Guys,

I have an SRT8 as you know. However, I can not ignore the new M3's engine looks amazing. Take a look at the specs following this link :

http://www.worldcarfans.com/news.cfm/newsID/2070322.001/page/1/country/gcf/lang/eng/bmw/new-bmw-m3-v8-engine-in-detail

The US make some fantastic engines but the Germans...well amazing engineering - thats all I can say.

Cheers

First post brothers...been lurking awhile. Proud owner of a new '07 red rock. Had to make a comment. I thought about holding out for the new M3 instead of the jeep but changed my mind after a bit of thoughtful consideration mostly based on cost. I would imagine the new M3 will be in the 55 to 60K range in price if not more. There comes a point, at least with me anyway (as well as the wife) when enough is enough. I love BMW products i.e. have owned two of their motorcycles but I doubt I will want to pay what BMW has come to expect to be part of the club.

I've had 3 M cars to date, including an 04 M3.

There is no way I would spend $60k+ on the E92 M3, which it will cost after adding a few options and GG tax.

Granted, I'm sure it will be a great car.....but combined with a style I'm not in love with and the fact you have to get I-drive with the Nav system.

Pass.

Not sure about the US but here in the UK we get crucified when it comes to paying for US goods. You can get a US SRT8 for circa $42K but in the UK it costs £40K (or $80K). Similar picture for the rest of Europe.

Now the M3 will range from £40K ($80K) through to £50K ($100K) depending on options etc.

So in the UK the decision is down to the car you prefer (rather than cost).

3 for me too. Current 05 was a base of $47,300, and an MSRP of $59,095, before the $1000 GG tax. Similarly equipped on the new one is going to be high 60's to 70 without a doubt. Absolutely trouble free most fun car I've ever had in that price range. (Notice I did not say SUV/truck) :D I'll have no problem considering it when it arrives. US launch date of Sept., but no SMG's til Spring of 08.

Have you any experience with I-drive? Many diss it, but after spending a little time with it, no different to me then like navigating a computer. Partner has it, and it did not take me long to get used to it. No complaints.

Couple of guys on our Forum were actually just at BMW M in Germany for a hands on. They were quite impressed with many of the features. I'll know what I really think after I can actually crawl all over it and drive one later this year. No speculation here.

Oh yeah......Two totally different animals, but my Jeep is just as much fun, has been just as reliable, and I can't keep the BMW Svc Mgr out of it every time I just stop by to BS.

Yeah, my oldman has a 550i........so I've played around with it a bunch. Not a big fan and a friend of mine (who works for Microsoft) doesn't like it either.

I prefer buttons vs. one central controller.

Even if I got the new M3, I would consider the E90 coming out in 09? Not interested in the E92.

Will be interesting to see how it stacks up to the RS4 and the upcoming IS-F and C63 (or clk63).

I totally agree, my old man just got a new 750li. Very nice car, but that central controller was enough to make me never want a car like that. I almost felt like I needed to take a class to figure out how to operate it. It took me an hour to find the lock/unlock button. It is in the middle of the car where our climate buttons would be on the Jeep. Not for me....

You can have mine for $70,000!:D

Actually, I was in London a few years ago a remember thinking how cool a Corvette looked going by Harrod's... and I'm no Corvette guy. High-end American cars become borderline exotic in Europe.

You raise a good point about how lucky we are to have the prices we do in the States.

Cheers!

After owning an 06 M Roadster and 07 335i, I dont think I"ll be going back to BMW. Very well rounded cars but they lack a certain X-factor.

Saw the new M3 at my local dealer, lists at 70,000 with options. Still better off getting a 335ix with Dinan software.

I'll have to dissagree. After driving both cars for extended periods of time, the M3 clearly wins. Some claim that they like the 335 better for whatever reason but that's all bs. The M3 is superior in every way and that is why it's 70k. In the end, you get what you pay for.

The Z06 is a hell of a car but I am a BMW guy. I have had all of the 4 different M3's that BMW has made and I currently have an E30 M3, E36 M3, and E92 M3. I guess you could call me a fanatic.

I was at the BMW dealer last week checking out the new M3 coupe and 4-door, $70,000 loaded, The hood is amazing looking.

Then I went to the Benz dealer, Me personally...I would buy the Mercedes C63 AMG before the M3. They're taking orders for the AMG Benz, They told me delivery dates could be in late July.

Just my .02 cents

We will agree to disagree. Yesterday I got to drive the newM3 for about 20 minutes, and recently drove the 335 Dinan......Nothing like the sound of that V-8...and at higher RPM is has more, but down low, the 335 seems better. Nothing like the sound of those turbos and the savings of around 25K ....To each their own. All I know is I would not own a BMW past the warranty period. Alreayd have the wife thinking of what to repalce her 06 X5 4.4 with. Naturaully she likesa the M6 Convertable. She can keep dreaming.

all i got to say is that i hope it is a lot faster than it's predecesor, happened to come across one just yesterday...was a pretty cool show down actually, his M3 was all "whited" out (for lack of a better term. lol) was getting on the freeway, a long on ramp, when i noticed out of the corner of my eye, a whited out M3...must admit it looked nice, all white w/ cleared out light kit (8000k lows and fogs), limo tinted, etc etc. so anywho i noticed him hitting it as he went by. had two cars in front of me but managed to give myself enough space so that i could be full open by the time i reached the pont where i could merge onto the freeway. at this point he was about 60 yards ahead in the left lane (3 lane roadway) got along side of him when we were both goin 90. there as a car in the middle lane in front of me so i moved to the right and hit it at the same time he did, we were pretty close but i was pulling on him, we hit 120 and he shut down so i let up...again traffic got low so he hit it and couldnt manage pullin on me at all. lol once again a huge stretch, we both opened up from an 85mph "roll" and again pulling on hit to 120 when he let up....i kept er balls to the wall up to 145, as you can imagine he was way back there bt still tryin. lasted another 5 miles with us just messin around, he must have been shocked that a jeep was killin him.;)

Yeah the new M3 looks nice. I heard that the first one in my area went to the owner of the BMW dealer and he paid 70k-72k. And that's the owner. I don't know if that's what everyone will pay but it will get very pricey. Some kid just brought one back to school (Purdue) about a week ago. I have yet to race him but hopefully will get to sometime soon. I drive a Lexus ISF. I was surprised that the 335i and the M3 have the same amt of torque. Why wouldn't they beef up the torque more? My ISF has 371 ft/lbs and drives/sounds like a muscle car. Not too much of a gearhead but that doesn't make sense to me.

I read somewhere that it takes like 10 computer systems to keep that engine running.

I'm disappointed in that low torque number too.

ugghhh @ the IS-F. So disappointed in that car, Lexus could have made an amazing performer. That rediculous "SHIFT NOW" beep while driving it hard is terrible too. Not a passionate "drivers car" that it could have been.

I agree it could have been more of a track car like the M3. Having one as my daily driver though, they are just so easy to drive. Normal mode it drives like a Lexus, somewhat sluggish at times. But when I kick it into Sport mode: 0-60 in 4.3 (I think it's even faster than that) and hits 140 in the blink of an eye, and keeps pushing till about 170. And stil gets 16/23 mpg. You cant find many cars that can do that. I love it looks/performance/ease of use. The beeps are not even noticeable. I don't know why everyone is using a beep to discriminate against the ISF. If we listened to everything Tiff Needel says, I dont know what I'd be doing or driving.
