: Doors whistle at high speed cruising?
Rocky 03-14-2010, 09:50 PM Here in Nebraska our interstate speed limit is 75 mph. I've noticed that any time I'm cruising above 70 mph and there's any crosswind, the door frame loses contact with seal, and air whistles in.
Is this a typical issue with our Jeeps? What can be done to control it?
BOYCHIKS 03-14-2010, 09:53 PM It is typically common for us.
Some say it is the doors, windshield, sun roof, ect... But 8 out of 10 people say that whistle sound is there at those speeds.
pjs1965 03-14-2010, 10:35 PM Yup - same here.
SRT8-KSA 03-14-2010, 10:44 PM Nothing to worry about, Mostly a common thing for all of us.
I hear the same thing when im over 75, not very loud or annoying though.

Mine has whistled since day 1!
Knuckles 03-15-2010, 01:25 AM Never checked mine as I am always on the phone or blasting the radio. Just turn up the radio or get a Borla Type S exhaust:D
JohnsonSRT8 03-15-2010, 01:27 AM Mine didnt start doing it till about 10K now have 45K, and its gotten worse and worse. Its no longer a whistle but a thumping wind noise annoying as fck. You can go to a body shop and have them adjust your door latch and/or hinges so it closes in tighter to the frame. Going to have it done this wk, will let you guys know what happens.

Yeah, please me know what you find. Mine howls pretty loudly.
We have 75 mph limits in various places in Colorado too. I was out Saturday cruising on one of them and it was quiet as could be. But mine's like new, 1500 miles or so. Something else to look forward too I guess... :(
Has anyone tried either replacing or dressing the weatherstripping? I know you can get adhesive backed foam strips. Perhaps applying some to the existing strip or body surface would take up the gaps and not look too bad.
Reminds me of stuffing paper or matchbooks under the lock of the old school vent windows. Those always started to whistle.
wink
SRT-King 03-15-2010, 02:25 PM My exhaust is too loud to hear it ;)
bigwil 03-16-2010, 11:20 PM I've had the same problem on several cars, with good, in-tact seals, including my Jeep.
What I do is roll the window all the way down, open the door, take off a shoe, put my foot on the bottom window seal, grab the top of the door with both hands, and pull the top of the door to me while bracing the lower window sill with my foot so as to ever so slightly bend the door.
I know its kinda "caveman", but it works. Just don't overdo it.
toothmechanic 03-17-2010, 12:52 AM Me too... Definitely has to be the weather stripping. Needs to be thicker, or bend the door??? Does that really work? Can't emagine trying to bend the door like that, but will do if it works.
6.1_Toboggan 03-17-2010, 01:00 AM random thought, has anyone who has done the dynamat or like noticed any improvement in the wind noise?
eddiefig 03-17-2010, 05:51 AM I can hear a whistle if I have the AC/Heater blower on high and I stand outside. Its coming from the chrome door molding. I guess I have to take it off and throw some double sided tape on it.
Primopup 03-17-2010, 06:00 AM Anything over 80, it whistles....
