The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is a vehicle commonly driven by backwards-hat types, who like to blast loud music and cut you off indiscriminately, as well as ostentatious chairmen of multinational corporations. With a new Grand Cherokee premiering in 2011, a void will be left in the lineup for those who aspire to the heights of a Mercedes-Benz ML63 or BMW X5M, but can't afford the fairly steep price tag.

Enter the 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8, which is expected to come with a new 6.4L Hemi V8 putting out an estimated 525-horsepower, and rides on a rumored air-suspension platform. According to a report by Car & Driver, Jeep is attempting to best the X5M's performance figures, which means a 0-60 time of 4.0 seconds or less. While its the owner's prerogative to buy a car like this, we can't help but ask "why?"

They used the same line "Can't help but ask why" last time when the GC SRT8 was released.
Great news to hear though!

lemme guess, autoguide editors can afford the fairly steep price tag of the Mercedes-Benz ML63 or BMW X5M.

enjoy your gray poupon :spam: and see you in the rear view mirror.

Good luck.

What is your problem bro? All you do is start crap. Seems to be your a douche bag. Great.... you own a $96K Bimmer that's faster than ours STOCK. Lemme put the extra $50K into mine that you paid extra for yours and you won't stand a chance in anything. Grow up bro. You see us going on Bimmer Boards starting crap? Nope. I hope they ban you for being a douche bag. Not ONE of your 9 posts have been ANYTHING positive. You just proved the old saying..... the only difference between a BMW owner and a Porcupine is on a Porcupine, the pricks are on the OUTSIDE! Get a life bro..... stay on your little Bimmer boards and the hell off ours. We'll see how long your precious X6 lasts. Sales aren't that fantastic...... why? IT'S UGLY AS A 90 YEAR OLD MAN'S BALL SACK!!

I can never wrap my mind around why people go into a forum to just be condescending and negative. People go into forums because they are passionate about something, but pissing on other's passions isn't beneficial in any way or cool. Whatever love or attention these negative types are lacking
in the real world I hope they find on the internet. I'll pray for the haters.

But . . . I can't wait to see the 2012's! Hell, I'm still looking and waiting on my current gen Srt8. I hope to have one by July.

Hmmmm.... I think I may have to wait until 2015 to buy a used 2014.

I won't buy the 2012 because it is the first model year.

I won't buy the 2013 because I am too superstitious. Hey... do you think the car industry will skip the 2013 model year??? Hmmmm I think they just might! Too many folks like me. Heck you still can't find buildings with the 13th floor.

And I am sure by the 2014 model year I won't be able to afford to buy a new so will be waiting for 2015 to buy a used one.

Glad I bought my 07 to enjoy now :D

those colpitis sufferers at Chrysler need to add some f/i from the factory already.

Harrison@Stage6
05-18-2010, 02:52 PM
That would be sweet as an option for sure George. I kinda like it being NA though. It's nice to beat on the F/I competition with an NA motor. They nned to do what Toyota/TRD does.... TRD offeres SC's and factory backs them. Be nice if MOPAR Performance did the same. Not EVERYONE wants a complete beast. Just 90% of us.;)

I am a happy panda!

Please let it have a good transmission with no less than 6 gears. Please let it have unique exhaust exits. Nothing standard.

If all goes well I will be scooping a 2013. Cannot wait.

As a former owner of a 2006 Jeep SRT8, and a current owner of a 2010 BMW X5 M, I hope that the engineers do something about the suspension. The biggest problem and the final straw for me was the crappy suspension that was far too crude and harsh. Also the AWD system was really quite crappy too, and slow to respond (compared to the X5 M certainly). I got tired of literally hitting the roof everytime I went over a bump at speed.

My most hated attributes of my SRT8:

-Extremely harsh suspension.
-Solid rear axle.
-Slow / hamfisted AWD system.
-Cheap hard plastic dash.
-Extremely tight rear seat.
-Not enough headroom.
-Tires were nail magnets (had over 10 flats in nearly 4 years of ownership)
- Front bumper was a real issue being so close to the ground.

