Read this article........for all you owners who think running 0-40 wt oil and 215 degree thermostats are because they "designed" them to run optimum.
I told some of you last year on the OC site all this light oil and high temp crap was due to emission standards.

Makes me laugh even harder at those who believe Amsoils claims of 25k miles per oil change.
If you're looking to save money on maintenance, don't. Even paying a dealer for $100 changes every 3k is cheap insurance compared to a R&R/rebuild.

with typical driving patterns, there's no need to change our oil every 3k miles - you're not hurting anything, but you're spending time/money you can use elsewhere.

Even Mobil 1 breaks down (if driven hard enough) in 3k or less miles, acids accumulate, and additives deteriorate. I don't baby anything I drive, and oil is dirt cheap insurance.
Also take into account that in the 4V camp we see a lot more oil getting cooked in the heads than with anything 2v. At the same time it's just not worth taking a risk with lesser oil or longer invtervals even in a 2v.

One thing that everyone is missing here is luke warm oil is just as bad or even worst than hot oil as far as sludge goes.I have taken alot of engines apart in the last 55 years and I know for a fact that cars that only go a few miles to work or whatever, and never come up to operating temps are the ones that really have sludge.I only live 2 1/2 miles from work, but I make sure that I drive around till my temps are up to normal.Thats a plus when I'm driving my GCRT8.Good Luck.
