: I really need help with the TCM issue!!! PLEASE!!!
06BLACKJGCSRT8 04-23-2007, 05:18 PM Okay, well I plan on taking my Jeep in this week to get the whole TCM issue resolved but I want to know exactly what to say and sound educated so the job gets done, and correctly. I have a 06 and I plan on asking for TSB# 21-020-06. Is this the same thing as what I have read on here as the "AH" revision? Or is that something seperate? Now I see there is an "AG" revision? Please help!
Can somebody plesae explain to me exactly what I need to do to get my 06 SRT8 to shift down when I floor it from a roll, enable the auto-shift while in autostick, and get rid of this terrible shift delay.
I am just so confused because I have read so many different things on here about the TCM problems and it seems alot of them are for the 07's. I would like to know what applys for the 06's and what apply's for the 07's when it comes to these updates. I just want an organized response so I can feel better! lol
Lastly, are the 07's faster than the 06's? Is a reflashed 06 the same as a 07? I am really curious about this!
O yea, and this is why I am being so OCD about this: I was next to my friend in his 99 Mustang GT with just exhaust mods and we were cruising next to each other, we slowed to about 20 then he honked his horn 3 times and we were off. I had the jeep in automatic and the traction control off (my jeep is stock too). Well, he killed me! I couldn't believe I was in the legendary Jeep SRT8 that is so praised on here because he just kept pulling away. But then we hit a light, and from a stop a demolished him so I felt a little better :D
Afterwards, we were talking and I was so pissed and embarassed about the whole "race from a roll" thing that I explained to him about the trans issue so I could rationalize a little bit. Now I am determined to fix it because that better never happen to me again!!!!!!
timster 04-23-2007, 05:53 PM when you race from a 20 MPH roll, best thing to do is manually shift the truck into 1st. The trans, even in manual mode, will upshift automatically at redline when you get the TCM flash

06BLACKJGCSRT8 04-24-2007, 05:37 PM Thanks for the info!
HoustonSRT-8 04-24-2007, 05:44 PM Tell the service department exactly what you just told us, that it will not downshift when it is supposed to.
Derwood98 04-24-2007, 07:48 PM I had my 07 in today for this issue and they said I had the latest software upgrade. Nothing they could do at this time.
HoustonSRT-8 04-24-2007, 07:53 PM There is no update for the '07s yet.
BuilderBill 04-24-2007, 10:10 PM There is no update for the '07s yet. Amazing isn't it that I have a new TCM with "AG" that arrived and that Chrysler is still on like "AD" or so with the Starscan. Friday I will post what the new "AG" TCM does. Hope it is not like the PCM that I had updated that now won't downshift from 3rd to 1st at 25 mph.
I sent the SRT engineers a note (referring back to their original note to me regarding the "AH" revised '07 TCM) asking them what is going on. Why was I written one thing and now on their chats they are saying another?
Just for this experiment (new PCM & TCM installed) I am spending around $ 600 that really should be spent on something else.
Is it any wonder that I am spending the money to have my almost completed 426 stroker sent across the country to have disassembled to remove the poorly engineered "reluctor wheel" on the crankshaft so that I can completely bypass the junk electronics in our '07's?
Yes, I will figure the electronics out, mainly by scrapping our existing setup and starting over. Pretty sad.
Bill
BTW "06blackjgcsrt8" I believe that there is NO difference on the dragstrip between the '06 & '07. Blackstallion with his '06 stocker is at least as quick as ANY stock '07, if not a hair quicker. We have raced at Rockingham MANY times together.

You get a ton of my respect builderbill for doing all these mods and adjustments. Things that i don't see DC or vendors doing. I think we all share the common feeling that these srt8's have an enormous amount of potential that was never fully utilized from the factory & that the current support from a barely standing DC, right now is holding us all back.

Yeah, that's pretty awful.
NitroCrzy 05-08-2007, 12:28 AM I'm at the dealer right now the starscan shows : 'AK' as the latest. Is this right?
NitroCrzy 05-08-2007, 02:38 AM Well that trip was a bit more productive than the last time I was to the Dealer. I sat with the tech as he checked with StarScan which updates were available. It's amazing what all is there. I wonder if one can pick up a starscan device and use it to program... :D
I even managed to talk them into disabling the speed chirp warning buzzer. Apparently, this is a region specific setting. I told them to change it to US region... but instead they changed it to all others.
About the shifting TSB..... I really can't tell any noticeable difference. I sure hope it does but the little testing I did .... nada... nothing.....

Nitro,
You can pick up a StarScan. A guy on the other site bought one for I believe $ 4,600.

What year JGC do you have?
Bill
NitroCrzy 05-08-2007, 06:35 AM You always catch me out on the year... it's a 06' blue steel export edition I purchased here locally.

Question was asked because on the '07 TCM flash, the difference I noticed was that now it shifts from 1-2 at 5800 rpm instead of at 6000 rpm.
NitroCrzy 05-08-2007, 01:56 PM I had read that too. Mine did shift pretty rough from 1-2 and it absolutely refused to shift down after going WOT. I doubt I will see a big difference until I can get to the track. The only difference I can see right now is the darn speed chirp dealie doesn't come on when I hit 120kph :D
I'm very tempted to buy a StarScan tool. I know I could probably help a lot of people here. I would hate to spend that much on it if it doesn't allow me to tweak settings other than what I can convince the dealer into doing. Is owning one of these babies the key to breaking the code barrier on the computer or am I going to be limited as to what I can do?

Nitro,
I would hold on the StarScan if you are looking to tweak settings. The dealers can NOT do that with the StarScan.
Within a month or two, I hope to have my supercharged stroker up and running that will have a totally user programmable through a piggyback module that plugs into the PCM.
The bad news is with the version that I am using, the crankshaft will need to be removed to replace the crankshaft tone wheel. Great if you are looking at changing to a stroker or forged bottom end, bad if you want to do it in your driveway!

NitroCrzy 05-09-2007, 02:46 PM I've been following your notes pretty closely. I sure wish EXTM would show back up. I've been dying to hear about how his project is going. A friend of mine raced him and was totally stunned let alone blown away. He has a charger.
Please continue to keep us posted. I'd love to help test rear ends and stuff .. but getting parts over here is really a challenge.

Nitro,
I bet the price of fast shipping could actually match the price of the part. Especially like the shipping weight of my new engine @ 690lbs.
This will be an exiting year for all of us with the mods going on. The info should be good for years to come also.
It is tough to find manufacturers that will tool up for our tiny volumes.

NitroCrzy 05-10-2007, 03:05 PM There sure have been a lot of SRT8's sold here in Saudi and the rest of the Middle East. It would sure be nice if someone here would pick up the ball and run with it.