Most of these will be addressed by the WK2 redesign.

However, even the stock SRT8 felt much more powerful off the line than the X5 M. If they do it right, this could be a winner. I may even go back.....

ITs the drivetrain that will tell the tale of the next generation SRT8. We already know its going to have a Hemi in it, therefore any engine mod you can do today, you can do tomorrow.

But if the transmission cant be reinforced, or the transfer case is weak, or if the axles snap like twigs... or more probably if every amber and red light on the dash come on when you try and push it mildly past 700hp, then we're screvved.

I really wonder if they put the 6.4L MDS VVT PDQ ABC in there, I wonder about the tuning. Wonder if they use an electronic l/s/d in the back what effect or limiter that will have on heavily modding them.

Not trying to start anything, but just wanted to mention my exchange with a local dealer yesterday and today.
I emailed them asking if they would transfer in a New '10 SRT from another dealer. Response was that they don't have any, but I can put a $10,000 non-refundable deposit down (ooh, really? umm, no) and they'll order me a 2011 SRT when it comes out. Wait, what? 2011 SRT? So I asked if they had any specs, information and pricing. They didn't know, which wasn't a huge surprise, but the salesman just called me and said that their owner went to a dealers/owners meeting where they supposedly said they'll have a '11 SRT "soon".
Anyone else hearing this?

I've been looking for a 2010 or used '09 nearby. I may have to just wait this out a little longer and see if we do get the '11 model.

Well I was just at my dealership and talked to the sales guy and he echoed the latest rumors before I told him. He said the feeling the the boss man got was that we will know more in like 4-6 months. That includes the ability to order. Now he said to take it with a grain of salt but it definitely sounds promising.

If Jeep doesnt put a turbo on the new 6.4 Hemi I am going to drive my 2010 SRT 8 off of a cliff. Ford has put a turbo on a 3.5 litre V6 and it gets the same torque numbers as the 6.1 Hemi, boy is that ever embarassing for Dodge, I AM PISSED. If the new Jeep SRT 8 6.4 Hemi doesnt have cylinder cutout with a turbo I am going to start buying Ford. Come on Dodge, make this new SRT 8 kick ass or I am going to bail.

LOL, just venting, my Jeep is way to pretty to drive off of a cliff. But I do hope they come out with an amazing setup. When you see a turbo V6 from ford putting the same torque numbers as the 6.1 HEMI it really makes you wonder. It actually brought a tear to my eye. It just seems a shame that with all that cubic inches they could do amazing things with this motor and all they do is add .3 of a litre and 50 more horse. It is a real shame.

I talk to a guy in Mopar Performance a while back & asked him if theirs any chance of them offering a FI set up...he did tell me he dont think so BUT! they do have a few Maggies in their shop that their playing around with.....LOL then he asured me that at this moment he dont think it will happen....Heck even if they offered it I'm sure it will be extremly expensive...I mean the mopar cnc ported 6.1 heads are like $2300.00..other companys sell their cnc ported heads & cam packages for that same price.Imagine what a mopar license(Maggie) would cost.

Which SUV in Ford's lineup has a 3.5 liter V6?

SILVERBACK

I believe it's one of the optional motors in the Lincoln lineup. Regardless of what they put it in I was just stating a fact that ford is now getting the same torque numbers as the 6.1 HEMI with half the motor. It just makes me worry a little considering the Cherokee SRT 8 is the bad boy on the block and I would like it to stay that way. Seeing a 3.5 V6 with the same torque numbers makes me just a wee bit paranoid as to what the market is also going to throw at the Cherokee SRT 8. I just want the jeep to stay on top. Can you just imagine a limited edition CHEROKEE SRT 8 TURBO!!!!! OMG!!!! I got to go mmmm to mmmmm the bathroom for a minute. BRB

Jerod
02-25-2011, 04:53 PM
No but I do think they are trying to target the BMW performance. The motor has shown to be underated. Based on drivetrain loss the motor is actually putting out anywhere from 500-515hp. The motor numbers are close and the 0-60 will probably be close as well.
