: What's up with my truck, 5 sec 0-60
diesel123 04-18-2010, 06:25 PM I'm getting frustrated, hopefully you guys help with some answers .
I traded an 08 srt for an 09 about 7 moths ago. I thought it felt slower but thought it was due to not being broken in(2 miles on it). It now has 6k on it. I have held off from asking you guys until I compiled many 0-60 runs in the same place..no 1/4 runs, I don't get out of Chicago much. I'm all stock with a volant. I have tried in different places as well with no better results.
best 0-60 4.6 with kN drop in 1/4 tank..4.6 with volant almost empty.
those are my best, most of the time is a 4.9 or 5. I'm sure a tune will help, just would like to know if there is any thing I can do to get the stock 4.3 - 4.5 times others have posted.
Did I get a factory wuss?
SLVRLTNG 04-18-2010, 07:31 PM the weather has alot to do with it. The time difference you are talking about 4.5 to 4.6 is pretty miniscule IMO. Many factors, tire pressure, moon size, tides, planet alignment etc. etc. :D :D
just my $.02
RIDKLIS 04-18-2010, 08:04 PM dude i've mostly ran 4.9's stock
diesel123 04-18-2010, 08:40 PM I agree 4.5 to 4.6 is nothing but 4.5 to 5 seems like a lot. most stock times I see are 4.4
It seems I would have to pick up .5 with a tune to get back to stock numbers. also kinda bummed the volant did nothing, even though I didn't expect much. a tenth would have been nice for $300
RIDKLIS 04-18-2010, 08:42 PM my tests haven't been on good straightaways I must admit. I need to give it a real go
diesel123 04-18-2010, 08:54 PM let me know when you do.. I have a feeling you will be under 4.9.. I hate thinking my 08 was faster, it felt it. any idea what a tenth equals in car lengths to 60.. I have a new SHO in my neighborhood, I wouldn't want to get beat.

Hey Adam! Haven't seen you on here in a while bro. What you need is a nice CMR Tune and that will put you in 4.0 to 4.3 range. I have done 0 to 60 in 4.0 to 4.1 with my Jeep. Let me know if you want to hook up one day and I will take you for a ride. When I drive my Jeep stock its a world of difference compared to my CMR Tuned Jeep. I would also do the twin Snorkel on that Volant to keep the IAT Temps down as they tend to climb up in bumper to bumper traffic.
Crookster777 04-18-2010, 09:38 PM 4.4 here stock. :D

+1 on doing the twin snorkel mod.... that will help. The Volant box sucks up hot air otherwise.
RIDKLIS 04-18-2010, 10:05 PM tomorrow I'll get back with results. I'm seriously wondering now.
Lawrenzo505 04-18-2010, 10:46 PM 4.4 bone stock here as well- without really trying:D
pjs1965 04-19-2010, 12:36 PM My best stock was 4.6, I could clip off a 4.7/4.8 at any time and occasionally did those 5.0/5.1 when it was REALLY HOT out.
With the CMR tune I ran 4.4 - 4.6 at any time and a best 4.3 0-60.
With the CMR + CAI I run 4.3/4.4 at any time and a best 4.2 (with alot of wheelspin). I can't get a clean launch right now but I think it has a 4.1 in her if not a 4.0 0-60 w/out wheelspin.
There's many variables that will kill your 0-60 times. Weather, road conditions (looks flat but is it?), gas (winter gas blends SUCK big time). Also if I use D and leave ESP on, I'm always .2 slower -- perhaps that's it?
hope this helps.
HoustonHemi 04-19-2010, 12:55 PM I was able to get repeatable 4.3s in my stock 08 but that is measured with an iPhone dyno app so I really don't know how accurate that is. Temps at or below 40degF.

