Since i'm not cool with paying $110 for an oil change from the dealer i've decided to do it myself. I've changed oil in many vehicles but typically there is always some little details regarding each vehicle you learn after doing it a few times.
So. I have a set of ramps. I am going to get oil and a filter. Anything else i need? Is the filter in a reachable location? How much oil to you guys typically use and what weight. I know the manufacturer states 0-40 but does anyone use something different?
Any tips are appreciated. Thanks.

Filter is easy to get to. 6.5-7qts of 0w-40 Mobil 1 is what I use.
You can save some money if you pick up oil and filter at the auto parts stores that often have 5qts of Mobil 1 and an oil filter for $29.99.

nothing special about it. 13mm socket or wrench for the drain plug. i use a multi size filter socket attached to a 6" extension connected to a breaker bar. then just be ready for clean up as it's designed to flow down a spout, but it will always get a little in the surrounding area.

Think I read on an earlier post, there is a rubber washer on the drain plug that you will want to replace each oil change.

i've never done that on any of my 3 jeeps. some cars do suggest changing the rubber ring or washer each time. unless i can see damage i never replace them and i've never had an issue in 16 years of doing my own oil changes.

Thanks. I stopped at pep boys today and they had a special i couldn't believe.
5 quarts of Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 filter for $29.99. Great deal.
I have a few more quarts at home so i'm good to go. As soon as it stops raining i'll get on it.
Thanks again.

The 6.1 Engines are slow draining, let it drain for a good 1/2 Hour.

warm the engine up. Makes the oil come out a lot faster. Granted, don't get it too hot or you will burn your fingers when pulling the plug. Get a filter wrench that hooks on a socket. Get some rhino ramps. You will save yourself a ton over the years doing it yourself. Since I have 4 cars a scooter and 2 jet ski's I need to change the oil myself. I would go broke otherwise lol.

This is probably one of the easiest vehicles I have changed oil on. Nothing special about it, just need a jack, wrench, 7qts of oil, and a filter, o and a jack stand.
Always use jackstands. Ever since I saw Faces of Death....You need to check that out if you havent seen it. The car falls on some dudes leg and gets cut off, he ended up dying. sucks

$110 is rather steep. I think when I change srt8's oil here at work its about $80.
