1) What would cause an 8 month old upper radiator hose on a '96 BMW 328i to split, 2 inches from one end to two inches from the other end, explosively from the looks of it?

2) Why would every retail autoparts store list a '96 BMW 328i upper radiator hose as a special order item, except Pep Boys?

3) Why would Pep Boys be the furthest autoparts store from my house, far enough so that I got there within minutes of them locking their doors for the evening?

Well, tell him I said thanks. At least Pep Boys hasn't started doing these mini-parts places like AutoZone, so small that they can't stock what they should stock.
