: Got a new Buffer/Polisher..

Just got a new Flex polisher in the mail the other day.. I went for the Porter Cable 7424 and this thing is amazing compared to the Porter Cable. Its a little pricey compared to the Porter Cable but well worth it IMO! The jeep had some light swirls in it from normal hand washing and this thing took them out with ease.. Whole jeep took about a 1.5hrs to do, Cut my time in half compared to the PC.. The Flex is also a orbital polisher so for you guys that have never buffed before it is very hard to burn the paint with this machine.. Its alot more comfortable than the PC, and you dont need to apply alot of pressure to the body panels to get swirls out like you do with the PC. Just wanted to share a little review for those of you out there looking for a Polisher. I will post some pics later

I purchased this unit after seeing it demo'd.
You can hold it against your skin and HIGH speed and it does not
burn your skin.
So easy , even a "CAVE PERSON" can use it !

fyi - get the "diamond cut" pads - one for polish ( soft) and one for
finishing ( extra soft)

This makes detailing the beast a pleasure.

It is pricey - but our SRT8 is worth it!

I bought a Cyclo last yr, & it's great for finish work, but isn't aggressive enough for correction. & the dual heads make it tough to use in tight spaces. I'm thinking of going w/the Flex L3403 circular polisher. Anyone use this model(or similar)?

I got a PC 7424xp paid about 250 for it & 13 pads, 2 each of 6 different & 1 most agressive. Thing does an amazing job but it takes longer to tape the jeep off then anything else.

the 7424xp is nice, my buddy has one... but no comparison to the flex. he used my flex last night, said he's putting his PC on ebay.

I was looking at the cyclo, but was hesitant about the dual heads.

It's a very nice tool, but the dual 4" pads make it near impossible to get in tight spaces. It's all aluminum body & made in the USA.

I find that something small would work best, especially w/all the curves/ridges our Jeeps have(the roof...).

I use Meguiar's 105 ultra cut compound For scratches (yellow pad), Meguiar's 205 Ultra finishing compound on swirls (orange pad) finish with a coat of Meguiar's machine glaze (black pad), then a coat of Show car glaze (red pad)

If you're thinking of Flex vs PC go for the flex. It has way more cleaning power.

Here's a detail I did with my Flex-

105/205 seems to be a VERY popular combo. I am going to have to try it out this summer.

The Flex has just a little more power.
If $ is a issue you can't go wrong with the PC7424XP
105 / 205 is a great combo, FWIW optimum is coming out soon with spray polish.

No doubt you can correct w/a Cyclo. I did, & it took me forever. Yellow pad coarse cut... I had bad water spots.:)

Yellow pads and some good product and it'll correct like a mofo.

Great topic. I've been trying to decide about a polisher so I appreciate the info. Since you've had both of the polishers that I'm considering is the main advantage of the Flex over the PC the power as was mentioned or the ergonomics or?

Thanks

I have the Flex XC 3401 VRG

Flex has much higher torque, which requires less pressure to work and lee work involved.

I think Flex is 100 times better than PC; but it doesn't mean Flex is ultimate.. It is heavier than PC and can deliver more vibration on your hand.. which can give you more stress for over time

I picked up the shurhold 3100 one from Autozone the other day and I am very happy with it. I have a dewalt rotary but it scares with my black truck.
