: Service 4wd light came on today
Se7en 04-22-2007, 04:36 PM Along with the ESP lights, etc.
I turned the car off and back on, and the lights went away. 10 miles later, they were on again.
I've done a search to see all similar posts but it doesn't seem that anything conclusive surfaced.
Anyone?
Thx!
Inferno SRT8 04-22-2007, 04:37 PM Are you getting the ESP/BAS ABS lights all on at the same time?

No ABS, but ESP/BAS and Service 4wd yes.

All 4 tires have wheel sensors on them, you may have a failed sensor or 1 that is out of range at a certain speed.

Thanks Inferno.
About a month ago, on my way back from LA I had a wheel sensor error, which went away after a few miles (for good) but perhaps they're related...

I guarantee its related, pull 1 of the 4 wheel sensor connectors and you will get the same errors pop up on your dashboard.

I had the exact same problem, they need to check your rear diff it might be the actuator. Thats what went out on mine and after they replaced it - no problems.

Or this, its a handful of things it can be, hopefully you have a good dealership service dept.
Just dont take it to Westbury in NY. :D

We'll soon find out. I have yet to take my jeep in for service. In fact I was going to take it to SF Jeep the other day until I read that nightmare post about another member getting into an accident while test driving an SRT there (saleman was driving).
I need to get my tailpipes realligned. It's not bad enough that they were slightly off when I bought it but the right side seems to be getting lower every week  Now the right side is almost a full 1" lower than the left. If they cannot re-allign it, then they can replace it as far as I'm concerned. Also, my brakes have gotten to the point where people squint and recoil when I come to a light.
Woohoo 5000 miles with DCX baby!
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my Jeep, but the things I can see that are just "WRONG" give me great fear for all of the things that I cannot see.
Mango 04-23-2007, 05:19 AM Mine did the same thing, along with a few other wacky errors, and it turned out to be a bad "shifter module" and TCM.
They replaced the entire shifter assembly in my center console.
Se7en 04-28-2007, 10:56 AM Sorry for bringing this back up. Since my original post, I had to go to the UK on business (all last week, returning yesterday).
Sure enough on the way home from the airport the service 4wd light came on (as expected), and then the CEL came on (stayed on) so I went straight to SF Jeep to make an appointment (1st appt available May 6th). After I left the dealership, the vehicle started to lurch and the charging light came on. This behavior only lasted for a couple of seconds before returning to "normal".
In any event I will drop the car off at a different dealership (where I bought it) on Monday AM (screw the appointment).
Any additional thoughts you guys might have are appreciated.
Thanks!
Se7en 04-30-2007, 06:30 PM So, I dropped the truck off today at the service dept of the dealership where I bought my Jeep.
They just called me and said the following:
There were no open codes and any issues that I might have were the result of previous codes going off prior to my "ABS recall". Keep in mind this is for CEL, Service 4WD lights. I expressed that if they actually drove the vehicle that the service 4wd lights would come on in 10 minutes. To that they said they would need another day with the vehicle.
They said that they considered the exhaust issue normal and is "heat related". To that I questioned why both sides weren't sagging then.
Regarding the squealing brakes, they said that my rotors showed signs of heat warp but it was due to the fact that I live in SF and drive primarily in stop and go traffic.

OurZoo 05-01-2007, 08:30 AM Sounds like SF jeep sucks (appointment 1 week away) as well as the place you took her (full of excuses). Go elsewhere!
Se7en 05-01-2007, 04:53 PM So, they were able to reproduce the Service 4WD code and attributed to a sticking brake switch? New part should be in tomorrow.
Also, they agreed to replace the rear section of the exhaust including the resonator. :)
They asked me to bring the vehicle in if the brake squeal continued or got worse (no chance of that  ).
So, half the battle...
