Like SilveRT8 over on the OC site...I just installed the Michelin Diamaris tires......same size and tire used on the BMW 4.8 M Series SUV. Tire Rack gives them a great rating.....and other than the Continentals are the only non run flat close to our size. They are 275/40/20 in front and 315/35/20 out back. The rears look huge:eek: ......but what a difference in ride quality:D . They are slightly shorter and three (3) lbs lighter per tire. It is immediately apparent that over 50% of the road noise is gone.....the ride is far more comfortable and it no longer gets pulled every which way by the road.....even during hard acceleration. Road bumps or even the road reflectors are hardly felt!
They are slightly shorter and according the SilveRT8 he calculated that it lowers the gearing from 3.73 to 3.76. They make the truck look lower... have a rim protector and do not sit square shouldered as the Goodyears but rather have rounded shoulders much like a performance car tire.
SilveRT8 reported traction problems at the track up in Canada last week and seems to have lost 2/10's. However I tried several times with the factory traction switch to get them to spin but they seemed to hook up right away.....it could be different once at the track......none the less I was sick of the Goodyears, and the rough.....throw you around in the seat feel they provided. The truck feels like it is new again and the smoother ride with no tossing and jarring, and lack of road noise is actually refreshing and has given me a new perspective on now keeping it longer.

How much you pick them up for Steve? Did you find a dealer that had them in stock or did you have to order them and wait a couple of days. How about posting some pics from the rear. Don't get any wise ideas either! :D

They were about $1300 tax out the door.......seriously the stock Goodyears are horrendous in comparison in regard to road noise and handling.....my 10 year old son immediately as we are leaving says...."wow dad, the Jeep feels so smooth"...he was reading my mind.
Like I said the first time I get a flat I might roll my eyes but thats why I have AAA and a FlatRides kit from Sears.
I'll try to post some pictures tomorrow or Monday.......Claude posted some at the OC but they dont do the tires justice.

Looking forward to pics. Any idea if they come in a 295 or 305 for the rear?

I saw the ones on the other site, but was hoping for some better shots. I always thought the Beemer looked mean with those wheels so I'm thinking your baby must look eeemazing. I have AAA as well with something like 100 miles free towing soooo I'd have no problem switching from the run flats as soon as I've burned most of the rubber on the stockers.

I did research at the Tire Rack site.....then went to the manufacturers site.....the Michelins and Continentals are the only manufacturers that make tires close to our size and will fit our rims WITHOUT going taller which totally takes away from the looks of the vehicle. The tires are also highly rated when it comes to traction wet and dry and the all important road noise and comfort rating. I really think the Goodyears are just plain awful and other than the run flat feature are the wrong tire for an already stiff riding vehicle.
Back when I had the CTS-V many of us dumped the EMT's for regular tires for the same reasons discussed above. Of course, we struggled with the idea of a flat, given there was no spare as well.
A lot of people ending up buying the Corvette Z06 inflator/patch kit. It's like $500 but is supposed to get you fixed up. It contains some goo and a compressor. http://www.westcoastcorvette.com/pc-338-53-corvette-z06-tire-inflator-kit.aspx
Saving the $500, I just freeballed it and hoped for the best...

Anyone think that because of the extra width/bulge the actual contact patch of the 315 Michelins is actually smaller, thereby hurting straightline acceleration? Steve can you snap some close ups?
Thanks

I'm thinking the same thing.
I do not feel the Goodyears are "aweful" at all, in fact they are an excellent tire.
Cracks me up how once someone "mods" something, that the replacement item or peice suddenly becomes JUNK!
I'm guessing that the SRT Engineers would use what they felt was the best possible all around tire. Sure, if you are going to do hardcore specific track use, swap out to a stickier tire. However, the Goodyears are already a GREAT tire.
I, for one, will not be taking the risk of running a non-emt tire on our trucks. The rims are simply far too expensive to risk damage.
