.

Jeff
Jeff,
Yes, 2k for front and rear complete axles. I need the rear for all the brackets to be welded on the new setup. Pioneering is a bit**. The guys learning from this will spend a fraction of what I am going through. I'll bet the brackets are not available by themselves.

Maybe when someone blows their rear axles / gears out I will have the pieces ready to ship to them.:D

I've dealt with them before and they do some wild fab work and innovative brackets (although they deal with more offroad work).
Chat with Dan and see if maybe he could lazercut and fab all your replacement brackets.

And I just found a writeup on the JK 44 axles with the new lockers.
Diregard the Dana 30 fronts, the WK SRT uses a little 7.9 inch differential, about the size of a large grapefruit.

This I think may be another area where you may have to scrap the original and just start from scratch, unless you spend some big dollars

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c96/Blown7/chainApr132007013.jpg

because this is a Mopar designed part the front axle will have vertually no upgrades available. Because real estate is so limited under the engine.
And half shafts too.

BTW this is fun helping other people spend their money

Jeff
Jeff,
Go easy bud!
There is a limit. :( Don't ya love some of these bast**d components.
If I do blow up the front assy, at least I will have a spare assy. ready to go. What could be done from that time forward is to pull the plug on the transfer case, thereby disabling the front diff.
Actually I bet there won't be much of an issue with traction by using DR on the rear (if needed) and stock tires on the front.
Boy this high hp seemed like such a good idea $10's of thousands ago!

Well Bill welcome to the "I think it can be done for a reasonable price" club.

Just to give you a idea what I have gone thru in the last 5 years,
I wanted a blown engine in a CJ 7, to my knowledge it has never been done before (kinda like where you are now).
It had to be "old school" the height of AMC owning the Jeep brand, 401 cu in, TH 400.
First it had to have a 6-71 GMC blower ( it's just the most visual eye catching blower you can have) then I wanted EFI not carbs, then you just have to have a bugcatcher, then Nitrous is a must, then the bottom end needs strengthening, so Carillo rods are best, then on and on.................
then the chassis has to have 4 link double triangulated, 16 inch coilovers, then the chassis needs to be lengthened ( the blower drive is just too long)
etc.................

To make a long story short I have close to 70K in this project and still not completed waiting for even more custom parts,
and I'll probably need to spent 20K more to finish......

So good luck and I will be watching your project very closely.
You sir,
are really pioneering new ground and I'm sure you'll have a enviable ride, provided your wallet holds out J/K

This is really exciting, and don't get discouraged as some problems will seem at times without answers. But solutions will come.
