: 1st day with nitrous......

hey guys,

This thing is bad to the bone with a 75hp wet shot!

Here is the breakdown on everything......
Stock with 752 miles, front air intake scoop mod, pass side brake duct mod,
170* t-stat, ice on intake, flat punching it, with ABS fuse out.
12.85@104.5 with a 1.79 60ft time. sea level track, 50* outside. 4-8-07.

today 4-29-07, 73* out same track, all the same stuff, except dual brake
scoop ducts routed to bottom intake silencer hole (done nicer) NGK iridium
plugs gapped at .042. and a wet 1999 Nitrous Works fuel injection set-up
75hp shot.....that was prolly rich due to the Jeeps having 58psi fuel pressure.

First pass, 12.36@109.0 with a 1.67 60ft. I had the button in my hand and
was hitting it the instant after launch and releasing it only during shifts.

The 2nd pass, I got greedy and try to hit it the instant I floored the truck on
the last yellow.......spun, and instantly shifted into 2nd, same off & on down
the track, and ran a dissappointing 12.80@108.5 with a 1.97 60ft.

..... on another note......I mainly just go to the track to make a few runs and
see what I can do, even in my Cobra.......I haven't really raced at the track
to race in over 3 years. With 2 young kids etc, I just don't like sitting at the
track 9-10 hours on a Sunday to get my 2 time runs and then attempt eliminations.
....these Jeeps are bad though, my lights today were .051 and .040, not even
trying. One day I am gonna stick it out and run the whole day. I don't like
hanging out there all day in the 80* plus weather sweating either. I guess I am
just getting old. (37 haha)

See below pictures of the SRT8 Jeep in it's natural habitat.

...and the Bazooka tube I put in the hatch to mess with everyone. The real
bottle is mounted in the pass side rear fender well. I taped it up so you
couldn't see hints of blue when looked at.

I don't really think I am going to do anymore to this thing, because it is my
only driver now, and it is a lease........haha. I hope no Chrysler Financial people
are browsing this board.

Im hoping your not pulling our legs with that Bazzoka bass tube that looks like a NOS tank!! And if so why not shoot a 125 shot, ive installed many Kits on these trucks and the 300s thay hold up just fine. FYI you should mount the tank with the bottom facing back never sidways. But sidways is ok on the bass tube!!!!!!!!!!

The car number on his time slip matches the number on his window....

I am sure he has nos. Or he is very clever!

it's straight up and down with the tube to the rear mounted up in the fender.

...I know about the sideways no-no. Alot of non racers mount bottles wrong.

thanks for the comments.

I may try a 100 shot with the fuel a little leaner next time, but I am not going
to race this every week, and have no real urgency to run it in 90* summer heat.

Do you recommend this to everyone who goes to the track or do you think zex has a good kit?

Nitrous brings its own cool/dense 02 to the party, so ambient air temp really doesn't mean nearly as much as when N/A or blown. Go ahead and run her next week. :D

Ok, Wow. I need details on the fender well mount. If you check over at the ****** boards, I am killing myself trying to think of a stealth install. Pics and details please.

..sorry guys, I thought I attached the up facing rear fender shot showing the
real bottle mounted. I must have forgot to post that one.

I will post tonight, all of the NOS pictures including the fuel line "mess" under
the hood. .....where the solenoids are hidden.

The Bazooka tube is just for looks and a big joke really, I need to hook it
up so it works. I should have gotten the smaller one though.

The 1 photo in my original post shows the rear from the outside and you can
see the bottle slightly hanging down, covered in black duct tape.

I almost always fabricate my own nitrous systems out of components.

Everybody over thinks nitrous and what you need. You don't need a $600+
system because it says it is made for such & such a vehicle.

I had this system on my wife's LT1 Firebird in 1999. Been boxed since 2001.

I have enough stuff now to piece another system together minus a few
fittings and some line. I always make my own dry shots. They can be done
and hidden for less than $200.

I'll post some more stuff tonight.

...also I realize nitrous "makes it's own weather" but you can't tell me that if
you run a 12.3 in the 75* heat, and race it the exact same way in 40* temps
it won't pick up? you know......

I got greedy on my 2nd pass and try to hit the button at the instant I floored
the Jeep and it spun and went right into 2nd. 12.8@108, w/1.94 60ft.
Best way so far (1 pass haha) is to floor truck, let it move, then hit button.
1.67 60ft felt awesome, I was getting my timeslip when the 14.6 95 Stang I
raced was crossing the finish line in his lane.......haha. Everybody at the track
was checking out my ride, it was cool. HEMI baby!

P.S. good spark plugs are key to safety with NOS also!

Interesting place to mount. Do you think there would be any issues with weather (rain/snow) or rocks or anything of the sort with a mount like that? How bout a bottle warmer, do you think you could use one in that spot? I really like this location, as long as it is safe. What size bottle are you using?

I wanted a 10lb bottle, i also wanted a 100 shot. I would also like to know more about your "Button". As that would be more efficient than just activating the N02 at WOT. Or, is there any other options, such as a delay in which the N02 doesnt come on untill a certain RPM?

If you cant tell, I am brand new in the No2 thing. I am a sponge on these boards and try to contribute where I can, but I am clueless when it comes to the juice.

....I am a sponge too, but the Jeep SRT8 "real" enthusiasts and motorheads
are few and far between, we are lucky to have this board.

It is a tight spot, seems pretty safe, and weather shouldn't be a big problem,
except your bottle won't be show quality. The warmer should work.

I am not hard core enough with this truck to go balls out and sweat every
little detail like I did with my "pleasure/race" only Cobra.

...meaning, if I am not getting 100% the full 75shot, and bottle temp isn't
perfect, I am not that worried about it, I don't want to hurt this daily
driver and I am not going to race it all the time, maybe once a month.

If you aren't worried about the bottle being hidden, mount it in the back, or
mount it in the back with a gym bag around it, that's always cool too.

My tech guy is just a hard ass, and has given me a hard time for 20 years...
that is part of the reason for the NOS looking speaker, and hidden system.

Any good fuel injection nitrous kit should work.

Do the iridium NGK plugs, not that hard to swap ,and like $110 total.

I have had nitrous on 5-6 vehicles and never had a problem, when used
properly. It's all in the overall tune. (not really computer tune)

Goodluck.

P.S. These Jeep run 58psi (per another member) so my set-up is prolly rich.
...and keep in mind, with a supercharger....if it's worth 100-110hp, it takes
about 30-40 to drive it, and is harder on the crank, then the much simpler
and much cheaper on demand nitrous set-ups. just my opinion.
I am going for the Hennesey 11.9 numbers in the fall!

Ok. Thanks again for the info. Stealth is key for me. Wife and clients cannot know I have the bottle. I also need all the room in the back for the dog. Are you using a 10lb bottle. When you get a chance I would love some detailed pics of how you mounted the bottle and ran the lines. Thanks again.

^hopefully this fender well mount will be the saving grace to us that have to keep mods on the down low. I hope to have as much of a sleeper as the jeep can be. With hidden bottle and lines, stock cat-back, headers, switches, intake and spacer. I think it should run low 12's with that setup, and no one will be able to tell it has anything but an intake.

...will post pics tonight.

Also pretty dam trick is the fact, I don't have any wires under the hood, that
you can see, or go into the fuse box etc.

I rigged mine, so wires run "hidden" inside along console on pass side.
I plug the power into the cig lighter, flick on the arming, and hold the
button in my right hand.

I didn't want it on a throttle switch, b/c I want to let of the juice in between
shifts.

Interesting. I would want something a little more permanant, but I think I really like the button idea. I am gonna have to do more research now.
