: What do you use to clean your stock wheels?
king9988 04-18-2010, 09:22 PM Not sure if this is an old topic or not, but I searched and couldn't find anything. I was thinking about using a Mother's Powerball and then use a good chrome polish. Any suggestions?
Just used warm, soapy water the first time I washed the car then towel dried.
RIDKLIS 04-18-2010, 09:27 PM well the wheels aren't chrome, so I'm not sure about a chrome polish bro.
I picked up a very soft bristled brush today and washed them with warm water and soap. Dried with a towel. Worked great. It allowed me to get in behind the spokes and do a thorough job. Since you have a 2010, you have durabrite, meaning dirt and grime doesn't stick as badly.
Derwood98 04-18-2010, 09:28 PM Soap, water and a lot of elbow grease. :D A clay bar and wax every so often doesn't hurt.
Crookster777 04-18-2010, 09:32 PM I use Meguiars Hot Rims Foaming Cleaner. It says on the bottle, safe for all finishes. And I bought a separate small brush to clean the inside of the wheels. Dont use this brush on the face of the rims. Spray on the rim cleaner on the inside and agitate with the brush. Then just spray the cleaner on the rim and then rinse.
Oh and buy Westley's Bleach white for your tires. Spray on to remove all crap that is on the tire and this way it leaves a great prepped surface for your tire shine.

Make sure you only get that Westley's on the tire!
Then twice a year, clay bar, polish and wax your rims.
Happy Jeeping and happy cleaning! :D

I believe you have a 2010... therefore, I would follow the instructions as indicated on the Alcoa Web site.
CentralTexHemi 04-18-2010, 10:43 PM I would only clean our wheels with a soap that has a low PH like Meguirs Gold Class shampoo and a Microfiber sponge. Do not use any type of brush it will scratch them. You can use some PS21 Gel to break off the dirt but do not let it dry on there and hit it with a high pressure hose when removing. As mentioned before clay barring them is okay every so often just make sure its a new clay bar. Once dry hit them with your choice of detail spray (which will help with brake dust) but also remove any left over water spots, I have found it easier to hit the lug nut areas with my air hose to keep water from running out after drying.
YoungMedic23 04-18-2010, 11:01 PM Cleaned my with chrome plating.....now I only need soap and water
J&D's SRT's 04-18-2010, 11:14 PM Wife's durabrites took quite a hit this past winter. Used a clay bar & they look pretty good again but not perfect. Everytime I clean them they tend to be looking better & better. I did discover that with the durabrites you can actually scrub pretty hard with a microfiber & do no damage, don't think I'd use a brush unless it was very soft. She has one rim that has a bit of shall we say crub rash on it, not to bad about 8" long by an 1/8" right on the lip. Used the dremel & smoothed it out not to noticable. But that rim is great for testing things on as I'm not yet sure about spending 900 on a new one. Now on my old 08 was early so had the non alcoa 06 07 rims the clear coat on them seemed to get micro scratchs in them just looking at them.
king9988 04-19-2010, 10:31 AM Thanks everyone! Just picked up the Cleaning & maintenance care off of the Alcoa website for the Dura-Bright wheels. Also found this piece from an article on the internet:
Wash the wheels with plain dish soap or car wash detergent and water if you use Alcoa's Dura-Bright Wheels. These specialty wheels are coated and should not be cleaned with either Alcoa's Aluminum Care System or PDQ Polish. Spray with water and wipe down with a sponge or rag moistened with a soap and water solution. Pay special attention to the grooves and corners of the wheel where dirt and road grime tend to accumulate. Rinse with plain water and allow to air dry. Alcoa boasts that its Dura-Bright wheels maintain their original shine after hundreds of ordinary washings.
Nice to know they can stay looking new with just some soap, water and elbow grease!
Limey Hooligan 04-19-2010, 05:25 PM I just bought some Black Magic wheel cleaner, gonna try it out this weekend. Supposed to be safe on all wheel types and non-scrubbing.
