I was wondering since I have a new Jeep, can I spray down the interior with some type of protectant for the seats/trim/headliner (Scotch guard maybe??) The dealer was offering an auto armor (http://www.ecpinc.net/products/interior.aspx) but it was like $350. I can still get it but wasn't sure if it was worth it. Anyone have any suggestions? Or am I better off just leaving it alone

IMO, just make sure the product is safe for use on leather.

I use the turtle ice interior stuff that looks like goo and a little crotch guard on the middle seat panels works fine.

Where can I get this crotch guard? I hate it when my crotch gets violated. :)

Read this thread first then decide what to use... may want to reconsider the Scotch Guard approach.

Spray some of this on a microfiber cloth and wipe down the dash and door panels...
http://www.chemicalguys.com/Best_Interior_Vinyl_And_Plastic_Sprayable_Dressing _p/tvd_109.htm

Then use another microfiber cloth to wipe down all the hard leather (mine WAS worse, but this stuff softened up the leather. The first time takes a couple of passes.)

If you're in the Bay Area I bought the gallon jug and will give you a small bottle to try. I have too much!

For the leather I would pick up some Zanio Leather in a Bottle (http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Z-10&Category_Code=Zaino&Product_Count=14)

Personally, I think you are better off just wiping down the leather with a damp cloth. That's reeally all the maintenance it needs. Plus, when you put stuff on it it evaporates and sticks to your windows....nothing worse than scummy windows

I 100% agree. I used Mr. Clean Eraser last week on all the seats and then applied this stuff and the leather looks, feels, and smells fantastic!

First thing you need to realize is the type of leather we have and find a product that is made for that type of leather. I would suggest using LEXOL and nothing else just my opinion.

Thanks everyone. Looks like its a toss up between Lexol and Zanio's. I'll probably end up getting both!

Both are great I have one of each, I like that Lexol can be found at most auto parts store however Zaino is just an hour away from me if I ever need some. Zaino does make the interior smell like new.

I don't think many of the products mention will work on the 2010 suede seats. Sal Zaino said his stuff will not work in cleaning the suede inserts.

I don't think anyone has implied to use leather cleaner or conditioner on the suede...

Again, read the information that was posted recently in another thread about cleaning seats... and specific to your concern, this single post about the synthetic or "preferred suede" used on the Jeep.

If you don't feel comfortable with this information, the safest bet would be taking it to a professional detail shop.. one that's been around for awhile and has a good reputation.

It's not real Suede.....

A forum member brought up the question how to treat his SRT suede in another discussion area. Since a lot of us SRT8 snobs only check this area I thought I'd reprint my response:

SRT "Suede" is not real suede from cows but is "Preferred Suede" (which I'm sure the cows prefer). It's a man-made product from Milliken & Company. Here's a message I stole from another forum:

Recently I sent an e-mail inquiry to Milliken with regard to the proper care for the Preferred Suede
Seat areas of the Limited Leather Seats. The following is the word-for-word response that I received, all in caps:

WE DO NOT RECOMMEND APPLYING A FABRIC PROTECTANT TO PREFERRED SUEDE AS IT IS AN INHERENT CHARACTERISTIC.

AS FOR CLEANING, PREFERRED SUEDE IS A
100% MANMADE MICROFIBER PRODUCT SO NATURAL SUEDE PRODUCTS SHOULD BE AVOIDED.

BASIC INSTRUCTIONS ARE TO TREAT AS YOU WOULD ANY FINE FABRIC.

SPECIFIC CLEANING PROCEDURE:

BLOT EXCESS SPILLAGE USING AN ABSORBENT CLOTH.

USING WATER AND A MILD DETERGENT, CLEAN STAIN BY BLOTTING OR IN A GENTLE CIRCULAR MOTION UNTIL STAIN IS LIFTED.

RINSE SPARINGLY WITH FRESH WATER TO REMOVE ANY SOAPY RESIDUE.

ALLOW TO AIR DRY OR VACUUM EXTRACT.

AGAIN USE WATER SPARINGLY OR FOR BEST RESULTS, DRY CLEAN ACCORDING TO DIRECTIONS WITH "CAPTURE"(R) BY MILLIKEN, WHICH IS AVAILABLE AT HOME DEPOT, LOWE'S, ETC...

Remember that the Preferred Suede is already
treated with a protectant during the manufacturing process, so DO NOT APPLY ANY
FABRIC PROTECTANT such as SCOTCHGARD(R) which is not even recommended to be used on any type of Suede.

Good then A cow didn't have to die for my suede seat!!:p I'm thinking "Resolve" might work. It does a good job on carpets. Anyone want to test?

Mild Detergents - Hand Dish washing Liquid Detergent

Mild detergents have surfactants that dissolve dirt and grease; use in solution of warm to hot water to clean washable surfaces such as counter-tops, appliances, fixtures, floors.

* Caution: Safe for washable surfaces and skin. High-sudsing, so do not put much in the solution, and rinse all suds off thoroughly.

Thanks. I know some detergents can really be harsh. I may give Resolve a try when the time for cleaning is needed.
