Quick question: I just got my '07 SRT8 yesterday and for the first time tried revving the engine up while warmed up. While in park or neutral the engine wouldn't rev past 4000 in either situation. Is that normal for our trucks? Otherwise the performance seems great, but that sort of threw me off a bit. The red line is way past that and it just seemed unusual. Comments please...

Yes it the rev limitor is set at 4000 because the worst thing you can you is rev an engine in neutural without a load on it.

Thanks guys, I was hoping it was something like that. Mcopare, you are Navy? My son is AS1 William Amann stationed in Norfolk, Va. He's 10 years in, so he's half way there. He also is the proud owner of a '09 Challenger SRT8.

I'm gonna leave well enough alone. There must be some reason it's there, and let's face it, there's no reason to over rev the engine anyways. I just thought it would have cut off closer to the 5000 or more level. I was just revving it up to hear the exhaust to determine whether or not it will stay or go for a better flowing one. Looking at the pipes they look like they are not stainless, so I won't hesitate to cut 'em off and replace with a nice cat back system you guys suggest.