I have always run it o nthe same spot and I do it in 1st gear and let the Jeep shift on its own, plus I have ESP off Peter. I have run a few 3.89's, but run a constant 4.1 Zero to 60 MPH. This has been in 40*F and under weather. Not sure what I will run when it gets warmer tho.
RIDKLIS 04-19-2010, 03:58 PM So I went ahead and gave it a true test. I left ESP on and just mashed it from the dig.
Made it to 60 in 4.4 seconds. So I guess I was wrong. Sorry man
BOYCHIKS 04-19-2010, 04:00 PM What color do you have? haha
It is probably the weather; like someone said, that has a lot to do with it...

It sure it but I said 4.5 to 4.6 :D :D
HoustonHemi 04-19-2010, 06:20 PM OP: What altitude are you at and what temps outside? I could see 1000 or so feet and 30 degrees making a big difference. Also have you gotten the same results in both directions on the same road? Might not be level.

He is in Chicago almost at Sea level I believe.

Ops My bad :D
steveo 04-19-2010, 07:18 PM I finally used the EVIC to see a few 0-60 times. Both runs were 4.8 with ESP on/ NOT using auto stick. I am a little disappointed. Thoughts???
eddiefig 04-19-2010, 08:22 PM Do you have the right color? Black is the fastest. Lol.
diesel123 04-19-2010, 08:34 PM Thanks for the input, Just what I thought.. My truck is slow compared to others. I'm pretty bummed. Is it possible something got tweaked when putting on the Volant or something wrong with the stock tune. I had taken it in to the dealer after about month, it was hesitating when I started it. Not sure what they did to fix it.
I hate thinking I'm going spend money on a tune to get down to 4.4
Steveo, modern blue must be the slow color.

Doubt it's the Volant, but the vehicle needs to adjust to it. When I installed mine my 60 times went down. Then I went out and ran it real aggressively one afternoon and things got better again. But you say you had it at the dealer. Did they re-flash it? I'd call them and ask. My dealer did, and my truck ran really crappy afterwards. However I sent that tune to MHP and Andy got me back to where it was supposed to be. I don't think all the dealers keep their revisions up to date, or possibly the tune got corrupted during the flash. Either way, if they did flash it, that would be where I'd start looking.
A CMR tune will definitely help though.
And guys, don't feel bad about your times. I'm at 6000 ft, and even with the Volant, cat-back, and CMR tune, my best 0-60 is 5.0...
Talk about E.T. envy... :(
wink
diesel123 04-19-2010, 09:20 PM I will give them a call and see about the re-flash. It would be great if they can fix it. Any thoughts on what to tell them to ensure a re-flash..I'm not sure they'll go for "it's not fast enough" the service manager can be an ...hole. techs are great though.

That's too bad! It's the opposite at my dealer. The service manager has no problem with mods. He recommended the Volant, said he'd hook me up with the dyno place they use, and encouraged me to go to the track. When the salesman introduced me he came out laughing "so you're the guy that wants more hp from your SRT?" Not so crazy about the techs though...
But first I'd ask if they flashed it. If not, then that may not be the issue. But you could always ask them to re-flash it again. Who knows? I'd also ask if they've got the latest software version for their scan tool. Even if they flash it I recommend you drive it aggressively afterwards.
Good luck!

if they re-flashed it there would be a new calibration sticker under the hood for future reference

Hmmm... Well I know they flashed mine, but I just went and checked. No new stickers anywhere under the hood. I did find my damn radiator cap has finally succumbed to the dreaded spray all over problem. You'd think after all these year they would've fixed something as trivial as this.

Doc75 04-21-2010, 06:05 PM 4.4secs bone stock too
cyanideg 04-21-2010, 09:20 PM 4.4secs bone stock too
Hard to believe... Im only getting 4.6 best with all my additions. WTF

For me too......repeated the time 3 times, twice consecutively and one other time. Admittedly it was early on about 3k miles into ownership. Did a 4.6 yesterday though.....think of it as luck.......and I'm sure your quarter mile times would be wayyyyyy better than mine:)
